hi, my Dr. gave me gabapentin 300 mg cap amn in place of Lyrica, what do you think ? Lyrica was putting so much weight on me and has all kinds of awful stuff in it but I was just wondering your thoughts? ## Hello, Ms. Charlie! How are you? What do you mean Lyrica has all kinds of awful stuff in it? Gabapentin is in the same exact drug class, so you may experience the same issues with it, including the weight gain, since that is a normal side effect of this class of drugs.

orange cap ## There are some orange, 300mg Gabapentin capsules, though I can't provide any specific information on them from just the color. I found a pill behind the seat of one of my employee's work trucks. It's a yellowish capsule with a big G on it and the numbers 5027. Is this medication ever administered in intravenous dosage forms? ## From what I've read, Gabapentin appears to be available in the following dosage forms: a capsule, a tablet, an extended-release (long-acting) tablet, and an oral solution (liquid) to take by mouth. IV methods are usually pertaining to those who recreationally abuse the medication. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing anything other than what your doctor or health-care provider suggests, in that regard. The dosing instructions also state that you should swallow the extended-release tablets whole; and not cut, chew, or crush them. My prescription says take 3 capsules by mouth daily as needed for nerve pain. Should I take all three at once or space them out thru the day? This is for peripheral neuropathy due to chemo treatments for cancer in bones & liver. Also should I take vicodin with this medication ## Have you asked your doctor or pharmacist? I started taking Gabapentin and about 8 days later I broke out in red sores and pimples on my entire back and shoulders. I wondered if anyone has reported such a reaction to this drug. I am now experiencing my throat swollen, red, and scratchy with white pockets. I did stop taking the medication and the skin is slowly clearing but the throat is still bad. Please offer some education back gound on similar concerns to date. Thanks J ## It really doesn't sound like something that was caused by the Gabapentin, especially what you're describing about your throat, that sounds more like a strep infection and the same could be true of the sores and pimples you had on your back, since it can also infect the skin topically. The cream colored capsule with D 03 on it is a 300mg gabapentin. It is mostly used for the treatment of nerve pain as well as a mood stabilizer. I also have found when you are trying to come off of opiates, the gabapentin helps with the withdrawal. It is not a solution, however, taking the gabapentin for a couple days vrs relapsing or getting on suboxone or methadone, is better on your body in the end. Since it is a mood stabilizer as well it helps with sleep, the anxiety, and pains that come with withdrawal. I have used this in my own personal experience and it was a life saver. I believe that if you work the program suboxone can work too, it just is expensive and not everyone has the cash to do it. I don't like to rely on any medicines but I take this over pain pills or barbiturat...

Can you please tell me if Gabapentin usp 400 mg comes in an unmarked white and purple capsule ## Not in the U.S. All manufactured prescription medications in the U.S. are required to have imprints to enable their identification. The only time a prescription medication would be in an unmarked capsule would be if it were something specially ordered by a doctor and done by a compounding pharmacy and it would make no sense in this case, since this medication is already available in standard doses. That said, they are most likely some type of over the counter product, since they are not required to have imprints and be logged with FDA. Is there anything else I can help with?

Since my pharmacist changed the brand I'm getting my feet and legs have swelled considerably. I didn't notice the swelling at first, so am not sure if there's something else that's changed with other products I use, but I don't think so. Could it be this brand of gabapentin that is causing the swelling? ## Hello, Slinnie! How are you? What else do you take and what are your medical conditions? Gabapentin can cause peripheral edema, though it is very rare. Have you consulted your doctor? It's very important that you do so to get to the root of the problem, since it could also be the sign of a serious medical issue.

I would like to know if this capsule orange D 04 gabapentin 400 mg has beads inside of it? ## Since there's no way for anyone to see through a solid capsule, the only way to find out is by opening it up. However, if you're inquiring about this for the purpose of lowering your dosage (by removing potential beads) I would just encourage you to ask your doctor for a lower strength. Opening up the capsule only to find powder inside would probably be a waste of a pill being that they're probably quite difficult to put back together without losing a portion of the contents. My prescription was from two years ago. Now I have the same nerve pain in my upper arm and I have some 100 mg capsules left over. Do not want to see doctor for the same thing.
