Glucophage seems to be less likely to give me diarrhea and nausea. Are there any generic brands which have less side effects than Aurobindo Metformin? I lost a lot of weight on the generic to my chagrin because I was down to 83 lbs. ## Hello, Peanut! How are you? They all carry the risk of causing the same side effects, it is just a matter of finding one that works for you, without making you completely miserable, so it is basically trial and error. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, stomach pain, and flatulence. Which other ones have you tried?

I too have taken 850 mg Zyd tabs dispensed from Walmart. My A1c went from 6.0 to 7.1 with no change in diet and exercise. They also have an odd taste. I just switched to 850 mg made by Sun dispensed from Medco/Express scripts and after 3 days my Glucose is now back to the 120's. For me I found Zyd ineffective. There are differences in the generics. If one brand doesn't work for you try another before you give up on Metformin altogether. ## You are correct, there can be differences and that does make them less effective for some people. You may want to double check in the future, when you get a refill, to make sure that you don't get the one from Zydus, again. Is there anything I can help with?

what is the osm type of metformin er can't find anything on it and my NP can't either except it costs very much ## OSM is used to designate it as being osmotic, it's used to make sure that you get a maximum extended/time released formulation of the medication. That's why it costs more, it's not a typical generic, because it doesn't have the usual leeway that they are allowed to have, it is tested more rigorously and adheres to much stricter release requirements. why does it smell like fish? ## I got my script refilled the other day and the new one smells like fish too! My first bottle (different manufact) did not smell like fish. Beginning to wonder if it is of good quaility ## It is an odor from one of the fillers they use in making the medication, nothing to worry about. Since each company that makes the generic version of med can use different fillers, then some might have the odor and some won't. ## Yes, it is too something to worry about! With all the horrible cheap fillers being used these days by money grubbing foreign countrues - killing our animals and probably us too. The brand I got from Walgreens is fine - even old pills dont take on a smell. But the cheap kind sold by Walmart and as I know of, Strogers hospital in chicago smell...

Just got my Metformin ER 750 refilled. The pills look different... could be different manufacturer? One has 93 on one side and 7212 on the other. The other has 143 stamped on one side and nothing I can see on the other side. Help? ## Yes, they are both the same medication, a controlled release formulation of Metformin in a 750mg dosage. The one with the 93 is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals and the 143 is manufactured by Sun Pharmaceuticals. It is common for the pharmacy to switch which generic they supply, depending on which company was offering the cheapest price, when they needed to restock their supply. It's how they keep their prices as low as possible for customers without insurance. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was prescribed with CLOPIDOGREL -PLAGERINE 7...

COULD THEY BE GENERIC AND THE OTHER BRAND NAME MEDICATION? ## I have two bottles of Metformin HLC Tabs. One is a refill for the other. The tabs are different shapes made by different companies. Same strength is the same. Is this a mistake. ## This type of thing does confuse many people, which is why I think more medications should be standardized as to how they look. However, right now they aren't, so you can receive the same medication, manufactured by different companies and they may look completely differently. As of this time, the way a medication looks is entirely up to the whit and whim of the m...

So, this new one might have a little more of the active ingredient than the prior one that you were taking and thus, causing you more side effects. Diarrhea is a typical side effect of this medication, as listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, hypoglycemia and flatulence. Have you consulted your doctor?
