My husband has severe rheumatoid arthritis and requires 24 pain management. We felt there were too many ups and downs with the 50 mcg fentanyl patch and asked for something new. Pain Management Dr. (PMD) changed him to MS Contin 15 mg. He was in bed for 4 solid days, was taking 4-6 percocet per day for breakthrough and was anorexic and irritable. He changed him to Opana ER 15. Can anyone explain how that might be more effective for him??? Thanks! ## Percocet is adding a lot of acetominiphine (sp?) That may end up hurting his stomach. My Dr. took me off Percocet and put me on oxycodone IR and Opana er. The Opana is 30mg. This works well for me. ## Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone, which is a very potent narcotic. My 7 doctors agreed that I would have to be on pain meds the rest of my life after a auto accident in 1981, after more than 50 surgeries I was put on disability until I found a old doctor who help put back to the point I had a union of both bones mid shaft of Tibia & Fibula, plus 7 crushed disk, right rotator cuff that pops out & many other injuries. From 1981 until 1990 I was on just about ever form of pain meds the doctors said I needed. I was nuts by then, this was all military & VA doctors. I moved back home where I went searching for a good doctor that serve my home town as I live in the country. He sent me to many doctors & on Jan 2,2000 the team after test said no more T4, or any other medication but morphine sulfate, starting out with 15 mg er 3 x a day & as ... ...

Does the Opana IR come in 15 mg tabs? ## Hi Lynn, From what I could gather, Opana "ER" tablets are the only ones that come in 15mg dosage forms. The immediate release ones appear to be in 5mg and 10mg increments, respectively. I don't know if other brands outside of the US carry it in different dosages, but it sounds like three 5mg tablets would be your best bet for reaching the intended dosage. I'd just be sure to talk with your doctor about proper dosing protocols before moving forward with it. I hope this helps! ...

My Dr has given me the option to switch from Opana ER 45mg to msCottin ER! How many MG of MSCottin ER will it take to equale the Opana ER 45mg?? ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? Opana is actually much stronger than Morphine, so you'd need 135mgs of the MS Contin to equal each 45mgs of the Opana. That's quite a lot to take. Is the Opana no longer working for you? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Oxycontin or Fentanyl might be better options. ## Thank you for the information. It's helped a lot! I am switching medications because of several different stomach problems I have. do opana 40mg pills ever expire

How long is opana 40 mg shelf life? ## Hi mike, According to the thread linked below, the shelf life of Opana is 3 years: /Discuss/Opana-ER-Shelf-Life-225768.htm However a Harvard Medical School family health article states that, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But the question is whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the study... (I have not seen the list of drugs ... ...

What Is The Difference In Opana And Morphine

just wanted to know if there is a difference between the 2. I am perscribed morphine sulfate er 15 mg twice daily. My neck has been operated on a few times so i have severe pain daily. I forgot my pills at home over the weekend. My mother is perscribed Opana 10mg. She gave me one and it seemed to work better. Wanted to know if there is a difference between the 2. I am not sure how to go about asking my dr to switch me. Don't want her to freak about my mom giving me one of hers... ## Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone and it is actually stronger than Morphine. Opana/Morphine Equivalency

I have been on 15 mg opana er for 2 years. My appointment is in two hours to be put on morphine. They want to put me on 15 mg of that as well. I have a brain disease and suffer from chronic headaches and severe eye pressure. Is this even close to providing the same relief? And I also have epilepsy and if I go through withdrawals I can start to have seizures. How much morphine would it take to equal the 15 mg of opana ER? ## From what I've been reading Opana is fixing to be removed by the FDA because of abuse. Oxymorphone was around in the 1970's and was removed because of abuse. Although it remained in hospitals in inj. form since then and through today. I asked my pain management doctor about what I read about the FDA going to pull Opana and he said that it's more than like... ...

is 15 mg morphine stronger than oxycodone

My pain specialist had me on 40 mg Opana ER and 15 mg Morphine Sulfate IR for 8 years. I had to find another doctor and starting next week I will be taking 30 mg Oxymorphone ER every 12 hours and 10 mg Oxycodone IR up to 3 per day. I have been out of my break thru pain med for 2 days now and my pain level averages 9 to 10 every day so I have taken 5 mg valium, Tylenol #3 with codine and a baclofen to stop me from going into withdrawal. What else can I do until my insurance co. gives their OK, ## Re: "Is morphine stronger than oxycodone" - I feel that answers to this question may be highly opinionated according to each individual as well as several underlying factors, including but not limited to: the binders/fillers in each respective tablet that may affect bioavailability; gene... ...

I have been taking ms contin 15 mg twice a day for a few months and raking it about 4 or 5 times a day the last 4 days since i ran out of my norco.my pain dr switched me to opana er 10mg every 12 hours and By some miracle i got it filled today i just wondered if i will have withdrawal from the ms contin even though im still taking the norco and opana. I know before my dr told me if i was still taking opiates i would not get any withdrawals but i ran out kf norco before and had only a little ms contin and had a horrible headache and a little stomach ache so i am sure that is not true i am just afraid as i will be travelling in the next 2 days to visit sick relative. ## No, you shouldn't suffer withdrawals with this dosage, because your doctor has actually raised it. Endo expects to finish converting patients to the new formulation of Opana ER in 2Q12. Generics/Patent: The patent on Opana ER has been challenged by many companies, namely, Sandoz (Novartis), Impax Laboratories, Teva, Watson, Actavis, Roxane Laboratories and Ranbaxy. The company has settled all disputes apart from the one associated with Ranbaxy which Endo has decided not to challenge. Consequently, Ranbaxy can sell the generic versions of Opana ER from September 9, 2013. Following the settlements with all other challengers, they have agreed not to challenge patents relating to Opana ER. Actavis launched the generic version of non-tamper resistant formulation of Opana ER (7.5 and 15 mg dosages) on July 15, 2011. Impax can sell generic versions of Opana ER from January 1, 2013. I am on 40mg of Opana and 15 mg ir morphine for 3 ruptured discs. . When I take the morphine it makes me tired. Is there an IR that will not make me groggy? ## Hello, Steven! How are you? Drowsiness is a possible side effect of all narcotics, it's really just a matter of trial an error to find one that works for you, without making you sleepy. Morphine did the same thing to me, when I was on it, I could barely ever stay awake. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Any thoughts ## Hello, Filly! How are you? You shouldn't make such a switch, without your doctor's approval. Each 8mg of Dilaudid is equal to 10.67mgs of the Opana. Both of these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.
