I have been on lortabs for about 10 years,i am going to try an just get off them cold turkey but i have been priscribed 10mg.of methadone to take 1 at night,my question is why cant i stop the lortab an then like day 2 of withdraw take a methadone an then maybe 1 or 2 more times during that week.I havent taken the methadone yet and i dont want to take it ,only a couple times to try an help with the tab withdraws,CAN THIS WORK? ## I understand your concern, because the Methadone itself can be highly addictive, so you don't want to just end up trading one medication for another. However, your doctors concern about stopping cold turkey is due to the fact that you may go into severe withdrawals, which may be very dangerous, even life threatening, in some cases. A user was using for months, tried quitting cold turkey with violent, terrible, horrible withdrawal symptoms that finally tapered off, but left with depression. So user went back to using, tried quitting again but this time administered small doses to ward off the withdrawal symptoms, which worked wonderfully. User was very happy about this, though endorphin deficiency sydrome haunted still. A full dependancy on Almighty Creator Father, St. Johns Wort extract along with exercise remedied this and user is a balanced happy person and free of drugs now. ## Hello, Thank you for sharing this! I'm glad the "user" was able to successfully wean off the opiates and find a way to incorporate exercise and herbal supplements for health and happiness. :) I just thought I'd ask, was h...

Hello all. I am a 22 year old mama to a 10 month old baby. I desperately need to get off opiates.. I mean, my situation pales in comparison to some...but withdrawals are withdrawals all the same. I'm hoping for some helpful advice and tips! I've only been addicted to opiates for about 9 months. I got tabs from my OB after birth, then my boyfriend starting getting tabs, Percs, oxy, roxy....from friends, not prescribed :/ only taking about 30-60 mg a day. Not as bad as some but quitting cold turkey really kills me! Not only am I a mother I am a young professional as well with a great job. I actually just got a raise sooo definitely can't let them down by missing work to detox, besides that I have a wonderful baby who requires and deserves my full attention and I want the energ...

I was prescribed opiate painkillers for 5 years. I gradually became totally addicted to the point that while these drugs ( Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxycontin and others) worked well for their intended purpose, the 'good feeling" they gave me became the focal point of my life. The unavoidable physical and psychological dependence eventually led to serious and harmful consequences- damaged or ruined relationships (divorce in my case) with people who were now less important than the drugs. Responsibilities and interests I had fell by the wayside. Although I have a legitimate need for pain relief due to nerve damage caused by disease, the doctor saw that I was abusing the drugs- taking too much and using them to get high- and cut me off. The withdrawal symptoms were horrific. I went ...

Hi just wanted to know I've been on opiates for ten years I got tired of it so on Thursday nite I stopped taking anything its Sunday football super bowl day but how long does it take to get out of ur system or at least we're the with drawls stop messing with me a sweat about a pound I just want any advice or answers anything to try to help me out ## Hello, Kevin! How are you doing? If you've been taking them for that many years, then it will likely take awhile for all of the withdrawal effects to subside. When I was on pain management for 7 years, it took a little over a month, but the worst of the withdrawal effects only lasted about a week and half. I found that hot showers or hot soaks in the tub tended to help a lot. Have you considered getting professional help from a d...

Just been diagnosed with pancreatic, liver and lung cancer. 55 y.o. The suboxone no longer works, and my oncologist wants me on traditional pain meds. How long does suboxone @ 16mgs for 4 months take to wear off? I am in severe pain, not taking suboxone, taking norco...doc wants me on morphine. I need to know as chemo starts next week ## Did you get an answer yet, or did your doctor figure it out for you? It's really the Naloxone in the Suboxone that's problem, since it neutralizes other opiates. Learn more Suboxone details here. Learn more Morphine details here. ## You have no idea what youre talking about i have been taking suboxone for 6 years now. Naloxone is only to discourage iv use of suboxone has nothing to do with neutralizing other opioids. Thats why you are supposed t...

Hi there, My boyfriend and I were taking opiates for about a year, quite a lot. We have been on methadone for about a year, I've been on it for a few months longer. Started at 60mgs a day and then got down to 12mg. For the past month I've been on a higher dose to get off the opiates we got hooked on again. Think we didn't have enough methadone and the cravings set in. So, I got subutex now and my boyfriend and I are living in separate places now, which make this hard to coordinate. I got subutex and we shared it but I had to start taking 8mg instead of 4mg just so that the withdrawal from methadone would go away. So I've taken most of the Subutex meant for us and have 2 8mg tablets left. I don't have any methadone now, only a script for another month at 12mg. Yesterd...

Why is there no information anywhere on how to get off suboxone or zubsolv.... since recently I was switched to the zubsolv and I hate it. Any success stories out there? If so, please share how u did it. Been addicted to opiates for four yrs and on synthetics now for a yr. My doctor is useless and I'd rather hear it from someone who's lived it anyways. ## There is absolutely no way to avoid withdrawals from opiates. ## Subs are made to be taken long term, all depending on your abuse and history. my Dr had me on it for 6 yrs. I have the understanding that I will be on it the rest of my life due to the damage I've done abusing H, oxycintin 80s, roxys, morphine for a good decade ...sub's are harder to get off of then anything out there, H included, due to its Half Life. I was fighting cancer and ended up hooked on opiates. I had been taking oxycontin, dilaudid, percocet, hydromorphone, you name it, for years. I needed to keep taking higher and higher doses because i had developed a resistance to the drugs and they stopped working. A few years into my fight i caught a break and my cancer went into remission. I started to recover and most of the bone pain issues began to fade. I didn't need the opiates anymore but I was hooked. I went to the doctor for a cessation plan and he gave me a taper down schedule from long acting oxy to short acting percs then finally tapering to nothing. It was going to be a slow, painful, draw down. I started the plan and quickly came unglued at the seems. I had been fighting a painful cancer for years and now I had to dea...

Hi. I have been addicted to H/oxycontin for two years. I got clean for 4 months once and never got back to using everyday. I use at the most 3 days a week but most of the time I use just friday night and saturday. When im off opiates i always take 2mg of suboxone daily. Like i said this has been going on for about two years. This is the biggest problem i have when trying to get clean, I know its going to be a struggle but i preparing myself mentally to just grin and bare it but i end up going through this cycle everytime i try to go cold turkey off subs or opiates. The first day i wake up feeling s***ty but go about my day. I go to work and feel super weak and out of it, my nose usually starts running like crazy and its hard to move and I have zero motivation. As the day progresses my n...

How do you get off of opiates? ## Although I would recommend that your doctor be the one who sets up & monitors your tapering dosage, usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In my opinion, another key component to weaning off is to make yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar in order track your progress and keep you on the right path to complete your goal within a specific time frame. Without a way to track your progress, tapering can sometimes be much more difficult than it needs to be. I hope this advice he...

I've been taking opiates for the past year now after being clean for a year and nine months... I have some zubsolvs 5.7mg. I have four of them... How should I go about getting off? ## Hello, Jesseboi! How are you? You have to wait until you are in full withdrawal, before starting the Zubsolv, otherwise it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Are you still taking any opiates for your back after having the surgery? Please post back with more details when you're able to...

I've always been very very slim, almost underweight. When I was 21 I got hooked on oxycoton & gained a ton of weight quickly. I've been on methadone for 5 yrs now & have gained even more weight. Will switching to suboxone help me lose it. ## Hi Jenna, I was on methadone 4 almost 5 years and gained 50 lbs. a lot of people have gained weight while on it. ( seen it myself) I lost all the weight once I got off the methadone. I'm now on suboxone, and, no weight gain with it. I'm a petite person 2, and, I' am at my weight, where I was b 4 I got on methadone. Weight gain is 1 of the side effects, but, they don't tell u that. ## Hello, Jenna! How are you? I just want to clarify why weight gain happens on opiates, it is because they are essentially a downer that s...

It might help you get some answers if you clarify. Thanks! ## Translation: Rob is asking where he can obtain opiates. One day Rob you will be asking how to stop using, that time hasn't come yet. Oh well, have fun on the crappy ride down the opiate hill. The bottom really sucks and you seem on the way ## Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System It tracks the filling of narcotics too make sure that the patient isnt Dr. shopping or using multiple pharmacies to get multiple narcotic medications. Ive been on opiate pain killers for almost 10 years. At first it was recreational but then 3 years ago I actually got hurt. This stuff has ruined my life and I want off of it but I dont know how to deal with the pain so that I can forever say goodbye to the almighty roxy. Ive tried every otc product as well as perscription non-narcotics and nothing allows me to live my life without this misery. If there is some crazy chinesse remedy or an African vodoo chant, please let me in on the secret. I want my life back! someone please help! ## Unforunately, I know of no such solutions, although they would be awesome. The problem with getting off of narcotics is that a sudden withdrawal can also cause rebound pain, which can be worse than your actual pain levels, for several weeks. What other med...

Why do you think docs prescribe Suboxone or Methadone for opiate withdrawal, make patients stay on it until they are completely addicted to it for years, then have to treat them to come off it? Why don't they treat a 5 day opiate withdrawal with a benzo to sleep, clonidine, gabapentin, trazodone for a week or two instead. It would sure help society not be addicted to Suboxone. Worst drug ever. ## Most people, even if they are addicted, can't just take a ton of medications to try and sleep through their withdrawals and be out of work for that length of time. Treatment with Suboxone or Methadone enables them to still work and be productive, while undergoing addiction treatment and, unlike Methadone, Suboxone usually enables most people to eventually become completely drug free, al...

I was on Suboxone for 8 years extremely successful. Totally took my life back, everything was wonderful. Prior authorization started and my doctor handed me my last script and was like good luck. I went to clinic after clinic, fell off the wagon taking Suboxone as it was throwing me into the worst withdrawals, so I would keep giving up. I'm to the point I can't take it anymore. I'm down to very little or nothing and I just want to start my Suboxone. I went and got my script yesterday but I can't f****** go through the withdrawal for 3 Days to take it. Will I be in horrible shape on a quarter of a milligram of opiates a day? And furthermore they're telling me to take one 8 milligram strip twice a day, should I do that? ## What opiate have you been taking? A quarter mg...

"First do no harm." The starting line in the Hippocratic Oath. I have been a chronic pain patient off and on for 20 years. Should have been ON for the duration, but idiot overdosers and Congress got involved. Drs. are not fulfilling their path. Legitimate pain patients like myself live a miserable existence. We are not seeking drugs to get high or to sell, but to at least dull our pain. I contemplate suicide daily as a way to not feel the constant pain. There is no joy, no happiness and nothing to look forward to when even the smallest task brings tears to your eyes. Physicians are afraid to prescribe meds they know will alleviate pain because a bunch of bureaucrats, far removed from reality, dictate what they can prescribe. How unreasonable is that? Congress doesn't know me...
