I am experiencing swollen ankles and feet with slight discoloration on top side of my feet more. Could gabapetin 300 mg be causing this problem. ## Based on my research, Gabapentin does list "swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs" as a common side effect. I'm not sure about the discoloration you mentioned, but it's very likely to be related to swelling/inflammation. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Gabapentin Details I hope this info helps to answer your question! ...

I'm on 3000 mg a day and have been for 6 months for back pain. It affects me in various ways...forgetfulness, agitated but it helps with pain, is anyone else on this dose? ## That's the highest dose I've ever seen. I'm on 1200 mg and have a lot of forgetfulness that it worries me. I'm also very " whatever " about things. Don't care to workout. Just sad. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? Yes, doses this high are not commonly used, anymore… though they were back when this medication was new to the market and the reason the higher ones aren't used much anymore is due to the issues you and Heather have stated. There is also a risk of your experiencing a seizure, if you miss a dose or stop it suddenly. Other typical side effects, as listed by the FDA may ... ...

I started taking Gabapentin and about 8 days later I broke out in red sores and pimples on my entire back and shoulders. I wondered if anyone has reported such a reaction to this drug. I am now experiencing my throat swollen, red, and scratchy with white pockets. I did stop taking the medication and the skin is slowly clearing but the throat is still bad. Please offer some education back gound on similar concerns to date. Thanks J ## It really doesn't sound like something that was caused by the Gabapentin, especially what you're describing about your throat, that sounds more like a strep infection and the same could be true of the sores and pimples you had on your back, since it can also infect the skin topically. I've been taking one gabapentin 300 mg three times per day starting six days ago for severe spinal stenosis. It's been a miracle drug for me in terms of pain relief and makes oxycodone seem like a placebo. Unfortunately, starting two days ago I started to experience pronounced swelling in my legs and feet. I'm already taking 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide for high blood pressure and I thought that would prevent any swelling but it hasn't. If I can deal with the swelling and being uncomfortable from it do I still have to go off the gabapentin? Are there any medical reasons I can't accept the swelling in order to have the benefits of the gabapentin? After the first two days on gabapentin I went from 10 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours to 5 mg twice a day, sometimes just onc... ...

Gabapentin can cause these types of side effects in anywhere between 1 to 7% of the people that use it. 3000 mg of Gabapentin down to 1200 mg - AWFUL side effects?
3 Replies RSS
About 16 months ago, I was put on Gabapentin for sciatica. Eventually, I worked my way up to around 3000 mg per day and stayed at that dose for quite some time.. maybe 6 months or so. Here recently, I've slowly reduced it down to 1200 mg (600 mg in the morning and 600 mg at night) - My doctor says that Gabapentin shouldn't have any side effects. However, nothing else has changed with my medicines. Here are my side effects: SEVERE depression, feeling worthless, not wanting to do ANYTHING, including work, suicidal thoughts, uncontrollable crying, knowing something isn't right in my mind, etc) - Does this sound like the Gabapentin reduction? Again, my doctor says there would be no side effects, but I'm SERIOUSLY wondering. Everything I read online is pretty bad about this d... ...

Dr. gave me 300mg of gabapentin today for back & sciatic nerve pain what effects have anyone had from this drug? Good 0r Bad ## The elderly are naturally more prone to experiencing side effects from medications, because their bodies tend to be more sensitive to them, so there's a good chance that you'll experience some side effects. The most common ones to Gabapentin are nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood changes. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Thus it would be best to dispose of it and see a doctor for a new prescription. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. need to discuss with someone about the proper dosage of this med. ## There is really no set dosage for this, though you do need to start at a low dosage and gradually add more until you find the amount that works effectively for you. Most doctors will start with 100mgs taken 2 to 3 times a day, then go up to 300 and continue adding until they find what works for each patient. It would take a tremendous amount to OD on this, which is why so many doctors like to use it, they can take the dosage very high, without danger and it has very few side effects. Your best bet then, is to take your doctors advice on what you should be taking and how often. ## I just started gabapentin. How long before side effects resolve from gabapentin?

My father who is 79 was started on 300 mg of gabapentin, three times a day. After the 4th dose, he was having hallucinations, tremors, and became tachycardic and arrhythmic. Although the MD prescribing would not say stop the medication, his cardiologist advised immediately stopping. He continues to be lethargic, confused and although better, still has some tremors about 36 hours after taking his last dose. His heart rate is down to around 84 now. How much longer until these side effects resolve? ## Hi Snigs, I'm very sorry to hear about your father's situation. Based on your description, it sounds to me like his cardiologist may know best. A lot of these side effects can be serious/life threatening and may require immediate medical attention if they persist. For the doctor to di... ...

I stopped taking a 300 mg twice a day dose of gabapentin last tues. I feel awful depressed sweaty moody irritated emotional very dizzy. How long will I keep feelin this way? I started slurring my words on the gabapentin then felt like wherever I was, I was inside a bubble it was a terrible feeling ## If you have been on it for such a short period of time, they shouldn't last more than a few days, perhaps a week at most. but it can vary from person to person, so I can only give an average from other anecdotal reports. Hey, So my partner started taking gabapentin 3x300mg 3 times a day for rheumatoid arthritis in his feet he's only 29. He recognized this drug as something his friends use to take recreationally and we all know it effects us all differently. I'm bipolar get a little bored and curious not to mention noticed a change in his mood just in general a happier person so I thought I'd start taking them too just for the effect. I soon became addicted to the feeling of not really caring almost superior, I felt I could talk my way out of any situation and just loved life. Of course there's always a time you run out and with us both taking them he soon did. With the pain of arthritis coming and going there was always plenty for me.
