Januvia Sitagliptin Phosphate

Sitagliptin, sold under the brand name Januvia among others, is an anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes.[4] In the United Kingdom it is listed as less preferred than metformin or a sulfonylurea.[5] It is taken by mouth.[4] It is also available in the fixed-dose combination medication sitagliptin/metformin (Janumet, Janumet XR).[4] Common side effects include headaches, swelling of the legs, and upper respiratory...

I've taken Januvia for several months and have developed depression and other side effects. I stopped taking the drug and wonder how long before it is out of my system. ## Januvia has a very short half-life, only 6 to 8 hours, this refers to the time it takes for the drug to reach 50% of its dosage in your body. That said, it probably takes less than a day to be removed from your system. However, since you were taking it for several months and if you stopped taking it abruptly, you may also be experiencing some minor withdrawal symptoms, which could last for several days.

I recently began taking Januvia and in less than 2 weeks later I got my first case of gout. Has anyone else had this happen to them? ## I have just been given a prescription for januvia. I notice that one of the side effects is an upper respiratory infection. I am having a knee replacement in two weeks, and I don't need to have an infection. What has been the experience with this? ## I was put on Januvia two days ago and I now have gout in my wrist. ## First off, let me state that this is NOT what would be considered a drug interaction, a drug interaction occurs when you are taking more than one drug at the same time and the two (or more) of them together cause adverse effects. If this type of problem is caused by the drug, then it is considered a Side Effect. That said, I can only ...

i was on Amtas AT for 2 years and after that suddenly my blood sugar started rising. I don't have any family history of diabetes. Now am taking Januvia because Janumet though being more effecting in controlling my sugar is causing side effects like loss of apatite and vomit like sensation. 1) Are these side effects normal, if so, can i keep taking janumet as januvia doesn't control my sugar that well. 2)Is my diabetes due to prolonged use of Amtas AT ? My age is 51. ## i took Januvia for over 2 months, i tolerated the nightmares, stuffy nose, swollen fingers and toes, waking up with fluid bags under each eye on separate occasions, but today i reached the peak of the side effects, felt like i was coming down with a bad flu, had a swollen tongue and mouth, was out of breath going ...

Does anyone experience a burning sensation? I'very been on Januvia for 5-6 months. ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. What type of burning sensation are you experiencing? In what part(s) of your body? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including blurred vision, nausea, headache, nightmares and hypoglycemia. ## I burn all over my body from head to toe.

I don't know why the pill did not dissolve. I picked it up just to make sure, with a glove on of course. No wonder my sugar was high every morning. I took this medication at night. But not only 1 pill, I took 3. Before that I was bloated and had diarrhea that morning, but when I passed the stool I felt relieved n felt good. I stopped and found that my sugar levels were fine in the morning and my blood sugar is ok. ## What you are seeing in your stool is just the shell of the pill. Some components of this medication are not meant to be digested or dissolved by your body, instead they are part of a mechanism to help control how much of the medication you receive in your body, at once. If you stopped taking it abruptly, you need to inform your doctor and discuss the issue with them, as...

I have been on Januvia (25mg) for only three days and on day two I started experiencing severe dizziness. I didn't take a dose this morning because I was still dizzy from the previous day's dose. Does this side effect pass or should I contact my doctor? ## Stop the drug and notify your MD ASAP. ## @Vegas Mama, The US National Library of Medicine lists "dizziness" as an uncommon side effect of Januvia; at which point it sounds like it would be a good idea to stop taking the medication and contact your doctor right away (as Jerry suggested). Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0045526/#DDIC602203.side_effects_section But to further answer your question, some side effects don't necessarily require immediate medical attention, and may very well go away on their own as ...

I have been experencing this since I've been taking it and all my dr. says it to take it at a different time of day which doesn't help ## Hello, Cherie! How are you? The outer shell won't dissolve, but the medication is still being released and used by your body. Many medications use a shell to help control the release of the medication and help prevent stomach damage and then that shell is just expelled by your body as waste. The FDA lists this as an oral antidiabetic medication and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, stomach pain, flatulence and hypoglycemia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank...

I have been type 2, for 10 years, 3 years ago I was put on Sitagliptin, then last year on Invokana, lost weight and also lowered sugar numbers, then instead of using diet and excercise I just used the tabets to keep sugars down, then sugars went to 8.7 HBAC1, was put on Victoza and both medications stopped, in last 3 months, my sugars on Victoza sky rocketed to 11.9 HBAC1. After a massive argument with the GP, I asked to be put back in Januvia and Invokana, my sugars over the last months have been in their 15 to 20, I took one tabet of each yesterday, and my number are in single figures, I have vowed to keep drinking more, do my excercises and also now go on a low carb diet, I am grateful for these new medications, without which my sugars was out of control, and my next option was Insulin

I am taking this, just started with Januvia 100mg and Xidgduo 10/mg1000mg. Can these both be taken at the same time? I cannot remember what he told me. I think he said take them both cause I was taking Farxiga 10mg and Janumet 500/1000mg. Is this the same thing with these new pills? ## Hello, Frank! How are you? If they were prescribed to replace the others, then I would think they are meant to be taken together, but only your doctor can give you a definitive answer. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence, stomach pain, and hypoglycemia. Is there anything else I can help with?

Bottom Line just too expensive. $350 for 100 MG for 30 Days. I can't afford it. It works but too much! Is there something else I can take? I also take 800 MG Metformin twice a day. Age 50. I am in good shape, no side effects, just bad genes from Dad who also has Type II Diabetes ## Januvia does have a savings coupon for those with private insurance that can help you save up to $150 per prescription. You can learn more about the Januvia Program here. If you don't qualify, you should consult your doctor to see what other medications you can try. What state are you in? Some have prescription savings programs of their own. I live in Washington state, and there's a program here for uninsured, and underinsured people that helps lower the cost of both name brand medications, and ge...

I started taking Januvia together with metformin. After a few days i started getting a burning sensation in my arms. After taking januvia for about 20 days I went back to my doctor and she removed the januvia but I still get a burning sensation. Is the januvia still in my system and how long before it goes out? ## Hello, Meg! How are you doing? Do you still have the burning sensation? What are your normal blood sugar levels? The burning sensation could be due to nerve damage, from the diabetes, rather than a medication side effect. ## I'm from Sri Lanka and I want to use "m 21 Diabetes medicine". How can I get it? How much does it cost? Do any pharmacies carry it in Sri Lanka?

Taking Januvia for years. Developed severe itching my dermatologist said stop taking it. How long till itching stops. ## If you were on it for that long, it may take a month or so, for the side effects to fully wear off and for your body to settle down and return to normal. Since it is used to treat diabetes, have you replaced it with anything else? You can't just stop a medication like this, since you still need to control your blood sugar. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, flatulence and hypoglycemia.
