I'm taking 15mg of morphine and my doctor wants to give me percocet due to a recent diagnosis, so I'm kinda wondering if the medication I have now is better or is it about the same? ## Hi Shelly, According to nih.gov, Oxycodone (one of the main active ingredients in Percocet) is said to be approximately 1.5x stronger than Morphine. If this holds true and I did the math correctly, then 7.5mg of Oxycodone would be equal to about 11.25mg of Morphine (7.5 x 1.5 =11.25); and 10mg of Oxycodone would be equal to about 15mg of Morphine (10 x 1.5 =15). The addition of Acetaminophen in Percocet would probably top the 15mg of Morphine if you were prescribed the 10/325 dosage form. I hope this makes sense!? There is a form of Hydrocodone that does not contain tylenol. However, for some people that Acetaminophen in Percocet can augment the action of the Oxycodone, so it may be more effective and could be the same as them taking 12 or 13mgs of the Oxycodone. But, it doesn't work that way for everyone. I've been on oxycodone 10mg for several years. My pain management doc has been reducing my prescription by 5 pills each month to get me down to just 120 per month. Next month I will be at the 120 mark. I've been complaining as that 1 less per day makes a difference in managing my pain daily. A few months ago my pharmacy switched their supplier and the new pills won't cut. They literally shatter on one side leaving me about 3/4 of a pill & crumbs. My dr. Changed my 20 mg Oxycodone for Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 10/325 Which is stronger because the 10/325 isn't working. ## The 20 mg. is 2 times stronger than the 10mg. The 325 part is just Tylenol . The 20 mg is oxycodone which the very strong part that kills your pain . Your Dr. Seems to have cut your pain strength in half. ## @Tessa, I agree with Smith, in that your doctor nearly cut your dose/pain relieving effects in half (even after taking into consideration the 325mgs of Acetaminophen - which is very subtle in my opinion). Subtracting that extra 10mgs of Oxycodone was the biggest alteration and is probably the reason why you're not feeling like the Percocet is working. Well my dr has me takin 10/325 hydrocodone but is switchin me to percoset jus wanted opinion on what was stronger ## The Oxycodone in the Percocet is stronger than the Hydrocodone in the Vicodin, and otherwise they both also contain Acetaminophen to enhance its effectiveness. 10mgs of Hydrocodone is equivalent to 6.67mgs of Oxycodone, so you will probably get better pain relief from the Percocet. Doctor took me off percocet 10's and put me on 12mcg fentanyl patches. Will this help? Is it stronger or weaker and would it only take one to equal the equivalent of a perk 10 or 2 of the oxycodone 5mg ## Hi Julie, To answer your question, 5mgs of Oxycodone quite simply does NOT equate to 10mgs of Oxycodone + 325mgs of Tylenol found in Percocet. Usually when people abbreviate the term "perk 10" this means that it contains 10mgs of Oxycodone and nothing less. So even without the Tylenol it would still be stronger than 5mgs of the same substance. I hope this makes sense! ## Simple math here....5<10 same active ingredient.
