And usually for drugs like this, the safest way to stop taking them is to taper off them under a doctor's supervision, if possible. I've been going to pain management for over six years now. The main doctor over all of his pain management centers got into trouble and decided to take everyone off of methadone and fentanyl. Well I was on 60mg a day for six years. They have been doing a medication rotation on me since then. This is the first month they took the last 30mg of methadone away from me. I am on 40mg of oxycontin three times a day and 15 mg of oxycodone three times a day for breakthrough pain. I'm sure I will have a urine done next month. I took Methadone 120 mg 2 years ago. Now I'm down to 28 mg. You have to be strong and willing to come clean. It hurts, but you`ll get used to it. Every week I take at least 2 mg off, sometimes more. When it gets too painful I help myself with, vitamins A, D and C, magnesium, liver vitamins and some Benzodiazepines, but not long, just a week. Then my body gets used to it and I keep taking the dose. When I feel okay again, I take less again, until it is gone. The finish is harder and you need all the help you can get, vitamins, immune system protection, magnesium, lots of fluids and sometimes a salt solution in veins, for the night.
