I was prescribed hydroxyzine for itching with a bad case of poison ivy. I found that helped with my mild anxiety. Is there anything similar over the counter that I can purchase for the anxiety? Hello, I have taken Hydroxyzine for about a year now. I have found that it works better if I take it at night before bed. I take it for anxiety. I take it at night because it helps me feel more even through out the day. At first I took it only during flare-ups but it was like a roller coaster. Now, occasionally, about one time every 6 weeks, I get an anxiety Flare-up where I have to take an additional dose in the mid morning to settle it down. Is this normal ? What does this mean ? I am 46. Healthy, and some depression kicks in once in a while, I sleep very well and have no other issues. Definitely feel like a mid life crisis. Hi I was wondering if I could take 2-25mg caps of hydroxyzine? I take 1 twice a day but I didn't know if I could take 2 to sleep. Take two tablets by mouth every 6 hours as needed for itching ## What i need to know is what is this medicine for. We ask for something to increase the appitite is this meds for that? ## This is actually an antihistamine, used to treat allergic reactions. It is also commonly used to treat anxiety and similar conditions. I do not see anything listed in the drug info that says it can increase appetite.

But many don't help as much for anxiety, but one over the counter option would be Diphenhydramine and another prescription option would be Promethazine.
