Started Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim 800/160 twice a day for a staph infection two weeks ago. Stomach pain and nausea started in second week. Apparently these are rare side effects. I stopped it for 24hrs. and symptoms subsided. But I did not want to risk compromising the treatment so I started again. Symptoms returned about ten hrs later. Do I tough it out or can I take something like yogurt to counteract the symptoms? ## Hello, Tony! How are you? I wouldn't say they're rare side effects, many people experience them. I was miserable myself, when I took it. Yes, you can take it with food or a snack to help mitigate them. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with?
