Is Opana Better Than Oxycontin

Whats the difference between exalgo and opana and oxycontin? ## Hello, Dana! How are you? As listed by the FDA, all 3 of these narcotics contain a different active ingredient. Exalgo contains a time released formulation of Hydromorphone. Opana contains Oxymorphone and Oxycontin contains Oxycodone in a time released formulation. All are narcotics that carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. Out of the 3, Exalgo is the strongest, next would be Opana, then Oxycontin. To give you a comparison, for each 5mg of Oxycontin, you'd only need 2.5mgs of Opana to be equivalent and 1.88mgs of Exalgo. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm switching to 3 40mgs a day of Opana ER and hoping it does better than 80mg of OxyContin twice a day. Any advice or info please ## Hello, Timps! How are you? Opana is actually twice as strong as Oxycontin, so you'd only need 80mgs of it daily to equal the 160mgs of Oxycontin that you were taking, thus, taking 120mgs a day will actually be a stronger dose and may provide better pain relief. The 30mgs of Opana, in this case, is the more potent of the two, if that's what you're asking. I have MS and need pain relief. I don't like the stigma oxycontin has to it. I simply don't find it helpful. Is Opana a good substitute? I take 5 mg of oxycodone for breakthrough pain but sometimes it is not enough. If I don't deal with the pain appropriately I get sicker and more fatigue. I am not familiar with narcotics at all. I have some very painful condition which I am on Oxycontin 30 mg twice a day and 10/325 oxycodone / APAP. I am on disability I am 36 years old and when my medicare kicks in and my drug plan does not cover Oxycontin so I had a list of drugs they would cover and Opana ER is one that is covered and he wants to start me on Opana ER 10 mg he mention fentanyl patches also I am looking for pain relief not the high. Has anybody tried Opana vs OC 80? Any feedback would be helpful. ## What dosage of the Opana? The Oxymorphone in it is actually twice as strong as the Oxycodone, so if you were taking 40mgs of it, then the equivalent dose of Oxycodone would be 80mgs. Both can be effective at controlling pain, it just requires a dosage adjustment. You should also know that there are no more Oxycontin OCs. Purdue has changed the formulation and they are now Oxycontin OP. Are there any questions or comments? I was wounded in Combat. My doc has had me on Oxycontin with Oxycodone for breakthru pain. The Opana is WORLDS better for pain without the euphori. I highly recommend it. ## the Opana is slightly stronger than the oxycontin depending upon the old doseage, the Opana also has hi sedation effects so please be careful if behind a steering wheel

I have spent so much time trying to get my Opana 20mg er and 10 mg ir filled. I had to start sending my scripts to Optum Rx by mail to have them filled. Honestly I've never seen anything like it. I didn't even have this much trouble getting Oxycotin and Oxycodone filled. My insurance co didn't want to pay for my oxycodone anymore so they suggested I change to Opana. The first couple of months it was ok but then I don't know what happened but when I said I couldn't get them filled anywhere I meant it. I am currently on 4 30mg oxycodone ir a day and 2 2mg dillaudid a day and the oxycodone only last 2 hours and the dilaudid doesn't work at all.I've had 2 major surgeries and I'm I'm only 24 and day in day out in extreme constant pain. My question is would switching to OxyContin the new formula be as effective or would swithing to opana be better? I've had steroid inj's. with good results till now. Usually with bed rest I'm better in a few day but with this disk the pain had been so intense and the numbness on my foot is getting worse. Usually Aleve helps but now even the Tylenol 4 doesn't help and spasms on my leg have gotten worse. I don't want more surgery, 6 is enough. the old oxys were better when on the new ones it got worse why change it?on opana er 30's was onoxy 60s opana DOES NOTHING WHY? ## what does a roxi 224 look like ## Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone and it is very effective for some people, but like any medication, it doesn't work for everyone. Have you tried talking to your doctor to see what else you can try? If the new Oxycontin formulation isn't working for you, perhaps you should try MS Contin? It is a form of time released Morphine. The 30mg Oxycodone pill with the marking 224 on it should be round and blue, with the 224 on one side. It is a generic for Roxicodone, which is a regular release formulation. QI am looking for a good mild/moderate narcotic for break through pain . I am allready on hydro/norco 10/325 and it only las about 3-4 hours and thenn wears off. Any sugestions.
