I've been on suboxone for four years and I've been taking about a quarter of a strip everyday .. My last dose was at 11:30 this morning .. So my question is how long should I wait to take a hydrcodone? ## You usually have to wait at least 72 hours, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic and warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took a suboxone 8mg and I have some serious pain. Will vicodin work on the pain or not? I am not looking to feel high, this pain is horrible. ## Hi Cheryl, Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain. From what I'm reading in other related discussion threads here, the general consensus I've gathered is that most patients recommend waiting an estimated 48 to 72 hours to reap the full effectiveness of their pain meds after Suboxone. This is in part due to Buprenorphine's long half life of 24-60 hours (est.), which has a higher affinity than other opioids on your receptors. I hope this helps! ## i have been taking 80 mg of oxycontin and 60 mg of oxycodone day for 7 years due to back pain.i stopped last week and started suboxene. I've been quite ill for a few days but fe...

I have been on one 8mg suboxone strip everyday for 3 months how long should I wait to take my pain pills from hurting my knee I have 30 mg Percs ## When I switched from Percocet 10 mg to Suboxone, the doctor told me to wait at least 20 hours between the doses. I imagine that would be true if switching from Suboxone back to Percocet, but can't say for sure. ## It actually takes about 3 days to be able to take other narcotics and have them become effective, after being on Suboxone. However, you should follow the instructions provided by your doctor. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How long till they can take a 30mg dose of regular medication for pain relief? ## Hello, Nickels! How are you? About 72 hours, due to the Naloxone in the Suboxone, it takes that long for it to stop blocking other opiates. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Ok I have been given a prescription of norco 7.5. I have been on subs since Dec 2013, 8mg a day. Is it safe to take them when they pull my tooth? ## It will not help with your pain until you stop Suboxone for at least 48 hours, and even with that you might get limited relief. ## Steph77 is right it's a complete waste, you should probably just take an extra 4mg of sub that's what my doc told me to do and it worked call your doc and see what he says. ## Ok so it did work with the extra 4mg. I don't do pain well at all. The dentist already scares the s*** outta me so that don't help... ## Ok say if I didn't take the subs for them 48 hours how long would it have to wait to take my suboxone again? I know its not much that I did. but they say it doesn't matter. you still get the withdrawal pains. Help . ## Hi, You need to be in wds before taking subs, about 16-18 hrs. The amount of percs you were taking is not that high. Thats actually a prescribed dose. 1, 4x/day. Anyways, one sub isn,t gonna last long. If I were you I,d just go thru the perc wds, 4-5 days and be done with it. If you...

I took 16 mg of suboxone at 4am Saturday morning and got my morphine filled now. Is it safe to take it after 16 hours? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? No, the Naloxone in the Suboxone will prevent the Morphine from having any effect, you usually need to wait at least 72 hours, before other narcotics will work, again, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been off of roxys for about 3 weeks now. I have been taking suboxone daily. I started passing kidney stones. So I took only one Roxy to help with the pain. Thankfully I passed my stone. I don't know how to go about starting back on the suboxone. I do not have a craving for the pain pills at all anymore, and I really didn't want to take one but I was in agony. Any info is appreciated. Will I have the precipitated withdraws that I have heard about? I don't think that taking just one would make me get back addicted, right? Please help. ## Oh my! From experience I know that kidney stones are horrible, I've had a couple of them over the past few years, seems I am becoming prone to them, as I am aging. As to the medication, if you were taking Suboxone for several weeks,...

I took my last pain meds @ 5 am today and I plan on taking suboxone until I'm able to make it to my appointment. It's 8mg and I know I shouldn't take the whole thing. My question is if I only take it for 3 days will it bother me when I get my pain medication? ## Please wait 72 hours at least. Or the the naloxone in that suboxone is designed to make you sick such as vomiting etc. ## I was on methadone for around 8 years and if I couldn't find that any opiods would work. I recently choose to begin Suboxone and I am on day 8. The first few days were rough but day 3 felt like a new person. Felt better then I had in years, my sense of taste and smell have came back, I felt great even though I'm only sleeping average of 4 or 5 hours a night. Today is day 8 and I actually s...

So i got 2 8mg/2mg strips to try because i have a slight dependency to vicodin which i normally take 15 to 30mgs of a day for a little over a year for chronic skeletal back and neck pain do to sever early on set arthritis. So my question is if i take these 2 strips for the next 2 days (one per day half in the morning and the other in the afternoon/night before i go to bed so i can not be in pain when i sleep) how long after i take the last suboxone will an opioid drug like my vicodin, be able to start working in my body again for relieving my body pain? ## Well first, you need to be aware that you have to be in full withdrawal, before you take Suboxone, otherwise it can throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals, according to the NIH. Once you take it, it will take about 72 hours...

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help. ## should be 48 hrs to alow to leave your system ## So if I took a 10 mg Hydrocodone after not taking a Suboxone for 24-28 hours, will it throw me into withdrawals? That would do me in after surgery to end up in wd's. ## Sorry to say but 8 mg of Suboxone is way stronger then any hydrocodone. It would take a year for you to even feel the effects. I took a 1/4 of a suboxone a friend had given me around 6:00 pm today. How long do I have to wait until I can take a Percocet for pain and not get it and have it work? ## 1/4 of a suboxone isn't a very detailed description how many MG's was the strip?(i know this is an old comment but whatever) ## I know this topic is a few weeks old, but I do agree with josh (post #1) in that the answer to the original thread question would largely depend on how many milligrams of Suboxone you're taking. Based on some other cases I've seen, I'd take a shot in the dark and say it may be up to a week before it's out of your body. Although several personal factors such as age, weight, diet, etc, could also influence the excretion rate. I hope this info helps! Please post back if yo...

i dont take suboxone on a regular basis. i took a quater of subxone today when can i tak e my pain medication ## Generally, unless your doctor instructs otherwise, you have to wait about 72 hours. Otherwise the Suboxone will block the effect of other opiates. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has anyone on here ever taken Suboxone right after coming off of pain pills or have you been told you have to be in withdrawals for 34 hours before taking Suboxone? A friend of mine was on 18 Loratab a day and went to a doctor, who put him on Suboxone and he immediately came back and took one and he did fine. Just wondering what anyone else has experienced. Thank you ## I have taken suboxone after comming off of pain pills. It is true that you need to be in withdrawal from pain pills or the suboxone will precipitate or induce withdrawal which is not therapeautic for taking the suboxone. I was on suboxone for two weeks for withdrawal of pain pills and did fine. Your friend may take a little longer due to taking 18 lortab a day. I was on 4 a day for two years. My biggest problem began whe...

When can I start taking a bunavail after taking 2 roxycodone ## You must be in full withdrawal from all other opiates, before taking Suboxone, or it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Verwon is correct. Not necessarily full-blown withdrawals, but you need to have at least a few of the first symptoms of withdrawals, which varies from person to person. Safe rule is usually at least 24 hours from last dose. ## The FDA may have a warning but I think the doctor prescribing needs to have a heavier burden of letting the patient know just had hard or impossible to get...

Dr. Verwon, how are you? I have been on suboxone for almost 8 years now. I was addicted to Oxy for almost 10 years. I went on pain management because I have a lot of medical problems that caused me severe pain. I still suffer from pain. The suboxone helps take the edge off the pain, sometimes. But, I'm also afraid if I get off the suboxone I'll be back to using pain pills. Can I stay on continue to stay on suboxone as people do with methadone maintenance? My Dr. has not said anything about tapering or taking me off. He knows my situation. What do you think? Thank You! ## Hello Cats! How are you doing? I am fabulous, just keeping busy, thanks for asking. Yes, it can actually be used for pain, too. There are many people that take it for pain, rather than addiction treatment, or fo...

I've been taking 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a molar extraction in the morning. I took my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is tomorrow at 9:30 am. If I don't take Suboxone again before the procedure, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after the surgery? I don't want to get sick, and I am concerned of going through it with no pain medications. Any advice appreciated! ## Hi, you can use hydros after you have your tooth pulled but it,s not gonna do much. You would be better off taking extra suboxone after you had extraction. Suboxone only works for about 4-5hrs for pain relief. Of course it works much longer keeping wds away and stuff like that. I was speaking to my sub dr just the other day about this. I have addiction issues and pai...
