I was given the 4mg 5 day dose pack of methylprednisolone for an allergic reaction that caused swelling of my lips and front part of my jaw. Will there be any withdrawal side effects once I have completed my prescribed dosage? ## Hello, Riya! How are you? The FDA classifies this medication as a steroid and no, there shouldn't be any, if you take it as prescribed. However, some of its side effects may still linger for a week or so, after finishing it. So you may still experience headache, insomnia, nervousness and elevated blood pressure. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I took methylprednisolne for 7 days... now hives are back in my eyes and face a day later. I was prescribed methylprednisolone yesterday and took day all 6 pills, now I have a horrible headache. I've had ulcer symptoms before and I take protonix daily, so I take as little excedrin as possible. The headache is horrible. I took an excedrin this morning, and now I want to stop taking the steroid dose pack all together, will that be ok? ## No, you should follow the instructions and taper, otherwise complication can arise that could cause even more serious health issues. Headaches can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, insomnia and acne. If it's okay with your doctor, you may want to skip Excedrin and try just taking regular Tylenol for the headaches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## How often can a Med...

I've done the 4mg pill regiment. I did fine. But only felt about 2weeks of relief. It's been two months ago, now I'm on day two of new six day pill regimen and it's causing me bad nausea this time around. Has anyone taking the shot? If so please give details? How many shots? Any side effects? How long dose it help for? How often can you take it? Thanks in advance! ## Hello, Ronnie! How are you? I am sorry about the problems you're experiencing. The shot and pills are about the same, so your period of relief will be very similar, so will the side effects, according to the NIH. You may also experience dizziness, insomnia, heart palpitations, and headache. As to how many shots, or how often, that really depends on what your doctor feels is safe for you. Are you on any o...

I was give this for a cough/cold. My symptoms are not that severe, so I was thinking of starting with 3 pills and tapering to 2 then 1. Is this dangerous? I just hate the way I feel on prednisone. ## Hello, Eileen! How are you? It would be best to take it as prescribed, starting with 6 tablets and tapering down to 1. This is not Prednisone, it is a steroid, but a different one. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and acne. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm on a 6 day/4mg medril dosepak what can help with the insomnia? ## I only have 7 pills (missed) out of a 6 day 4mg pack of methylprednisolone. I ended up at the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. So I didn't take the last two pills. It has now been a full week after my last dose, and I am still struggling with insomnia, nausea, dizziness, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, heart pounding and high bp. I feel better in the evenings, but then it starts over in the mornings. Does anyone know how much longer these side effects will last? Does anyone have a similar story? ## I'm two weeks past the last dose, and I still have anxiety, nausea/weakness, fast heart beat and trouble sleeping. Can anyone help me get an idea how much longer this will go on? I've been to my Dr twice, and going to a cardiologist tomorrow, all because of this awful methylprednisolone pack. ## Usually it takes about 2 weeks for the side effec...

It has been a terrible 4 weeks after taking the dose pack, and I am slowly getting back to my normal self (not there yet). I have now developed in tolerances to certain foods... itchy mouth, throat, etc. I now carry benedryl with me at all times, and have been prescribed an EpiPen. I've never even had pollen allergies in my entire life... now this? I'm afraid to eat!!! Has anyone else developed food intolerences/alergies after taking prednisone? I am still dealing with other side effects as well. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? No, that isn't something that usually happens from taking this medication, according to the FDA, so that's very unusual. People sometimes discover they are allergic to the medication itself and may experience symptoms such as swollen throat, hives, a...

In the last four months I've been prescribed dosepacks three times by two different doctors plus shots a few months before that. After reading about the dangers im scared but can't undo what is done. Am I in trouble here? ## Doubtful, usually such issues would be noticeable either while taking the dose pack, or shortly after finishing, according to the NIH. Have you experienced any fluid retention? Or sudden weight gain? The FDA lists those as possible warning signs of issues. Are you on any other medications?

Hi I'm deb, I have been prescribed methylprednisone 4mg for plantar fasciitis in my foot.. take 5 then 4,3,2,then 1 . I've been on methadon 28yrs, I'm afraid to start this if it's going to cause withdrawals any good feedback ? All I here are bad ones ## I had the worst experience imaginable with the dose pack. It was prescribed to be for headaches caused by whiplash from being rear-ended. Now, 7 1/2 long months later, I am finally getting back to normal. It took almost three months for my heart rate and blood pressure to normalize, 5 months for the nausea, dizziness and depression to go away, but I'm still dealing with anxiety. On top of that, I became extremely sensitive to food and/or food additives, and couldn't eat anything except meat, potatoes, rice, eggs a...

can I take methylprednisolione if i took diclofenac? can I start my methylprednisolone pack on day 3 ## Hello, Denver! How are you? No, these two generally shouldn't be taken together, due to the increased risk of GI ulceration, from them increasing the toxicity of each other. It would be best to speak to your doctor regarding what you can safely take with the Methylprednisolone. As to it, the FDA classifies it as a steroid and, for it to be most effective, you should take the full dose pack, as prescribed, with no shortcuts. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, fluid retention, acne and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took a Methylprednisolone dose pack for 6 days for inflammation in my foot. 8 days after my last dose which was one pill the last day, I had blood work done for my routine physical. They called and want to do more blood work in 2 weeks because my white blood cell count was "slightly elevated". It was 11.3. Could the steroids have affected this? ## Hello, Gail! How are you? Yes, it could have, it could also have been caused if an infection had caused the inflammation, and sometimes due to the inflammation itself, according to the NIH. Other side effects of this medication, as listed by the NIH, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and acne. It is routine to recheck in a few weeks, to be careful. If they are still elevated, it could mean you have some type...

For back pain, how often is it safe to use the 8mg. methylprednisolone dose pack? I am 65 y/o female in fairly good health except for spinal stenosis, chronic bronchitis and mild hypertension. I had a 2 epidurals 2 months ago and not time to have it repeated for 3 more months. ## You should only take it as directed by your doctor, it can be repeated, if they approve of your doing so, but you should always be careful to check with them. The FDA lists its typical side effect as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, fluid retention and elevated blood pressure. Are you on any other medications?

I've taken a methylprednisolone dose pack early October, and I am still experiencing typical withdrawel symptoms, 2 1/2 months later.. low blood pressure, nausea, dizziness, muscle pain, heart palps, alergies, etc. I reacted very badly while taking it, having to stop it the fifth day. How much longer will this go on?? ## I had a similar situation. I stopped taking (weaned off) on December 19. Four weeks out and I'm still having side effects. ## Mayhem, how are you doing now? It's been almost 5 months after my last dose, and I am still dealing with problems, due to the dose pack. Nobody seems to know what is wrong, or how to fix it. I am really frustrated. I started a dose pack of 4mg methylprednisolone today. I was supposed to take two before breakfast and discovered tonight that I only took one. Should I take two in the morning before breakfast or skip it altogether? ## Hello, Poola! How are you? You can take it as soon as you noticed it, it doesn't necessarily have to be taken before breakfast. That's just a recommended schedule to try to help people remember to take it. This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, acne and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?

Today it's been 3 weeks since my last dose of the methylprednisolone dose pack. I am finally getting some more sleep, but the side effects I am most worried about is my elevated heart rate. Minimal exercise sends it over 100 bpm. When can I expect this to get better? ## You heart rate should go up whenever you are being active. The Mayo Clinic provides a formula for calculating it, subtract your age from 220 and that will give you the maximum heart rate you should hit during exercise/activity. For example, I am 45, subtracting that from 220 gives me 175, so when being active, or exercising, my heart rate should not exceed that number. It is far more dangerous to have a very elevated heart rate, when you are at rest. Have you checked your resting rate? ## My resting rate is on the 80...

I was prescribed methylprednisolone (medrol) after having surgery to repair a herniated disc in my back. I took the 6 day dose pack and had to stop 4 days in for mood swings, aggressiveness, insomnia, trouble breathing, disorganized and repetitive thoughts, paranoia, just too many to list. I had to sit in a dark room for hours on end just to gather my thoughts at times and avoided people entirely. The worst of it lasted for about 7 days, it's now been over 2 weeks since I stopped taking it. I thought I was out of the woods until the mood swings started again 2 days ago out of nowhere. Thankfully I have 1 month left to recover from back surgery before returning to work. I hope the symptoms go away by then. My advice, ask your doctor if there is an alternative medication you can take ...

I am a 30 year old female and in the beginning of March 2013 I got terribly sick with some sort of cold paired with a severe sinus infection. I was prescribed Methylprednisolone 4mg dose pack. I completed that with only minor side effects however it didn't really work and I was back at the doctor a mere week later feeling just as bad. I was then prescribed Prednisone 20mg tablets, taking 3 daily for 5 days. It helped my symptoms and I felt better. However, my last dose was Sunday 3/17/2013 and today is Wednesday 3/20/2013 and I am feeling incredibly strange. I feel weak, tired, irritable, depressed, dizzy and light-headed at times, off balance and I am getting mild headaches. I'm also moody and have a short temper. From looking online it looks like these are some of the devastat...
