little white pill persribed for nerves ## I am taking a half of a 1 mg Ativan pill for sleeping. Can this small amount become addictive? ## Ativan contains the active ingredient Lorazepam, this is a Benzodiazepine and these can be highly addictive. However, if you are using it as prescribed, then what you are really going to have to deal with is dependence, rather than addiction. Dependence occurs when your body becomes used to and reliant upon some substance. This can happen with anything you ingest regularly, even a routine morning cup of orange juice. If you stop ingesting it, suddenly, they you will experience some withdrawal symptoms, but nothing as severe as if you were abusing the medication. Ativan Vs Xanax
6 Replies RSS
If Xanax and Ativan are both benzodiazapines, why did the Ativan work to relieve anxiety without causing depression but the Xanax didn't? ## It really depends on the person and how your body reacts to it. Just as an example, I'm fine with a low dose .5mg of Ativan, but if I take anything higher it makes me depressed and I feel very groggy for several days afterwards. However, there are other people that use it just fine without any problems. You really just have to figure out what works for you. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Thank you for the information. It was helpful. How long have you taken Ativan? I also experienced the mild depression when I took a bit extra. I hate drugs and don't have an addictive nature. However, I am a little afraid of getting off a... ...

I've been on 1mg Ativan for at least 15 years that I take at night before bed. I tried to quit a couple of years ago and ended up in the doctors office 2 days later only to learn I can't just stop taking it. I'm just thankful I didn't take 3 a day as prescribed. What is the best way to stop taking this medication? ## Check out the Ashton manual. Unfortunately benzodiazepines surprise patients with how difficult they can be to withdraw and most prescribers don't give informed consent. Good luck. ## Usually you have to do a very gradual taper to safely stop taking this class of medications. Your doctor should be able to help you set up a safe tapering schedule for you. But do not try stopping it cold turkey, again, as that can create the risk of dangerous seizures, acc... ...

3 mg xanax daily vs ativan 2 mg daily combining benzoate
1 Reply RSS
I have been on benzoate for 15 years and the 3 mg xanax er was working great until the generic was changed on me by the pharmacy. I have been asked to try 1 mg ativan twice daily and my anxiety and panic kicks in that if I say these work and then they don't I won't be able to function. Are these the same and if not how do I get my dr to keep me on the best meds for me and my chemistry. Is there a way to find a generic specific, where the fillers do not affect the half life of my meds? Also I never sleep and I know this just adds to the anxiety then the panic. Any advice? When I take the ER it works as long as I have a .5 to take as needed. Which seems to be in the evening. How do I explain to my dr that the combination works, without it being a concern that I'm just trying t... ...

Family member was in ER for alcohol detox and was peaceful and easy going. Member began to have shakes and was given Ativan in an IV. Member became very irritated and aggressive. Member had to be restrained and Ativan was increased. Upon increase, member became violent and had to be restrained by 4 young security guards. Member was then taken to ICU and given propofol and a respirator was employed. What is in this stuff that set this member off ## Hello, Marty! How are you? It was probably the alcohol detox and not the Ativan, to be honest, though there is a small chance it was the combination of both. It tends to cause an initial spaciness in people who have not adjusted to taking the med, or have recently experienced a dosage change. These type of side effects usually wear off in about 2 weeks, give or take a few days to account for a person's individual body chemistry and the way it may process a medication.
