I am taking olmesartan + metoprolol 50 in the morning and amlodipine + hydrochlorthiazide 5/12.5 in the evening. Despite that, whenever I eat a high sodium diet my bp becomes very high (170/90). I was advised to take met xl t (telmisarta) instead as olmesartan causes me side effects. Please advise. ## Well, it would seem that you are sodium sensitive and are always going to have to watch your sodium intake, according to NIH studies. As to the medications, Met Xl contains a time released formulation of Metoprolol, not Telmisartan. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.
