Hyaluronic acid (HA) is present is synovial fluid that lubricates joints and helps the joints to move easily over each other. Patients with osteoarthritis have decreased amount of Hyaluronic acid (HA). This treatment is known as viscosupplementation in which Hyaluronic acid is injected into body. It can have several side effects such as pain and swelling at site of injection. This treatment is not effective in every patient.
