i am now taking morphine sulfate 30 mg er tabs, and oxycodone 30 mg ir tabs morphine1 tablet every 8 hours and 1 tablet of oxycodone every 8 hours.but when waking up in the morning i have these terrible bad headache. i almost have to vomit. is that to happen? thanks sharon ## Hi Sharon, To answer your first question, Oxycodone is said to be approximately 1.5x as potent on a milligram to milligram basis. My pain specialist had me on 40 mg Opana ER and 15 mg Morphine Sulfate IR for 8 years. I had to find another doctor and starting next week I will be taking 30 mg Oxymorphone ER every 12 hours and 10 mg Oxycodone IR up to 3 per day. Does anyone know if 2 15mg morphine tabs would be equal to 1 30mg oxycodone. Both are immediate release. Both are narcotics, so you should make sure that you aren't taking more than your doctor has prescribed, because they can cause depression of the central nervous system, as well as respiratory depression. I find it ridiculous that sooo many people are messing around with schedule II narcotics yet have no clue to the potency, side effects, drug interactions, etc.. are you people not adults? Oxy is indeed a good 1.5% stronger than morphine and not at all subtle like morphine.. Most doses of Oxy that are between 15-30 mg are IR's not ER (extended release like most morphine)... I wonder what the difference is between 15MG MS Contin vs 15 Mg Oxycodone. Is there a substitute for MS Morphine..I take 2 30mg MS Contin twice a day and also with that I take 15MG MS Contin twice per day..which of course is 45mgs at a time..with 3 15mg Oxcodone for breakthru pain. I think their efficacy also largely depends on your body chemistry and how well you tolerate each medication (in relation to the severity of your pain). Because this factor is so different for each individual, there's really no ethical way to compare these two medications on a milligram to milligram basis. If you're looking to compare one or the other, I would suggest asking your doctor for a smaller script that you can use as a trial run, just to see how your body responds to each medication.
