Lamictal is not for everyone and has very serious side effects. If a doctor says they they want to increase the dosage for possible better effects...STOP. Tell the doctor to try something different and something that has been around for some time. The latest and greatest isn't always the best choice. Sometimes the tried and true are the best. I speak from experience after dealing with it for my wife. ## Hi Tommy, Thank you for your input! You're definitely right. Lamicatal has some pretty serious side effects that can be fatal in some cases. how long does the dizziness last? ## It lasted about 4 weeks with me. It was a pain to go through but it was worth it. I've been on it for 10 months for bi-polar. ## Side effects and their duration will vary from person to person, it depends on your body chemistry, your tolerance to meds, the dose you are taking and etc. The average is about 2 weeks, but it can be longer and shorter depending on the person. If it still persists after about 4 weeks, then be sure to consult your doctor. ## I have been on lamictal for 22 yrs, I still get some dizzines if i do not eat regularly, sleep and tireness seem to make a diff with me also... I am on 300 mg. 4 times daily ## I have experenced the dizziness a few times since I started taking Lamictal in Jan.2007

I started taking Lamictal for panick attacks about a month ago. Im 29/female who has never needed prescriptions for this, but panick attacks have been hitting me out of nowhere lately. Anyways, the nurse practitioner started me on 25mg for 2 weeks, 50mg 2 weeks, and 100mg this week. The weekends before my dosage needed to be increasesed, I would have HORRIBLE panick attacks, I mean worse than the first ones before the meds. I'm tiny 5"0 and I've lost 8lbs due to panick attacks every 2 weeks for over a month. I just can't put anything down. Now I'm on 100mg a day and see no signs of improvement. I cry every time I try to express myself, im starting to develop agoraphobic behavior, and I'm terrified to travel now, which is ridiculous because I am a touring musician...

Hi. I started lamotrigine last Aug and lost my appetite in October. I have had significant weight loss. I don't want to go off of it, because it has been incredibly helpful mood wise. Has anyone experienced this and switched to another med as a solution? If so, what was that medication and how did you find the transition and the efficacy of the new drug? Thanks very much. ## Hello, Kwwilkie! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Lamotrigine has been known to cause loss of appetite, as a side effect, along with nausea, blurred vision, poor concentration, and skin rash. Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your doctor to be sure that the weight loss is due to the medication? As to trying a different medication, there are many available, but what else have you t...

I have been on 150 milligrams of lamictal for approximately 2 years. I've been diagnosed with BPD. Through DBT therapy and meditation I have not had any hypo manic episodes for several months. I have been tapering down since November. I just dropped down to 50 milligrams. I'm feeling angry and impatient. Is this normal? Will this pass? Should I stop taking it completely and just get the withdrawal over with? ## Hello, Kat! How are you? Yes, those can withdrawal effects of any anticonvulsant or mood stabilizer. You may also experience nausea, chills and diarrhea, as listed by the FDA. However, no stopping abruptly is not recommended, because it may create the risk of seizures. Is your physician helping you with your taper?

Today is my first day reducing Viibryd after being on 40mg/day for 9 mths. The therapeutic dose of this anti-anxiety medication has me suffering panic attacks that can be set off by any sudden sound or movement, however normal, like the phone ringing, a car honking, the buzz of a lawn mower, etc. It's as if my mind cannot figure out where the sound is coming from or what it is, and the result of a simple something that doesn't seem to phase anyone else alarms my mind into bracing every muscle to fight for my life, only there's no danger. My 'coming to' and seeing in these situations that I am the only one in a panic ready to defend myself from a physical attack that is not going to take place then reduces me from a warrior braced for battle into a gasping for air hea...

I am currently prescribed Lamictal for bi-polar disorder. I am getting my wisdom teeth out quite soon and as told by doctor, will probably be given vicodin for the pain. Does anyone know if there is any serious reactions being on both things? ## i am prescribed both daily and have no problems at all,,,,,,,,,, ## I would not take them together (ie., at the same time). I would try to put a two or three hour spread between them. Also split Lamictal dose if your pdoc says it is alright- take 1/2 your daily dose in the AM and 1/2 in the PM. The hydrocodone may not have the full pain management effect depending on your lamictal dosage. If in doubt, always ask your PHARMACIST. They can look up drug interactions and recommendations easily.

## Please see the drug page about Lamictal for more details. You can also read the full monograph at: Do you have any other questions or information to add? Please post back if you do... ## I have been taking a graduating dose of lamictal and am now on 100mg but will increase to 200mg next week. I have found that I have put on xtra weight and that sleeping at night has become a problem. My dr has now prescribed respedal at night to help me sleep and the occasional sleeping tablet when I am in a hyper cycle. Has anyone else had the same side effects. I also have muscle aches that seem to zero on a specific place ie. my ankles or my one arm or back, this only seems to last a few days then moves to another place. Could this be the meds causing it. ## Ducky - what you are reporting about si...

hi, I went into Detox for alcohol May 15 and depression. I was then put on Lamictal 50mg lamictal then went to 100mg in 3 days. I've been on 100 mg for 3 weeks. I started reading about side effects, rash, etc. and how normal dose to start with is 25mg for a few weeks then go to 50. I'm worried because my Doctor sent me home with 100mg of lamictal right away. Any thoughts? ## Hello Candy! How are you? The dosages you're reading are for its standard use for Epilepsy, which is quite different than detoxing from alcohol. A doctor must adjust it accordingly for that use, to help prevent delirium tremens and possible seizures, as well as helping to prevent the cravings for alcohol. As listed by the FDA, the typical side effects for Lamictal may possibly include nausea, weight gain...

I am taking both lamictal and topomax for seizures and would like to try lipozene. I have lost about 80 lbs. of weight but now I have so much flab that I need to get rid of in my mid section, lower thighs, and inner thighs. I've been excercising for the past two months now and nothing is not working. I've been weight lifting, working out on the machines, even using the treadmill and eliptical, but nothing seems to work! When I saw this commercial, I thought about it and was wondering if it would be safe? I know that it can be bought in retail stores like Walgreens so, I would try it there anyway. Liposuction is so expensive and I cannot afford that, so, this would probably be my only way out at this point unless there is another route I can take! Does anyone know if this is safe...

HAs anyone had experience with Lamictal causing mania? It definetely did for me. Landed me in the hospital for 6 days and took a full month to subside. Thanks, Pati ## want pictures ## images ## To Pati..YES, I have had trouble titrating dosage up to as little as 50 mg. each time, within 3 days, I was "wild". I have been on it for 3 months at 25 mg/day and can't stand it anymore. I am feeling that anger and uncontorollable impulses again. and no sleep. I am stopping this tonight and pray that I find a doctor who actually understands the anxiety part and bipolar people need sleep, desperately. ## To Pati I have just quit for the very same reasons but had hallucinations to add to the mix. I was only on it for Epilepsy and have just come off 100mg cold turkey as couldn't ta...

My doctor started me on Lamictal 3mg for my mood disorder. What is the usual dosage for this medication? This seems like a low dose. Does anyone else take this medication for mood disorders? ## I need to get info about the meds my spouse is taking. He is seeing several specialists and each one gives him prescriptions and he is taking about 30 meds a day. I think it is too much and affecting him. Any help?? ## Hi April, It looks like dosages for Lamictal can range from 2 mg all the way up to 200 mg. [1] So yes, 3 mg would be on the lower end of the dosing scale. Was he prescribed the orally disintegrating tablets? From what I read this medication can be used to help treat seizures as well as help with mood swings for adults with bipolar disorder. [2]

can I take cherratussin while I am on lamictal ## I have been on Lamictal for several years and have been prescribed and taken it several times during that period. I have also taken vicodin and percocet for pain when needed. If you're taking lamictal for BPD (as I am) the danger is not physical. If you tend to the more manic side you should be careful with any medication that has a possible side effect of euphoria. ## I was prescribed cherratussin, what is in it and is there a narcotic in this medicine?

It caused me to not sleep and become irrationnally angry. Helped my mood up though. I am not that angry of a person naturally so it was a schocker. ## Hello, Nickoly! How are you? Change in personality like that is actually fairly common with anticonvulsants, it happened to my fiancé with the first one he tried a couple years ago. It usually means you can no longer take that one and need to switch to a different one. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Verwon I am doing better I got off Lamictal 3 months ago. Taking Latuda and intially had a great response on the Latuda. Much more energy better mood.
