i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol. i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred. is this withdrawal? how long will it last? i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad. ## I am experiencing the same thing and I am tapering off of the metoprolol. I have only been on for a couple of months and now the withdrawal is just as bad. I am down to 12.5 mg two times a day. I been on metoprolol for 2 months and at the beginning I experience severe constipation and now I have loose stools and it makes my sugar drops to very low levels to the point of i can not take metforming any more because I am afraid of an episode, and it gives a constant dry mouth how long before the stomach symtoms go away? ## Actually, the side effects should have hit their peak and started tapering off at around 4 to 6 weeks of use. However, Metoprolol is a beta blocker, used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions and some people tend to have bad reactions to them. If your symptoms have not started to improve, you should contact your doctor, because this is probably not the right medication for you. I also experienced severe problems with Metoprolol and had to stop taki...

Is it safe to switch from Metoprolol ER to Diltiazem CD without tapering off Metoprolol? And how long does it usually take Diltiazem CD capsules to get me out of AFib eppisode. ## Well, similar to the way the Metoprolol works, Diltiazem is not going to get you out of an A-Fib episode, what it does is help regulate the heart function to help prevent them from occurring to begin with. As to the direct switch, I am not sure and would suggest double checking with your doctor. The Metoprolol can cause rebound effects to your heart rate and blood pressure, if it is stopped abruptly. It may be necessary to taper off of it, or to adjust the initial doses of the Diltiazem to accommodate for this possibility. I had to stop taking Metoprolol abruptly, since I had very bad reactions to it, so my do...

Can you stop this med right away if there's too many side effects? I was on metoprolol, that stuff is terrible. Tapering off it now as it kept causing high blood pressure spikes. ## Hello, Ralph! How are you? As reported by the U.S. FDA stopping such a medication abruptly can create the risk of rebound effects, which may include dangoeursbly elevated blood pressure and heart rate, such effects could cause a risk of heart attack, stroke or heart failure. What problems are you experiencing with it? What are you taking it to treat and what will you be replacing it with? ## Was on metropolo , switched to valsartan , per dr. After one pill of valsartan the next day have problems, get winded just walking to mailbox and back, fast heart rate ,just got back from emerg. Room they checked eve...
