On Gabapentin for 2 months. Started at 900 mgs (3 doses 3xs/day) for anxiety after getting off Vicoden. Went down to 600/day after 1 week, then 400 3 weeks later. Having severe burning all over body, really horrific. Has anyone else experienced this? And, how much longer should I expect to ween off the 400? Went to dr about burning and he said I needed to increase dosage but I am fearful since I'm down to 400. The burning is the worse at night, unbearable. Have ordered magnesium taurate since others have indicated this will help with withdrawal? ## Hello, Bobby! How are you? How are you? Yes, it is best to slowly taper it, rather than just stop abruptly. A sudden withdrawal may also create the risk of seizures. Has it been helping you? Have you experience any side effects? Why do you want to stop taking it? ## No but get ready for the pain, burning and neuropathy. I took it for 18mon. Been taking doctor prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain for 2 months. I take 2 300mg before bed as it makes me too sleepy and off balance during the day. I am very concerned about internal organ damage. How much water need I drink to flush this drug out of my body quickly? I would appreciate as much information about this as possible. Thank you for your time and reply. ## Hello, Okji! How are you? Water will not help it to process faster, it will still retain the same half-life as always. The trick for kidney health, however, is to make sure you drink enough fluids to keep your kidneys functioning properly and to see your doctor immediately, if you notice any change in urine volume, have difficulty urinating, experience pain or burning while urinating or any other unusual symptoms. The bottom of both of my feet have a burning sensation especially when I go to bed and I can't sleep. My pain dr. prescribed Gabapentin 300mg (1 before going to bed for a week and then 2 thereafter). I've just started taking it last night and I couldn't get to sleep, tossing off and on all night. My primary dr. prescribed Zolpidem for sleeping which makes me sleep and I don't feel the burning sensation. My question is, can I take both meds before bedtime? ## Continue zolpiden no need to take gabapentin. I think Feeling burning sensation on your foot because of sleeplessness. So continue zolpiden ## Added info.: Dr. that prescribed Gabapentin stated my burning foot sensation is Restless Leg Syndrome. Do you still recommend taking Zolipen rather than Gabapentin? ## Hi Jim,...

I take 800 mg 3x a day of Gabapentin for my diabetic neuropathy. Pain management is considering raising it to 900 mg 3x a day. In the past 3 months I have gained 26 lbs. My feet are also still burning and prickly. What is the highest dose I can be prescribed and could this be causing some of my weight gain? ## The highest dose a person can get prescribed is 2800mg.It's one awful drug to come off.I was on pregabalin and gabapentin for nearly 10yrs.The withdrawls are terrible x ## Thank you for the heads up. I will talk to my doctor about coming off now. ## Hi Monica, Just wanted to add that in response to your last question about weight gain, NIH.gov does list what they describe as "rapid weight gain" on gabapentin's list of side effects here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealt...

I was taking 100mg twice a day. My Dr. upped it to 100mg three times a day. I've been taking this for four weeks now. My eyes have been burning for over three weeks and I've had the feelings of my skin crawling for the past two weeks. Today I've been having trouble breathing, my chest tightening, and burning sensations in my face, eyes, hands, feet, and throat. Within 30 minutes time I've had round, red lesions popping out on my face, head, arms, legs, feet, and hands ## Hello, Tamisena! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. I think you need to see your doctor, or go to an urgent care or ER and have this checked out. This cream (diclofenac 3% / gabapentin 6% / baclofen 2% / lidocaine 5%) and doxepin hydrochloride 5% cream is supposed to be used for pain in my knee and back. I found the second cream but the first which contains four different items is hard to track down. The warnings and interactions is what I am concerned about. ## Generally, these creams can vary from doctor to doctor, and they need to be made by a compounding pharmacist. Thus, they aren't usually "in stock" anywhere, they are made specifically according to what your doctor has ordered. Do you have a compounding pharmacy in your area? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including skin irritation, redness, flaking, and burning. ## The compounding pharmacy is about thirty miles away and they use UPS for del...

I have been on Gabapentin for 2 years for diabetic neuropathy, building up to 300mg x 3 times daily. Six months age I started getting a sore and burning feeling in my throat, which causes me to continually cough to clear my throat. I have had a camera down my throat and nothing bad showed. An x-ray showed I had some fluid in the base of my lungs -could this cause the soreness as well as the persistent cough? I tried reducing the Gabapentin to 200mg x 3 times and the cough eased a lot, but the nerve pain got worse so I increased it again ## Hello, Pamopal! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Yes, it is most likely from the fluid, the cough and throat clearing could be what's actually causing the soreness. Gabapentin can also cause dry mouth and throat...

My boyfriend is on depakota ER, and Vimpat. Previously he was on gabapentin, which stopped working. So Vimpat replaced that. The first week, he was to take all 3 meds to wean himself off the gabapentin. The following 2 weeks, he was to continue the Vimpat 50mg, and after that go up to 100mg. It was a SAVING GRACE, as he was having multiple seizures a week, and om the days he wasnt, he was still having the burning headaches and such that come with his seizures. Once he started Vimpat 50mg twice a day, all of that stopped. Even the headaches, and burning. It's only been 3 weeks but, it's done tremendously in this short time. This week, he has went up to 100mg, and it's almost like it's made things worse. It's only been 3 days, but he has felt horribly bad (like before ...

Anyone know of a cream or compounded ointment for relief of severe pain from post herpetic neuralgia? I’ve suffered with this for 21 years now, down back of leg and around ankle and foot. I’m so tired of fighting the pain. I take gabapentin, tramadol, and amytriptline which help some, but the pain is alway there, stabbing and burning, making it difficult to wear clothing. This is so depressing I don’t even want to leave the house anymore. ## Hello, Patti! I am so sorry about what you're dealing with, that's horrible. Unfortunately, I don't know of any specific cream, or compounded cream that I can recommend, but you might want to ask your doctor about prescribing Lidocaine patches, or a compounded cream with Lidocaine in it, since it is a topical anesthetic...

I HAVE NEUROPATHY. I HAVE SEVER BURNING IN MT FEET AND SOMETIMES HANDS, I HAVE THE TINGLING ALSO IN BOTH. MY DOCTOR HAS ME ON GABA 600MGS 3 TIMES A DAY BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE HLPING WITH THE BURNING. COULD YOU PLEASR TELL ME IF THIS WOULD WORK. ## Hello, Terri! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. Has your doctor prescribed this? It is just various medications compounded into a cream to be used topically, but most of them have not ever been proven to be effective topically. And since you are already taking oral Gabapentin, you would need to check with your doctor before using this, since it also contains it. How long have you been taking it? It is not an actual analgesic, so it will take 4 to 6 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in your bo...

Hi. I suffered a L1/L2 complete SCI injury some 4 years ago. After 6-7 weeks when the spinal shock wore off I noticed I had a burning pain in my lower groin area even though I can't really feel much below my hips, we thought maybe it was a UTI but all showed negative. It was diagnosed as chronic nerve pain and it never goes away, I get acute nerve pains in my legs on top of this chronic pain. I have been taking 10mg Oxycodone four to five times per day and methadone 10mg once a day for the chronic pain + 800mg Gabapentin three times a day for the burning in my legs. The only way I have been able to keep my doses so low over the years is by being very hard on myself as to when to take the pain meds but as hard as I have tried I'm now going up to around 60mg total Oxycodone per da...
