How To Write A Prescription For Hydrocodone

My patient has recently had two (2) toes removed and he has extreme bad pain in his right foot. If you could help him out and get the right pain medication what would you recommend? ## Ideally, only a qualified physician who's examined the patient in person and reviewed their medical history can make an appropriate judgement call on adequate treatment for something like this. However from a layman's (outside) perspective it would seem that starting off with something mid-level in strength would allow for substantial wiggle room in the dosage and/or type of narcotic analgesic being administered. In my personal opinion based solely off observation (not having had any of my toes removed and can't fathom the amount of pain that might ensue) a moderate dose of hydrocodone appears...

I have a prescription for hydrocodone 'take one every 8 hours as needed' qty 60. Got them to take instead of tramadol when I'm in a lot of pain. Last week & 1/2, I've been having major pain and the dr said I could take them every 6 hours til we get worked through this. So, I'm sure I'll run out, as I'm already getting low, before the monthly refill of all my meds. Since this is only a qty of 60, how soon can I get it refilled, as the dr. told me to try that first but if they wouldn't let me, he'd write a new script. ## Since this is a controlled substance, due to the Hydrocodone in it, which is a narcotic, the pharmacy can't legally fill it for you, until it is actually due for a refill. Federal law prohibits them from doing so. They may fill ...

I was prescribed to take 1-2 Norco every 8 hours as needed for pain. How long should they last me before my next prescription? Thanks ## Hi Tee - would you happen to know how many tablets in total are in the prescription bottle? Based on what you have said so far, 1 tablet every 8 hours is 3 tablets per day. So, that's about 90 tablets per month. Could you write back with how many tablets are in the entire prescription? ## If you are taking 2 tablet every 8 hours, that is six tablets a day. Divide the number of tablets the prescription is for by the number of tablets you take a day. Or you can look on the information sheet from the pharmacy. It should have how many days the prescription should last. ## I just had surgery and the dr wrote me a prescription for 40 hydrocodone (taking ...

I had a spinal during csection it didn't go well and my back is in constant pain it's so bad I cry myself to sleep ## The best thing to do is go to you primary care Dr or obgyn. Let him know what is going on with you ask him if he can write you a prescription for pain order x-rays, mri's , c-t scan and refer you to a pain clinic. How long has it been since your csection? If not long and you are in that much pain I would consider ER. Seeing it is saturday so they can rule out any injury to bones, spinal cord , or nerves . Also they will help u with pain meds for a few days. Can't say for sure if it will be hydrocodone but if the pain is that bad they will give you a pain shot or pain pill so you have relief before you leave.

My doctor writes my prescription for Hydrodcod/Acetam 5-325 and the maker is Watson. When the drug store filled it last week it has M365 on the pill. I have taken three on three different days and noticed there was no relief. I took one pill 3 hrs ago and there has been no relief. That is the reason I took a pill out of the bottle and found the M365 stamped on the pill. If they are suppose to be the same - why is the pain still there? ## The M365 pills are indeed hydrocodone (5mg) + acetaminophen (325mg); however it may be that certain binders/fillers in these tablets affect bioavailability or how well they get absorbed into your system vs the other brand you're used to taking. If I were in this position, I'd probably see if the prescribing doctor could specify a particular manu...

Is Lortab the brand name for Hydrocodone 7.5/325? Or is it Norco, Vicodin, or what? ## The one with 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen would be a generic for Norco, it's the only name brand that has that strength available. However, in most cases they are all just used interchangeable, as long as the medication contains those 2 active ingredients, so you may hear or see it being referred to as any one of the 3. Learn more Norco details here. Many doctors just write the prescriptions as Vicodin and then designate the dosage, because the pharmacy will dispense the correct ones and disregard that they may have used the wrong brand name. Is there anything else I can help with? ## How many days can you get a refill on your prescription hydrocodone acetaminophen 7.5-325 qua...

i do not get relief from this pain medicine, what is the deal ## Hi baby, Unfortunately when it comes to choosing an appropriate pain medication, there's a lot of room for trial and error. If your body is accustomed to another manufacturer's versions of this, then its ineffectiveness may be attributed to the different binders/fillers that are being used in this particular tablet versus others. That's my theory anyways, given that nothing else is changed on the label when you switch between different manufacturer's brands/generics. The only thing I'd encourage patients to do in light of this, is to kindly ask the doctor to be more descriptive on the prescription he/she writes, in order to pick out a specific manufacturer that you feel works best from past personal exp...

I have taken Lorecet 10 for quite sometime. They were always blue in color but the last time I got them they were made by Watson and were white. I have nonstop itching with the white. Why? ## Hi, Taylor! Sorry about the problem you're having. And I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. So far, they claim to have only removed the dye, but many people are reporting experiencing odd side effects, or less effectiveness, which makes it seem that more has been changed. Learn more Lorcet details here. Have you alerted your doctor to the problem? They may need to write your prescription so no substitutions can be made and you can only be given the name brand.

My daughter had surgery on Wednesday last week and was prescribed hydrocodone/acetaminophen 7.5/325 15 ml every 4 hrs for pain. How many days should that last? ## Hello, Meg! How are you? I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question without more information. How much is in the bottle? Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## My mom was prescribed liquid oxcycodone 5 mg/5 ml an quanity of 473 how many pills would that be an which is better the liquid or pill form?? ## Is there a difference the way the doctor writes the prescription for my actaminophen/hydrocodone or should i...

I recently moved to Houston and have no idea where to look for a doctor, especially one who will write a prescription for pain medication without making you feel like a drug head. Just like many many other people I have sciatica & a degenerative disc in my back. I can usually tolerate the occasional flair ups with just Motrin but the pain that usually lasts for a day or so has been constant for over a week and Motrin and Tylenol around the clock have not helped at all. Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ## Hi , I myself am new here and found a great doctor at houston pain centers in Sugar Land Texas. I suffer from chronic back pain. When I take Vicodin I seem to get quicker relief than when I take the same dosage of Hydrocodone. My doctor says there is no difference between the two pills Is it all in my head ## Hello, Nuts! How are you? Sorry about the problem that you're having. There can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient in some generic medications. For most people, the difference is therapeutically insignificant, but some are sensitive to any change and may experience problems or ineffectiveness. So yes, they are the same, but there may be enough of a difference to prevent it from working well for you. Learn more Vicodin details here. You could try asking your doctor to write your prescription so the pharmacy has to provide you with the brand name....

Look up local docs. Make an appointment: propublica.org/atpropublica/item/whos-prescribing-the-most-hydrocodone-in-your-area ## This info is from 2011. It is for rxs that a drs writes to Medicare patients who have Prescription Part D. Many of these patients are very ill with chronic health problems. This info is not an indicator of what rxs a dr will write to new patients who may not have the serious illnesses that other patients do and who may not be as old as other patients. Many of these drs work in hospital Emergency Rooms. Which also accounts for the high number of certain rxs they may write. Medicare is in the process of cracking down on pain meds that are wrtten for non cancer related pain.

I went to a pain management dr. I ve had hystorectomy and have been on 10mg / 325 norco. I moved back to florida from New Mexico. Having severe back problems urinary incontinence and etc I went to a Pcp. He gave me 5/325 120 count hydrocodone. Yesterday I went to pain management . Told him I was already on this and it wasn't working. He wrote me 90 7.5/325 and said that's what I needed to take. Get to pharmacy and pharmacy voids script per the doctors Orders. I told the truth. ? What's happening here ? Help! ## What isn't making sense to me here is that the doctor would write you the new prescription, then immediately tell the pharmacy not to fill it. Have you confirmed this with the doctor? Or are you just taking the word of the pharmacy? Sometimes pharmacies are guilty...

I have a question about my medication prescription, my dr had me on 240 10/325 generic Norco (hydrocodone) a month (1-2 every 4-6 hours max dose of 8) he recently needed to bump up the quantity to 270 (9 a day) but apparently my insurance only covers 240 a month. I was wondering if it was possible that the dr could write me the script for the 270 and the pharmacist charge my insurance for 240 of the prescription and charge me for the other 30 or if it all has to be charged to either insurance or me. I live in NY state, any info would be greatly appreciated! ## No, I don't think that will help. There is actually a limit on how much your pharmacy can give you each month and it doesn't matter if your doctor writes the prescription for more. There are government regulations that dic...

What does 10-5 mean on Lortabs? My prescription doesn't seem to be working for my pain and I was wondering if it meant Lortab 10 mg or Lortab 5 mg. So if it is 5 I can get a stronger MG ## What it seems to be is that your doctor was prescribing the tablets with 10mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen. I could be wrong, since I am not a medical professional, but I have seen it abbreviated this way before, from other similar posts. And no, a doctor cannot write it as an either/or prescription and let you pick which one you want, even if they tried, no pharmacy would fill it that way. More than likely, they will call your doctor to double check the prescription, to be certain of what exactly they are supposed to dispense to you. If your current dosage is not working for your p...

Can she refill it one week early? its written for 2 per day but recently had some issues she is aware of that caused more pain so am now out ## Hello, Chele! How are you? She'd have to write a new prescription for you changing the dosage. It won't be able to be filled early the current way that it's written.
