I have been on high doses of Neurotin for years after reading on another site that it helps greatly with opiate withdrawals. I take extremely high doses of Oxycodone and found when/if I ran out, I thought I was actually going to die. I have recently stopped taking Neurotin because the last three times I took it I actually didn't know my own name, was extremely abusive/harmful to my family and couldn't remember my actions regardless of how badly I had hurt someone!!! When I reported these actions to my GP and Pain Mgmt. Doctors, they both said they had NEVER heard of ANYONE having those kinds of side effects!!! This was very irritating because it says in the list of side effects to stop taking it if your personality changes. It got so bad I broke my husbands arm!!! Please, if any...

Okay, I am a recovering drug addict. I was on Oxycontin and Methadone and Lorazapam. I was taking all of that for about six years and then decided to quit cold turkey. I went through horrible withdrawals in my room by myself for about two weeks. Now I have been on Neurotin for six years and I have to come off of it b/c I have lost insurance. I take up to 3400mg a day. How do I come off of this? And how bad are the withdrawals going to be? If you know, is it as bad as coming off opiates because that was pure hell! ## Hello, Layla! How are you? Neurontin as actually an anticonvulsant, so while it isn't addictive like a narcotic, a sudden withdrawal could cause some severe mood swings, depression and creates the risk of seizures, so it needs to be tapered very slowly. The modern prefer...

Started taking Bystolic 5 mg 5 weeks ago, heart date is down to 51 BPM, also put on neurotin for nerve tingling not from diabeties, started at 100mg now at 300 mg. experiencing severe depression and suicidal thoughts. I realize it's the meds. How do I reduce them without causing more serious side effects. The neurotin did not help the tingling pain, but relieved arthritic knee pain, and although my bp is down my heart rate is so low I am unable to walk uphill without shortness of breathe. Is it okay to just reduce the dosage for a few days? ## Wow! Yes, it seems that they are both causing problems. The Neurontin works on brain chemicals, so along with being an anticonvulsant that helps with nerve pain, it is also sometimes used to treat mood disorders. Learn more Neurontin details h...

I have been taken neurotin for about a year for nerve pain. It allowed me to function and work . I recently had a spinal fusion because of the pain worsening. the dr told ne the pain would instantly go away which it did for 2 weeksw but then the pain came back. so I started taking the neurotin again. I am worried about long term use . Alot of my friends say it has bad side effects and long term use is bad for the heart. Has any one heard of any thing about long term use of this neurotin. If surgery did not work I guess i will have to coninue this drug long term in order to have a better quality of life. by the way Itake 300mg 2 times aday which is a low dose and controls the pain mostly ## i had an elbow relacement last year in december. after surgery i had nerve damage in my hand, i ha...

I have been taking neurotin for 3 years. I take 800mg 3 times daily. I would like to know if shaking is a side effect. It started about 3 months ago. ## Hi Marlene, Interestingly enough, an "uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body" is listed as a side effect of Neurontin (Gabapentin). Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a694007.html#side-effects This medication seems to have some pretty strange side effects, so I would play it safe and talk to your doctor if it becomes too bothersome or severe. I hope this info helps!

i would like to make sure there is nothing in this i'm allergic to before taking this med. ## The active ingredient in Neurontin is Gabapentin, this is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help wtih certain types of nerve pain. Side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness and dizziness. As to any inactive ingredients, they can vary by manufacturer, so I can't tell you anything about those, without knowing who manufactured the ones you have. Is your doctor and pharmacy aware of your allergies?

If you take 3 neurotin is it the same as lortab ## Hello, Silversllider! How are you? No, they are not even close to being the same thing. Lortab contains Acetaminophen coupled with the narcotic Hydrocodone. But Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders, so it is not an actual analgesic. You actually need to take it regularly for awhile in order for it to have any therapeutic effect, it won't start working within minutes as a narcotic does. Is there anything else I can help with?

In 2003, I was given Neurotin to use for a period of six months. Shortly after starting taking the drug, I developed a cold/flu symptom. I had a terrible running nose and the nose was always blocked. I was breathing through the mouth. Now, even after completing the dose over the six months period, the cold/flu is still persisting. It is almost four years now. My nose is always running, sometimes I finished a roll of tissue paper in a day. The nose is always stuffy and blocked, forcing to breath through the mouth. I also devloped constipation symptom. I persistently pass gas through the mouth, an average of once every one and half minutes. Please if there is anybody who had similar exerience with me should kindly let me know how he/she resolved these conditions. My e-mail address is {edi...

Is lyrica a narcotic i just got some 100 mg to try i take neurotin 800 mg 3 times a day ## No, they aren't narcotics. ## Hello, Kaylee! How are you? BL is correct, thank you BL for your helpful post. To be more specific, these are both anticonvulsants that have also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. That said, no, you shouldn't take both, because you would be essentially doubling up on the same medication, which could result in overdose. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I take both. Has anyone ever saw neurotin with NT 151 or NT 150 on them? ## Hello, LB! How are you? Yes, it is a 600mg tablet from Parke-Davis of Pfizer. The FDA lists Gabapentin as being an anticonvulsant that is also approved to treat certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## NT 151 is a gabapentin 800 mg (neurotin 800 mg)...my friend get them from the dr and when she went to fill them at pharmacy she had not seen this exact pill before so she had me google it for her and that is what I found it to be.

Its simply a Neurotin........ ## Hello, I located the pill in description to be Gabapentin (800 mg). Gabapentin was originally developed for the treatment of epilepsy, and is currently widely used to relieve neuropathic pain. Gabapentin's most common side effects in adult patients include dizziness, drowsiness, and peripheral edema (swelling of extremities); these mainly occur at higher doses, in the elderly. I mix neurotin ,,wellburtin, clonidine, tramadol, neurotins together can this kill me or is it dangerous? ## Dear D, does the same Dr prescribe u these medications? If so, he would know if there would b any interactions. If not, the pharmacy usually picks up on these things. If u want 2 b sure, call your Dr or pharmacy. They helped me many of times. ## @D, Based on my research, there are potentially unsafe drug interactions listed between all of your medications; especially the Wellbutrin and Tramadol, as they could increase your risk for seizures. Aside from Clonidine and Wellbutrin, which may lower your blood pressure when used together... the other drug combinations/interactions are said to cause impaired thinking or judgement as a possible side effect. Overall you may have nothing t...

I want to get off of neurotin I'm takig 300 mg 3x daily how long will it take? ## My father has been taking 300 mg of neurontin every morning for approximately 3 years for treatment of neuropathic pain in his feet. He was diagnosed with dementia at least two years ago and his confusion and psychosis has progressively worsened. A nurse friend of mine told me I should immediately take him off the drug since her pharmacist advised her to do the same with her father whose psychotic behavior became worse when he started neurontin. She reports a remarkable improvement after he was off the drug three days. Should I try this and what are the risks? ## For anyone still seeking this information, since this medication works on brain chemicals, because it is an anticonvulsant, it should be slow...

what is major differences between metnax and neurotin in treatment of neurophy for diabetes....taking neurotin now .... doctor said i should try metnax any comments ? ## Metanx is actually a nutritional supplement and, it can help some people, if their pain is caused or aggravated by a deficiency in the vital nutrients it contains. However, there is no guarantee that it will help you. Neurontin is an actual medication, it contains the anticonvulsant Gabapentin, which has been proven to help with certain types of nerve pain. Is there a problem with weight gain taking neurotin? Lyrica and gabitril are just the same also you will feel HOT like you are going to catch a fire. ONE NASTY MEDICATION ## I've taken both medications. The Neurotin didn't help at all but I've been on the Lycria for several months now. I've had minor weight gain but have never felt like I was going to catch on fire or even a hot flash. After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia I have taken Neurotin, Topomax, Lyrica and now Savella. During this period of time I have gained 70lbs. I want to know what medication I can take for the fibro that will relieve headache pain yet will stop the weight gain and maybe even help me to get rid of this extra weight. ## There is actually no way to say how any medication will affect any person that takes it, so there is really no way to answer this question. While most of these medications can cause weight gain, it's usually not as extreme as what you've experienced. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor? Are you watching your diet and making sure that you get proper exercise on a regular basis? ## yes, this has been discussed with my dr. She suggested exercise and diet...
