I started amoxicillin 100 mg 2 days ago for a sinus infection. All of a sudden I have lower back pain. I read this was one side effect. It came up all a sudden. I stopped taking it. I can't sleep or walk much because of the pain ## Hello, Julie! How are you? I'n very sorry about how you're feeling. It is odd for it to cause such severe pain. However, it should only take a couple days for things to settle back down, since you were on it for such a short period of time. However, if you have an infection that requires treatment, you should return to your doctor, so they can prescribe a different antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help w...

The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a two year old prescription of amoxicillin from the dentist that I barely even touched. Now I'm showing syptoms of an UTI because I never drink any water. Would it be safe to take now? ## Hello Mike! How are you feeling? The first step to take would be to start drinking some water regularly. It is actually a misconception that you need to drink 8 8ounce glasses a day. That is the total amount of fluid your body needs for the day, but you do get a lot of it from your food and other beverages, so even adding just a glass or two of water can help. It is especially important for flushing out your kidneys, if you continue to avoid water, you may find yourself in kidney failure eventually. As to the Amoxicillin, medications lose effectiveness over time, so it will most likely not b...

What can I take to counteract it? ## There is a risk that you might be experiencing an allergic reaction, according to NIH warnings, so it would be best to consult your doctor, you may need to switch to a different medication. Other symptoms of an allergic reaction may include body swelling, extreme dizziness, and trouble breathing. Did you experience any other symptoms? I have a brand new prescription of teva-amoxicillin. I had a gum infection - within two pills the pain was gone and I have this bottle full.. I now have a temperature with which I believe is due to a chest infection. Will this medication help? ## Amoxicillin is an antibiotic, which can be used to treat many different type of infections. However, you should finish the full course of the medication, as prescribed, even if you start to feel better, before you have finished. The pain may have went away, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the infection cleared up. Thus, you could be sick now, because it was never fully treated and has now spread to other parts of your body. In addition, only taking part of the prescription for an antibiotic creates the very real risk of developing an...

What is the recommend Amoxicillin dosage for a 6 yr old who is 46 lbs? My son is 6 yrs old and has a bad ear infection in one ear. Doctor gave him 500 mg of Amoxicillin 2 times/day, 2 teaspoon (10mg). He weighs 46 lbs. I just think it seems like a lot for his age. Please let me know if it's ok? Thank you! ## Hi Inna, According to an article I found on the site for Livestrong, kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old are usually given 80 to 90 mgs of amoxicillin per kilogram of body weight per day. This is supposed to be divided up into two or three doses and is generally prescribed for about 10 days. Every child may react differently though...so unfortunately I can't say for sure whether this dosing schedule is right for your son. That question seems like it'll be b...

My daughter was given to take 2 1/4 tspoon 2 times per day for 10 days of 250 mg of amoxicillin, is that normal? Or is it too much? ## At that age, it's usually dosed according to body weight and severity of the infection, so you should follow the doctor's prescribing instructions. It may cause some side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Ok I will follow the directions thank you :)

I have been religiously taking Lo Loestrin Fe for 3 years and I recently got strep throat and was prescribed Amoxicillin. I'm in the middle of my pack and on the second day of taking the antibiotic I started a period which I usually don't get. I had unprotected intercourse on the third day and I'm wondering if I can get pregnant from it or if it's worth taking Plan B? I'm really afraid of the side effects of that though. ## Lo Loestrin Fe (norethindrone acetate + ethinyl estradiol) being a form of birth control, should prevent or at least significantly lower the possibility of pregnancy - regardless of whether you're on an antibiotic. Antibiotics may reduce bad (and good) bacteria within the body, but to my understanding should not interact with birth control or ...

Hi. My 2 and a half year old son was prescribed amoxicillin by a doctor at the hospital. I know he said to give it 3 times a day but he never stated whether to give 2.5ml or 5ml. It's got 250mg/5ml on the box. How much should I give him 3 times a day? ## I have my son 3 years old He has infections in hear and noses I don' t have the proper Amoxicillin for a kids, so the one I have is 500mg pills Please how you can assist me ## @Vikki, If it's got 250mg/5mL on the box, then my understanding is that this is the standard dosing protocol to take as instructed. However, according to the MayoClinic, "if the child/infant is older than 3 months of age & weighing less than 40 kg (88lbs), the dose is then based on body weight and must be determined by the prescribing doctor....

I took 10ml of liquid amoxicillin today. Original fill date was 12/17/17 and use by date was 12/27/17. My hands started itching immediately and within the hour my face, ears and neck were bright red and my entire body was itching. Could I have developed an allergic reaction or did this happen because I used after the "use by date"? ## It sounds like you might have developed an allergic reaction. Medications used after the Use By Date are not guaranteed to be as effective as before the date. When a medication has been mixed with water when you buy it from the pharmacy, it is less potent and effective when used after the Use By Date than other medication usually are. ## The information BL provided is correct. Liquids, or creams always tend to degrade much faster than solid forms o...

I am taking amoxicillin for a nose fracture that I got in Greek accident, what is it use for otherwise. ## This is an antibiotic, it is not going to help with a broken bone, nor allergic rashes. It is only effective at treating bacterial infections and improper use of it actually puts you at risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Learn more Amox/Clav details here. It may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Was this prescribed for your fracture?

side efect, rash on skin ## MY DAUGHTER WAS GIVEN THIS DRUG FOR AN EAR INFECTION, TO TAKE FOR 10 DAYS. AFTER 5 DAYS HER VAGINIA LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF RAW MEAT AND HER BODY IS COVERED IN A RASH. HER DR. SAYS THE RASH IS NOT FROM THE DRUG BUT IT MAYBE SCARLET FEVER. HOWEVER SHE IS NOW ON A NEW DRUG STILL FIGHTING EAR INFECTION, STREP THROAT, A RAW VAGINIA, AND SUPPOSELY SCARLET FEVER. GGGRRRR ## All antibiotics are dangerous, some more than others. I have had to go on Amoxicillin Clavulanate again for a bladder infection even though I had a very painful reaction both times (severe joint and muscle pain to point of limping and hanging on the furniture to get to the bathroom, pain in ear and Eustachian tube, nausea, fever). I stopped taking the antibiotic and now my vagina is swallowing ## Hi asia, Did you mean to say swelling as opposed to swallowing? If so... there's a possibility you could be suffering from a yeast infection (which is common after taking antibiotics). You could have also had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Have you ever had this problem before? I recommend supplementing with a probiotic to reinstate good bacteria into your body. Eating sugar free yogurt with honey could help too (sugar free is best because the sugar may cause more yeast infection problems). Yogurt, as well as kefir, is full of good bacteria that can help build your immune system. If the swelling gets worse, please see a doctor as soon as possible! I hope this helps.

I'm allergic to prepav and possibly amoxicillin and just took one pill of augmentin. Could this cause an allergic reaction? ## Hello, Jess! How are you? I'm sorry, I'm not totally certain what you're question is, it seems autocorrect may have gotten you. LOL However, Augment also contains Amoxicillin, so yes, you may have an allergic reaction to it, as well. As listed by the FDA, the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include nausea, body swelling, trouble breathing, swollen/painful glands and trouble breathing. If you do start to experience them, you should seek emergency medical attention. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Help me please... How much amoxicillin is safe for a 5 year old at 38 lbs? ## Hi indi, According to the MayoClinic, (if you're intending on using amoxicillin for a typical bacterial infection), the dose for children older than 3 months of age, weighing less than 88lbs is based on body weight and "must be determined by your doctor". However, they go on to note that the "usual" dose is anywhere from 20 to 45mg per 2.2lbs of body weight (per day); to be divided and administered every 8 to 12 hours. You could try to do the math on that in order to get a rough estimate - But ideally, like they said, you should discuss these details with your doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps!
