My primary care Dr. was giving me Amlodipine for high blood pressure. It was working well along with Lisinopril to keep my blood pressure in check but my legs and ankles began to swell so she took me off of the Amlodipine as leg/ankle swelling are a side effect. Now my legs are swelling again and if I am correct in what I am finding Amlodipine and Metoprolol are the same thing? ## Hello Anne, The NIH reports that metoprolol is abeta1-selective(cardioselective) adrenoceptor blocking agent and that amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. Can you please suggest alternative medication to Metoprolol Succinate ER + Amlodipine 50/5 mg [taken for High Blood Pressure] that does not cause erectile dysfunction? ## All medications that are used to treat hypertension and cardiac conditions risk causing erectile dysfunction as a side effect, it's just due to the nature of how they work on the cardiovascular system.
