Humira Adalimumab

Adalimumab, sold under the brand name Humira, among others, is a monoclonal antibody used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, plaque psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, uveitis, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.[5][6][7] It is administered by injection under the skin.[5] Common side effects include upper respiratory tract infections, pain at the site o...

Can I do IPL laser treatments to my face if I take Humira? ## Hi Kay, According to the FDA, the only contraindication listed for this medication states that "patients with a known hypersensitivity to Humira or any of its components should not be taking it." Ref: fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/ac/03/briefing/3930B1_02_B-Abbott-Humira%20Prescribing%20Info.pdf However, in this case, if you think that certain side effects or mechanisms of Humira could potentially increase your risk of being overly sensitive to the laster treatments, I would just suggest talking to your dermatologist first before moving forward with the procedure. I hope this helps!

My 10 year old little girl has been on humira for 2 years , injected every 2weeks , her health ( joints ) are fantastic but now I have concerning issues on a huge amount of weight gain , my daughter is active (probably over active ! ) diet is balanced , a huge worry is we haven't seen a consultant in over 18 months , obviously due to an over stretched NHS . Now the issue is what she looks like , and my fear of other ailments and mental issues occurring, surely there is some other alternative , in our day and age ! I have researched and weight gain is a definite side effect in many users . She was diagnosed almost 5 years ago and has been on other meds such as methotrexate, and infliximab , these may I point out had no weight gaining affects, I'm a single mum whom is very concern...

Has anyone taken humira for TMJ arthritis. ## Hello, Sanela! How are you? TMJ is a stress disorder of the jaw joint, which isn't usually related to arthritis, so an arthritis medication would not usually be used. Do you have arthritis in some form that may be causing some jaw pain? Or do you just have the TMJ? Has your doctor suggested trying Humira? ## Hi there, Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) occur as a result of problems with the jaw, jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw. These disorders are often incorrectly called TMJ, which stands for temporomandibular joint. My son has TMJ arthritis. He's been diagnosed with JA when he was 2 (he is 18 now); mostly had his knees, ankles affected. For the past several , it is his TMJ. And yes, h...

I've been taking Humira for about three years. I recently caught my first bacterial infection. It is called campylobacter. I was told by doctor that campylobacter is a common bacteria but because of my compromised immune system due to humira use the bacteria invaded my system and made me very ill. Easily conquered with anti biotics but not pleasant at all. Severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fever of 103 for about 5 days and dehydration. I believe I got the bacteria from a deli sandwich but am not entirely sure but that was the only thing I ate the day before my symptoms started. I was in quarantine in the hospital for 5 days. This is the only bacterial infection that I have come across during the three years I have taken Humira. ## Hello, Patti! How are you feeling? I'm ve...

Does anyone know if I can get flu jab.while on Humira.? ## Yes, I have been on Humira and get a flu shot every year. I understand you can get the shot ,but not the vaccine that is administered through the nose. ## Yes. My doctor at Mayo insisted. From all I’ve read- all get an appointment at Mayo Clinic they’ll get you hooked up with a support nurse at Humira. I’m in my fourth month for Crohns- soooo much better but wish I could talk to others to compare notes.

I have been on humira for 14 months along with mtx. I have yet to see any improvement. I feel like I'm getting worse actually. I use a cane to walk. My elbow & knees hurt so bad to touch the bed to sleep. It keeps me awake at night. I am relying on ibp & oxycodone every 6 hrs to try & move. I have an appointment with my rheumatologist in 2 weeks &hoping for a change in medication. I assume I should have seen some relief by now. Anyone else take it so long without relief? ## Hello, Lisa! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain. Yes, I think that after 14 months, if there's no improvement, it is time to move on and try something else. Can anyone that's been on it chime in with their experiences? The FDA lists the typical side effects of...

I have been on Humira for about 5 years and it has been a life saver. In the past 3 months or so I've found that it would only help for 10 - 12 days instead of the 2 week cycle I've have been on. Now I'm down to about 80% effectiveness and only helps for about a week. Has anyone experience a resistance to the drug after a period of time? ## Hello, Richard! How are you? It is normal for that to happen with any medication that you are on for a long period of time, it can vary from person to person, so there is no time frame that can be given. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may have an idea on how to help you. ## Yes. At least that's what I feel is happening along with random pains in my legs mostly my thighs. I have had fibramalasia symptoms but typica...

I was on humira injections to treat my complex perianal fistulating crohns disease. It was great until I came out of remission and had reaccurring flares of infection. Infliximab was the reccomended treatment to go on with. There was a period of 4 weeks between treatments and during that time I developed excruciating lower leg pain and can barely walk. They burn and throb even when I'm not walking. My head aches and I feel worse now than before I stopped the humira. I had my first infliximab infusion yesterday and feel like I.ve been run down by a bus. Can anyone out there relate to this? ## Those can be side effects of Remicade, which contains Infliximab, and the warnings advise you to consult your doctor about it. Other issues may include bleeding, tiredness, bruising, fever, and ...

Hi! So I'm 25 and I've had RA since I was 6. I'm seeing fantastic improvement in my joint with only two injections. I have been having a ton of side effects, I'm getting horrible muscle cramps to the point I had to go to the ER. The latest thing is my latest period. It's horribly painful and it's excessively heavy (not to get too graphic) is this normal or something to be concerned about? I've tried just about everything for my RA and this is the first relief I've ever had but the cramps and the muscle pains are horrible. ## Hello, Monica! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems you're having. Yes, Humira can cause those types of issues as side effects. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, diarrhea, sinusitis and rash. Have...

I am travelling to Australia for one year in the next few weeks. I have 5 pens that will keep me going but was wondering if anyone knew the cost of the pens in Australia or if there was any scheme available over there which would cover costs for Humira patients?? Just curious, I've been on Humira for almost 2 years. Has anyone had issues with low iron or low red blood cell counts? ## Hello, Denise! How are you feeling? The FDA warns about the possibility of developing various blood abnormalities, while on Humira. Other side effects may possibly include flu like symptoms, back pain, sinusitis and hypertension. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've been taking Humira for over a year now for Uveitis. I just found out I am expecting. Has anyone taken Humira throughout a pregnancy? If yes, were there any complications along the way? I am concerned about the unborn baby and would love some insight! ## Humira (adalimumab) is classified under pregnancy category B. This means that animal reproductive studies have shown adverse effects to the fetus, however no adequate and well-controlled studies have been done in humans - and that depending upon your situation, the benefits may outweigh potential risk factors. That all said, it may come down to discussing this more in depth with your prescribing doctor to help you make the most informed decision based on your medical history. Hope this helps!

I'm a 42 year old male that was dx with RA about 1.5 years ago. Initial treatment was methotrexate but had lived issues. I've been on Humira for three months and it has all but wiped out my joint pain and I feel great except for my left jaw and ear. Jaw and ear pain and teeth/bite shifting started at about week three and has been intermintent since. Ear pain has decreased over that time and jaw pain is hit or miss and seems to come on with out rhyme or reason. It's bad enough right not that it woke me up. Had my last apt with my RA doc last week and mentioned the pain and he did not seem concerned or think that it is either Humira or RA related. I've never had issues like this prior and Humira is the only change. Any ideas/similar experiences etc? I would hate to have to...

I was on Enbrel for yrs when it stopped being effective, my dr switched me to Humira. First injection went fine. As my aches got worse (until it kicks in) I was anxious for my second injection. Yes they sting pretty bad but not as bad as the RA. I am greatful for the meds. After the second injection, I noticed the first injection sight was red and puffy. Do I need to worry? I just want it to work! ## You should probably have it looked at, to be sure. It seems odd that a new injection would cause a reaction at the old site. How close were they administered? ## I had the same happen. I called Humira and they had never heard of it. I've been on it 3 months now. That was the only time it happened. I was letting it sit out to room temp. It doesn't tell you to. Believe it or not it di...

I have a question I'm having a pretty bad period pain and cramp wise and I was wondering if I should wait and take my Humira after it's over? Has anyone ever taking it while having a bad period and been ok? I have been on it for about eight months and have done fine this is just a painful menses so I'm concerned. Thank you for your input. I know my doctor will just say to take it so I'm coming to ask you all for your nonbiased opinion ## @Mamayogi, I haven't come across any specific details stating that you can't take Humira during your period. However it is important to note that this medication can cause changes within your menstrual cycle; including but not limited to abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge as a potential side effect. But if you seem to be doin...

Lately I have been getting blood blisters' under my skin, just as I was typing I happened to look at my wrists and noticed a blister, I honestly do not know if this means another blister is going to take place. These blood blisters' at present are on my wrist's, there is no itch although I just used my Humira 2 days ago and today I am not feeling at my best so I'm not sure what is going on. If anyone else has received these blisters' and have perhaps gotten an answer from your Physician or Dermatologist. I hope someone is able to assist me. IPlease help. In 5 weeks I'm taking an extended motoring holiday of Europe and will sometimes not have refrigeration available. I need a method which does not involve ice of keeping my humira syringes between 3-8degrees for up to 24hrs. I've spoken to Abbott Australasia reps twice and was extremely disappointed that they could not advise me on how to successfully travel with humira :) for this period of time. From other internet sites, I was recommended FRIO travel wallet/pack but it seems FRIO doesn't achieve 3-8degrees. I can't be the only one to have this problem. Any and all advice very welcome. Many thanks Annie ## I'm sorry about the problems you are having, but in reality planning such travel and trying to keep a medication at precise temperatures really isn&#...
