Old Morphine

i have a bottle of ten year old morphine and i was wondering if it would be dangerous to take them.... ## Morphine doesn't get dangerous, when it's expired, but it does lose effectiveness and, after 10 years, I doubt there is much potency left to treat pain and do much of anything. This is a narcotic, so in case there is some potency left, you also shouldn't try taking more to get the same effect, because you could run the risk of overdose. Side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Have old ampoules of morphine as a powder with a cork at both ends. Can anybody throw some light on its age and history? ## Without a visual reference it would be difficult to estimate the age and or condition. ## I filled ...

This is the highest dosage unit of immediate release morphine made anywhere, just the one brand, VERMOR-60 by Verve Healthcare. I take them simply because they are much cheaper than any other morphine sulphate I have ever come across, and I need three 'rescue' doses of an opioid analgesic daily since my Oxycontin 120mg tablets seem to last only 6 hours, and not the twelve claimed on the box... Has anybody noticed that the new caplet shaped tabs are subjectively stronger than the old round ones? ## Just as a wee addition to my original post - SEVREDOL is the 'Gold Standard' & most-dispensed brand of IR morphine, being found in most countries (as will be evident to those who use IOPs to acquire medication), & are made in green 50mg, pink 20mg and turquoise 10mg tab...

Is morphine known to have a speedy effect on some people? ## From my records Morphine does not have the same effect as speed. Morphine acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain, particularly at the synapses of the nucleus accumbens. To learn more click on the link below... Do you have any more questions or information to add? Please post back if you do. ## I find the same thing. If I have morphine I'm up & about cleaning etc & not sleeping (unless i have too much...). It might be worth mentioning here how addictive morph is- be careful bc this could be a sign that you are getting addicted! ## what you may term speedy, is not, its the effect that the medication suppose to bring you back to your old self before there was pain, there s are instances wher...

taking morphine 15 mg S A. Have been on hydrocodone 10/325APAP, and oxycodone 10/325APAP. Don't seem to be getting any relief from the morphine. Is this just a transitition, or could there be an issue here ? ## Have you consulted your doctor? It could really be either that the dose of the Morphine isn't high enough to handle your pain, or some withdrawal/rebound effects from switching medications and there is also a possibility that it's a combination of both. ## I feel that I am not getting the relief I used to get from my medication. For the past 5 years I have been taking 6 norcos 10/325 and beginning 2 years ago I began to take 2 Oycontin 40 mg per day. My doctor is very difficult to talk to about increasing my dosage. What can I do? ## I SEE THIS IS AN OLD POST, BUT IT ...

My 28 yr old son is on day 4 following a tonsillectomy. He was originally prescribed 5 mg oxycodone every three hours and 15mg extended release morphine every 12 hours. The oxy was only providing relief for 2 hours, so doctor prescribed two dilaudid (2mg), every 3 hrs, in place of oxy. He got a horrible headache after taking the dilaided, so he returned to the oxy. My question is: should he discontinue time release morphine as he is very concerned about his headache returning from the morphine. Thanking you in advance. ## Hello, Beth! How is he doing? If the Morphine hadn't caused headaches before, why does he think it would start doing so? I'm not quite sure that I'm understanding your question. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! I have several 15 mg tablets of MS Contin. They are 4+ years old. What is the shelf life of this medication? ## From what others have stated, Morphine has an expected shelf life of 2 years. However, there's actually a lot of conflicting information out there around the topic of expired medication. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But t...

Recently after losing a family member (to the same painful disease me and my brother have) I found this package of really old vials of Morphine Sulfate, 10mg in a closet. I don't know when they expired as they have no date. But they look really old and are slightly yellowish. They were made by Wyeth to be injected using a device called a Tubex. The plastic wrapped package has 4 sealed glass vials with the needles and rubber stopper attached. My question is if really old morphine is dangerous or painful to use? I know it probably won't do anything, but I figured on a bad day why not try. I was going to try one vial IM to be safe.

I do hope that you've been able to cope well without compromising your own health & well-being in the process. Although I can only imagine what it must've been like hearing that sort of news. :/ Have you spoke with any of the nurses there regarding the amount of Morphine he was given?

I'm coming thru a reduction of morphine SR 100mg down to 60mg. This has been hell as ive never ever known before. Im wondering if I can try and reduce further by 10mg at a time over the next 5 years? I am so afraid now that as I become older and not able to control the situation that some Dr will come into the picture and just reduce me as this last Dr has done. I was on 100mg for 25years for chronic back pain. I still have the back pain but finding not as bad as it was in the first 10 years following injury. I know I cant get through the PAWS again. Does liquid morphine come in a blue color? ## Colors actually mean nothing, it is entirely up to the manufacturer and what they wish to make it look like. So, it is highly possible that it could be blue, clear or any other color. Why do you ask? Etoshine contains the active ingredient Etoricoxib, this is a COX-2 Selective Inhibitor, used to treat pain and inflammation. ## The liquid morphine I have is yellow in color. Is this really morphine? ## Does it come in purple liquid? ## What color is the 100 mg liquid morphine made by a company called Lanette? I have an old bottle I found in a house I just moved into.

For over 10 years, I took 820 mg. morphine sulfate ER daily to manage chronic pain, trigeminal neuralgy and osteomyelitis in my jaw...(yes, I know that is spelled wrong, but don't want to take the time to look it up right now) Anyhow, about 1 1/2 years ago I started tapering myself off of it, one, because of the costs...astronomical, ridiculous, really..and for the last 6 months or so have been taking either 15/30 mg. regular release morphine every 4 hours. When I called my doctor to get an appt. for refills, the soonest appt. is 17 days away and I've only got about 1 week of medication left. I still have 200 mg. ER morphine left, but I don't want to accidentally overdose...do I still have a higher tolerance from being on it for so many years? ## Old mom The best and safest ...

Hey guys found blue and clear capsules in old bottle, no imprint on cap say they are 10mg ir (codrx)? morphine. Orange powder not beads? I've never seen these are these for real pure morphine? ## Hello, Jim! How are you? If they are very old and have no markings, there's really no way to know, unless you'd pay to have them lab tested. There was time that medications weren't regulated as strictly, so they weren't required to have markings. Additionally, even if they were newer than that, if they were done by a compounding pharmacy, they wouldn't have markings, since they usually use unmarked capsules. The FDA classifies Morphine as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsin...

But yes, they are often prescribed together for those that are experiencing intractable pain from a possibly fatal condition, and both FDA and NIH studies have not found them to hasten death, in such cases, they just help the person be more comfortable in their final days. However, they do warn that if someone survives such conditions, they do carry the risk of being habit forming. My husband is 71 years old, and has suffered from chronic pain for 11 years. What are the long term effects of taking morphine? ## Hello, Charlie! How are you and your husband? Morphine is a narcotic opiate, so long-term use can lead to physical dependence and if he suddenly stopped it he may experience withdrawal symptoms, which according to the FDA may include restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting and cold flashes. Is she showing any unusual side effects?

why do the green make so sick when the red older pills didn't ## Have you consulted your doctor about this? There are several different things that could be causing it. If you've been taking it for a long time, you may have suffered some stomach damage that's causing it. There can be slight variations in generics, so you might be getting more of the medication than you were used to getting. Or, there could be different fillers and, while they are considered inactive, some people are sensitive to them. ## COMPARE WHAT I WAS ON "HYDROCODONE 10/500" 4 X'S A DAY TO WHAT I TAKE NOW. This will probably sound like a silly question, but can you confirm that the old Ranbaxy pills were not expired? If they had worked well for you in the past but are not helping now, that would be my first guess. Also, may I ask what mg dose your tablets are, and what is the previous brand that gave you good results? There are probably at least half a dozen manufactures for the extended release morphine generics. I expect most to be comparable to one another, but there are anecdotal stories of certain variance...
