I have been taking isorb mono 30mg for approx 8 days. The biggest side effect is headaches. My question is: What is the result supposed to be to the patient for taking this rx? ## Based on my research, Isosorbide mononitrate is used in the treatment of heart failure, angina pectoris prophylaxis (chest pain), and esophageal spasm. It works by relaxing the blood vessels to the heart, so the blood and oxygen supply to the heart is increased. However, if you are certain of what it is, here is the monograph listing for this medication: Isosorbide Mononitrate ## I have taken this medicine for almost 5 years, whenever I stopped taking it (couldnt afford it)and started taking it again, I would get the terrible headaches until my body got used to it once again. After not taking it for almost six months, I got it refilled once again. The headaches arent there, the pill is different and I am wondering if I actully got Isosorb Mono like the bottle says. INDICATIONS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS ## What is the difference between Isosorb Mono 30mg Ertabs and ISOSORBIDE ER TABS 30MG? I ordered each from different labs with the same perscription and the look totally different. The Isosorb Mono 30mg Ertabs are small and round and white. The ISOSORBIDE ER TABS 30MG are larger and oblong and pink. Are the pills the same with slightly different names and appearences, or are the different perscriptions? I need to know before I continue to take either one of the pills. Ron Diggs ## They are the same, there is just no regulation requiring that they look the same, they can look however the manufacturer wants them to, so appearance is the only difference. My wife has been taking "isosorb mono er 30mg tab wes" for a couple years. The pharmacy changed the tab to "Isosorb Mono Er 30mg Tab tor". The tablets have a different appearance. Are there any concerns we should have changing to this new tablet? ## No, all that shows is that they have been manufactured by a different company, but it is the same medication, in the same dosage. The new ones with the tor have been manufactured by Torrent Pharmaceuticals. Learn more Isosorbide Mononitrate details here. Are there any other questions?

Picked up my prescription today and the look is different. Have been getting Isosorbide mono a oblong pink tablet. Today I got a small white oval tablet. Called pharmacy and didn't get a satisfactory answer. Is this white tablet same as pink one? ## What are the markings on the tablet in question? The colors don't actually mean anything and, since this is a generic, there are many on the market. ## What are these used for? What illness or symptoms? ## Isosorbide extended-release (long-acting) tablets and extended-release capsules are used for the management of chest pain in people who have coronary artery disease. Isosorbide can only be used to prevent angina; it cannot be used to treat an episode of angina once it has begun. Isosorbide is in a class of medications called vasodi...

Does this pill contain FD&C yellow 5 or blue 1 dye? These dyes cause me to itch. They are a by-product of coal tar which I'm allergic to. ## Well, Isosorbide Mononitrate is a generic, so it is manufactured by several different companies and they don't all have to use the same inactive ingredients. Thus, I can't actually answer your question, without having more information. Are there any markings on them? Or is there a manufactured listed on the bottle by your pharmacy? If you can post back with this additional information, I'll gladly check into it for you. Learn more Isosorbide details here. ## on the front of pink oval pills 30mg. What is the difference between the two. My husband took the ER, and I think by accident he was prescribed the SA by a different Dr. ## Hello, Shur! How are you and your husband? There is actually no difference, they are both just different abbreviations used to designate that he's been prescribed the time released formulation. The ER stands for extended release and the SA stands for sustained action, so they are different ways of saying the same thing. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, frequent urination and sore throat. Is there anything else I can help with?

My Dr. put me on 30mg of isosorbide mono er. Not for Angina but to improve my oxygen intake. My problem is that When I take a pill I cannot take another, the next morning, because my blood pressure is in the 20's. I am 88, had open heart triple bypass surgery 6 years ago. Plaque, that was my only problem. Drs. say that I have a strong heart. Question -- Can I split the pill and take only half a pill per morning. ## Wow! Your BP drops to the 20's? Is that systolic or diastolic? Strong heart, or not, the is a dangerously low number. My PCP and cardiologist worry if mine drops below 90/60. Have you been experiencing any symptoms, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and headache? Are you on any other medications?

For lack of funds I was without my isosorb mono er 30mg tab WES for five days. I started taken it again and after two days of horrible headaches realized must be my meds. My question is can I cut them in half so my system can more slowly get used to the Isosorb again? ## Hello, Based on my research, Splitting tablets (if split unevenly) may effect the designed release profile significantly enough to where it may cause health problems. The way certain tablets (especially coated and controlled release tablets) are broken down and absorbed in the body can change when they are split. This can potentially decrease positive effects and increase negative effects associated with the medication. Tablets that are safe to split normally have a score line or breakage line. Are there any breakage li...

Isosorbide MN ER 30 MG - I took this drug - 1 each day - for 1 1/2 months to relieve the steady pain of Esophageal Spasms and developed severe headaches. Thought at first it was from arthritis in my back so went a chiropractor for 1 month - no help there. Stopped taking this drug for 4 nights and "WOW" No headaches. I will NOT take anymore of this medication. ## Who told you to take it to treat that? Isosorbide Mononitrate is usually used to treat angina pectoris, because it dilates the blood vessels and can reduce the pressure on them. Thus, it is not a pain reliever, nor a muscle relaxant. And headaches are a very common side effect of this medication, due to the very nature of how it works. ## Your headache indeed was because of the medication, had you needed it for a HEART c...

I recently had an angiogram in which it was found that I had a minor arterial blockage for which isosorb 30mg was prescribed. This drug worked fine for 30 days, but when refilled by a different pharmacy isosorbide mono 30mg was provided. After the first dose, I had this hard to describe upper respiritory sensation, which kept me awake, and I also developed intense pain in my right hip, leaving me hardly able to walk.
