My mom has been battling stage 3 Salivary glad cancer for 5 years. She is terminal. Lately there has been 2 seisures due to low potassium. She is on pain management of 53 mg/ml/hr of hydromorphone iv . Is this too much? ## Hello, Dwaycott! How is your mom doing? When it comes to pain relief, it is best to leave the dosing up to her doctors. I understand your concern, but there are many medical studies that have shown that higher doses of narcotics to make the people more comfortable in such situations don't hasten death. I am so very sorry that she is terminal, my dad is as well, so don't think I am taking this lightly…. but there is a point where their comfort has to become most important. Cancer pain is intractable when it hits the terminal stage, you can't even begi...

Common side effects to it may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. Learn more: Are ther...

Is hydromorphone the same as dilaudid I've. ## @Biglou, Hydromorphone is the generic name for Dilaudid (brand name), so yes, they are the same drug in that sense. However not all dosage forms are IV-based. For example, I've seen 4mg Dilaudid tablets in person and have also heard of patients taking 2 to 8mg tablets throughout this forum. One other thing to note is that they do make a brand called "Dilaudid-HP" (Hydromorphone Hydrochloride Inj.) which is marketed for intravenous use. Although, I have yet to find out if there is a generic form of the IV as well. Hope this helps answer your question! ## Regarding the post of Hydromorphine IV and dilaudulid: they are the same medication. I was on Dilaudid, (generic name) Exalgo ER 8 mg oral for chronic pain. While in hospital...

I get sick on the hydromorphone made by Mallinckrodt. Can anyone recommend a different and better manufacturer? ## Any except Arobindo brands. I have received Mallinckrodt Adderall that were so weak I had to double the dose to get it to work. And I usually take half the recommended dose of other brands. Aurobindo is the only manufacturer that I have found that’s worse than Mallinckrodt. Something in those meds makes me physically ill. ## All generic meds have fillers. That’s probably the reason you get “sick”. You should try taking your med with a meal, A small meal would suffice. ## Nausea, and dizziness can be side effects of narcotic analgesics, such as Hydromorphone, so there is also a chance that it just isn't the right medication for you. Other side eff...

I have been on Oxycodone 30 mg IR for more than ten years and it has worked fine. Now my doctor has changed to Hydromorphone 8 mg that doesn't work. Can my doctor make me change my pain meds? ## Is that morphine? Morphine didn’t work for me. They switched me from 5 mg oxycodone 4x a day to 15 mg er morphine and it was awful. Yes they can make you switch, but if you can come up with some legitimate side effects they may switch you back. When someone tried to make me take oxycontin instead of oxycodone I didn’t even feel safe to drive it was so strong. The doctor let me switch back. I don’t want meds that make me LESS functional. ## No, it is different than Morphine, though still related to it. Hydromorphone is stronger than Oxycodone, you only need 7mgs of it to equ...

I have read various different precautions about using this drug intravenously. Some say that without using a micron filter you run the risk of losing your arm due to a microcrystalline cellulose compound found in the drug, I guess as a tamper prof method. That seems cruel knowing addicts will abuse anything if the possibility it will make them high. they also say this compound is not water soluble so does that mean once water is added that compound would not enter the needle and stay at the bottom? Others say its fine. My other main question is what does the pms in pms-hydromorphone stand for and is it related to that cellulose compound? ## PMS is the manufacturer. It's pharmascience. ## What does the letters PMS- in Meds PMS-Hydromothone mean please!

I have an alleged 8mg hydromorphone tablet that has 54 on one side with 425 under that and scored on the other side. ## Indeed, what you have there is a relatively expensive 8mg instant release hydromorphone hydrochloride, made in US, forgive me but I have forgotten the maker. Not Abbott Dilaudid brand, which are sorta rounded triangular shape with Abbott logo obverse and large '8' reverse. As are the most excellent ones by Covidien, under their Mallinckrodt label, only difference being the logo, a capital M in a square. Have not tried your 54 425 pills but they are reputedly of highest quality. Palladone 2.6mg capsules are the strongest instant hydromorph available where I live and are not often prescribed, Palladone SR 12-hour formulation being preferred, though for some reaso...

do they make dalata pills ## The correct medication name it is Dilaudid, it is a powerful narcotic that contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. And yes, it does come in tablet form. What drug should I try because the oxycodone is making me sick? ## Hi Cartel, Sorry to hear about your Oxycodone intolerance. There are a variety of pain medications on the market that you could ask your doctor about trying instead of Oxycodone. However it's important to understand that there's really no way of knowing ahead of time how something else might end up affecting you as well, until you give it a shot and see how you like it. Depending on what your doctor recommends, some other options may include medications like Hydrocodone/Apap, Morphine sulfate, or Hydromorphone. Do you think the sick feeling could be because of a problem with the dosage being too high or perhaps just a side effect of the drug itself?

I have been loosing teeth (they r rotting and then falling out. Could this be from taking exalgo(hydromorphone) 32mg re for the 4 years ## Yes, it certainly could be. Opiate medications cause dry mouth, which allows bacteria that cause decay to remain on your teeth longer than usual, your saliva is typically a big help in washing some of it away. Additionally, they tend to leech minerals from the body, such as vitamin D and calcium, which can cause your teeth to become softer, so they decay easier. The NIH and FDA have several studies and articles available about this. You may want to speak to your dentist about doing some fluoride treatments and then putting a sealant on them to help prevent damage. Another good idea would be to keep your mouth more moist, frequent sips of water, or su...

Is this drug a narcotic is it stronger than hydrcodone ## It is absolutely more potent. Maybe 10 times as potent depending on various barometers ## Hello, Chocolate! How are you? The capsule in question is not an Opana/Hydromorphone tablet. The capsule with the WATSON 3546 marking contains 325mgs of Aspirin, 50mgs of Butalbital, 40mgs of Caffeine and 30mgs of Codeine, which makes it a very weak narcotic that's mainly used to treat or prevent migraine headaches. Learn more Fioricet details here. Learn more Codeine details here. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Comparing Codeine to Hydrocodone…. you'd only need 4.5mgs of Hydrocodone to be eq...

IF ANYBODY KNOWS ABOUT THEDRUGS LIKE VIAGRA AND PROPECIA PLAY INTO A HEAY OPIATE I NEED TO HEAR ABOUT IT, CAN YOU IMAGINE THE LIFT OF A FINANCIAL BURDEN THAT MAKES YOU HAVE TO DECIDE TO PAY RENT OR TREAT YOUR PAIN. ## Not a prescription medication for pain. Is it something available over the counter? What country are you in? ## There is MXL, which is MST Continus but in a 24 hours formulation and not the usual 12 hour one; that, however, is NOT an imprint associated with that drug. The only other 24 hour opioid I know of is JURNISTA hydromorphone, which comes in 32 and 64mg strengths but are a kind of plastic pump operated tablet meant to be abuse-proof, and increasingly used in South and East Europe, mainly as a substitute for recreational users of street opiates. Again, that imprint i...

pharmacy says they are the same as 54 609 but make me feel different and can't find listing for them anywhere ,supposed to be 4mg hydromorphone. ## 54 609 contains 4mgs of Hydromorphone, a generic for Dialudid, a narcotic analgesic. I cannot find a listing for the 54 196 anywhere, either. However, if they are made by a different company, the amount of the active ingredient could vary slightly and this may explain why they make you feel different. Have you tried taking them into the pharmacy and asking them to double check the prescription for you? Common side effects of this medication may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and dizziness. If i just take one, will it make me go to sleep? or will i feel fine or out of it?? i dont wanna take it at the wrong time.. ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, which is a very potent narcotic. I can cause the side effects you mentioned, but there is really no way for anyone to say how it is going to affect you. It can vary from person to person and depends on your tolerance to narcotics. what is the difference between the yellow dialudid and the white ones ## It depends which ones you are talking about, since the colors don't actually mean anything. However, there are some companies that make a generic version and they use different colors for their tablets, to make them easier to tell apart. Though it is the marking on the tablets that actually denote what they are and not the colors. For example: There are Hydromorphone tablets marked with an M on one side and a number designating the dosage on the other side, either a 2 or a 4, but they are both white tablets. There are also some that are blue, with an E 2 marking the 2mg and the same company has a beige one for the 4mg. There is another company that has a yellow tablet with the marking 7574 that is a 4mg tablet,...

medium white tablet with a M that has a square around it and a 4 on the back ## Pill Image This is NOT Dilaudid, that would be Hydromorphone. This pill is a generic version of Tylenol with Codeine, it contains Acetaminophen 300mgs and Codeine 60mgs. It is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. ## But an easy mistake to make. Mallinckrodt does make a generic 4 mg hydromorphone tablet. It is round, white, 5/16 diameter. Imprinted with block M on one side, 4 on the other. However, the hydromorphone does NOT have a box around the M like the codeine does.

i need to know what a dilaudid prescription looks like to make sure my doctor gave me the right medication ## Look for these two words, Dilaudid or hydromorphone. Hydromorphone has a couple dozen different appearances (based on different manufacturers and doses).

Do they still make the yellow 4 mg dilauded and if they do what's the nsme brand ## Hello, Kurt! How are you? Dilaudid is the brand name, the generic would be Hydromorphone. And there are several yellow 4mg tablets, so I'm not sure which one you're looking for, without knowing more information. Do you remember any other details about it?

I desperately need & want to get off of diladids. I have to have xannax for panic disorder n im scared of the problems with mixing the two. I take .5mg of xannax 1 to 2 times a day. N have been taking nuerontin for nerve damage & in replace of my antidepressant. So how safe is my medications going to be with the suboxin? I HAVE got to quit these diladids! ## Hydromorphone is nasty stuff. These are questions you want to ask the Doctor! ## Some doctors that tread with Suboxone won't let you continue Xanax, while under treatment, since it can also be addictive. They will usually make you switch to one of the antidepressants that can treat panic and anxiety attacks. But how much Dilaudid have you been taking? Suboxone is only appropriate for heavy addiction.
