Why is this prescription form of Folate, B-12 and B-6 prescribed? Why not over the counter? ## Since you didn't provide a name brand or dosing, I can't be completely certain about this one in particular, but some of them are prescription only due to the amount of the vitamins that they contain. Some dosages aren't appropriate for someone that doesn't suffer a deficiency, as getting to much of some of them, especially B12 can be very dangerous. Learn more B vitamin details here. Are there any other questions or comments?

Help!! I have been taking vit B supplements but the hematologist said my body can't metabolize regular supplements b/c I have one strand of dna with MTHFR mutation. He said I need Foltx b/c my body can metabolize that type of vit B. What is the difference? it is expensive?! ## From what I've researched, Foltx reportedly contains the following B vitamins: Folacin + Cyanocobalamin + Pyridoxine In terms of differences: - Folacin is just another name for folic acid / folate / vitamin B9 - Cyanocobalamin is actually a cheaper synthetic inactive version of vitamin B12 made in a laboratory. By comparison, Hydroxocobalamin is another inactive form of B12, and Methylcobalamin is the only naturally occurring biologically active version of B12. - Pyridoxine is just another name for vitamin...

ARE GNC VITAMIN B-6 200, GNC VITAMIN B-12 1000 & GNF FOLIC ACID 1000 COMBINED A GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR METANX? IS THERE A GENERIC FOR METANX AVAILABLE? ## There is a generic for Metanx now. I have been paying $42, but the generic is $18. Ask your pharamacist. ## There is NO generic for Metanx, anyone that claims to be a generic does not have the L form of folate (Metanx) that product would have both the inactive form in their product (racemic mixture). DO NOT TAKE THE RACEMIC FORM. If your doctor prescribes Metanx, please only take Metanx. ## A racemic mixture has both the L and R forms of the substance and should be OK, just make sure there is sufficient L form (half of the total weightj). I.e. Metanx has 2.8 mg of the L-methylfolate, make sure the generic has this or 5.6 mg of methyl...

Is the medication Methotrexate a steroid ? ## No, if falls under the DMARD category. (Disease Modifying Anti-Rhuematic Drug) ## I take that medication for lupus. It is also used as a cancer chemotherapy medication. It can cause your blood sugar to go high, especially if you are a diabetic, cause severe headache, and diarrhea. ## Metho is sytotoxic, it inhibits an enzyme that participates in the production of folate (related to Folic Acid). Methotrexate acts specifically during DNA and RNA synthesis. It has a greater toxic effect on rapidly dividing cells. Your doctor must have explained you need supplement with enough folic acid (as high as 2-10 mg at least 5 times a week) and B12, as well as antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals. I hope you are taking curcumin, quercetin, boswel...

I have had abnormaly large red blood cells for some time, with no good medical reason - So say my Docs. Please comment if you pertenant info ! ## red blood cells are very large ## Extra large red blood cells ## I'm sure it's from their shots never in my life have I has this ## If they are unable to find any medical reason, then there is likely nothing to worry about. Usually, Macrocytic Anemia is caused by a deficiency in vitamin B12, and Folate. Left untreated such an issue can cause medical problems, such as heart failure, and circulatory issues. However, there are always some people whose bodies are different, and something seen as unusual for others, is normal for them, which is why in medicine, we never swear that anything applies 100% to everyone. For example, I have a fri...
