Is Ilvitrim Suspension good for my HIV negative baby? The doctor prescribe it while she was having a short breath problem. Thanks ## Hi Fanyana, Based on my research, Ilvitrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim; a sulfonamide antibacterial combination that is used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. (not just limited to HIV). If your child's doctor prescribed it for what appears to be an upper respiratory or sinus related infection, Ilvitrim does sound like an appropriate medication for the job. However if you're asking whether or not a powerful antibiotic like this is good for your baby, my personal answer would be no, due to it's high risk of side effects. Hello. My Daughter is 7 days old and I took her to the GP she had terrible gramps and Diarrhea the Dr gave her Ilvitrim Suspension? Is this safe for her?? ## My baby is hiv negative but given ilvitrim suspension, I don't understand why ## Ilvitrim is just an antibiotic, it is used to treat or prevent bacterial infections, so it can be taken even if someone is not HIV positive. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. If your child has an infection and the doctor has prescribed this, it is best to give it to them, as instructed. Letting an infection continue untreated may be life threatening. Is there anything else I can help with?

My child tested negative twice and I am positive. She is on ilvitrim suspension but I can't provide enough breast milk for her and I have since started feeding her using my breadtmilk and breastfeeding at the same time. I am hiv positive but started arvs in 2012. So last year (2014) I gave birth and she was given legram. At 6 weeks she was tested & given ilvitrim. So what is the dosage per day for a 1 month & 3 week old baby?
