Fiorinal Aspirin, ASA + Butalbital + Caffeine

Butalbital is a barbiturate with an intermediate duration of action. Butalbital is often combined with other medications, such as paracetamol (acetaminophen) or aspirin, for the treatment of pain and headache. The various formulations combined with codeine are FDA-approved for the treatment of tension headaches. Butalbital has the same chemical formula as talbutal but a different structure—one that presents as 5-allyl-5-isobutylbarbituric acid.[2] Its use for headaches i...

I have tried several drugstores for the fiorinal tablet and cannot find them. I have taken them for several years, the capsule is not effective and neither is the fiorcet. Where can I find the fiorinal (butalbital-Asa-caffeine tablets, 50-325-40) ## Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. However, from what was recently reported, it appears that they were removed from the market. I haven't been able to discover why, it may just have been due to lack of sales. The only suggestion I can really give you is that you talk to your doctor to see if there is an alternative that you can try. Does anyone else have any other ideas? ## Reported Where? I take the Brand Fiorinal with Codeine #3 and have not been able to get script filled for couple mo...

I'm an 18 year old girl who has trouble sleeping. I found that Florinal helps but last night i took 5 pills of 30 mg. When i woke up this morning and all thorugh out the day i have been having severe stomach pain. what is happening to my body? How is the 5 pills affecting it? ## Im not a Dr but sounds like too me too much aspirin. Five pills is a lot of aspirin(at least 200mg per pill)just my opinion. ## Firstly, I am not a doctor but Fiorinal is not a treatment for sleeplessness. I'm unclear as to which Fiorinal you're taking. If it is Fiorinal C 1/2 grain, that would contain 30 mg Codeins but it also contains 325 mg of ASA. If this is what you took, you have consumed a massive dose of ASA and this would indeed explain the stomach troubles. Fiorinal should always be taken w...

blue & yellow capsule for migraine headaches ## I am in need of Fiorinal 3 for migraine headaches. Doctors seem to not give them for some reason even though they make make my life much more liveable. I am even on disability because of them. Any help please. ## As a chronic tension/migraine sufferer for the better part of 30 yrs, and having used this medication successfully for 20 plus yrs - I have a few things I can share with you. First, you have to find a doc that will address, "quality of life" and has a great trust relationship with you. If both these are present, you should be able to negotiate a prescription, based on your needs. You also must be open to trying other things. I cannot tolerate the normal triptans, due to heart and bp issues, so I'm somewhat limited....

I have taken Fiorinal tablets for several years as it is the only medication that works for my headaches. I take 1/2 pill at a time, so taking a capsule will not work. I've been informed that Fiorinal tablets are not being made any longer and you can only get Fioricet capsules. Won't work for me. I've also been informed that the explanation for the discontinuance of Fiorinal is a manufacturing plant investigation. Can anyone explain that more? Is the plant investigation for this drug or for something else? If something else, that doesn't explain why Fiorinal is discontinued. I have tried other medications which don't work and I truly would like to find a way to get Fiorinal again. ## Hello, Peanut! How are you? That is correct, at this time, the tablets are no longer...

I need to know how to break an addiction to fiorinal ## Fiorinal contains Aspirin, Caffeine and the Barbituate Butalbital. What kind of withdrawal effects you may experience depends on how long you have been taking it and how much you have been taking. I suggest speaking to your doctor. ## Doctors recognize that both physical and pyscholgical addiction may develop from prescription medication use, even following prescribed doses. It is not your fault. Please get help from recognized addiction treatment providers, including your own doctor. One may also develop medication overuse headache or MOH from too-often used meds. Breaking this cycle may be difficult, but can be done with help. Please ask for that help :) You deserve it. God bless. ## Regular use of medication results in what is c...

I've been taking 4 capsules per day for migraines and pain control. I've been taking this drug for 30 years and it seems like the only thing that works yet allows me to be productive. Since the unavailability issues about a year ago, it seems like they are now not as effective. It feels like they don't have the same amount of active ingredient. I agree that Watson was the best generic I tried. Does anybody know which manufacturer may be better to get from? I find I've been needing more like 6 per day and still am not getting the same relief. Any ideas? ## Hello, Diana! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. At this point, it might be better to just try a different medication. So far, no one who's posted has had good results from any of t...

I have been taking them for years; prefer the original but can't find. I just got some 8 mos ago or so from Prime Mail. Since it is a controlled med., have to go to Dr's next week and get the script and bring it to Rite Aid or Price Chopper Pharmacy(New York State). I've always speicified Tabs not caps. good Luck! ## I went to pick up my script for the tabs and I looked first before I left the office. they wrote capsules. I don't want capsules and I have never gotten them. Took it back and Insisted on tabs and I said I know they still come in tabs. she looked it up and I ahd to wait a ttl of 30 mins. for the old script to get re written/new script for tabs. I've taken Fiorinal Butalb/Asa/Caf (Westward pill) for 15 years, it's been very effective for my migraines. Since they've taken the tablet off the market and I can't get the old one anymore, i just filled the RX for the capsule. I haven't taken it yet, I'm nervous about it. Also annoyed as I used to split the tablet in half as I didn't always want to take an entire pill. Has anyone split the capsule? What are overall thoughts/experiences with the green capsules Butalbatol/Aspirin/Caffeine? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? No, it is not safe to split the capsule. As to how well it works, it really varies from person to person. Some have said they work great, but others haven't had good luck with them. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as...

fiorinal tablets made by westward are no longer because westward is under fda investigation. some manufacturing plant problem. thats all i have found out. maybe we should bombard westward and fda for the absoulute need for a medicine that helps us to function and be contributing citizens of society. we also should have been given a head's up, this was cruel.

Generic capsules don't work as well as the brand name "Fiorinal," but it's very expensive (about $3 per capsule). I actually have found the generics to worsen my headache!! You may want to try Creighton generic--I think it is manufactured at the same plant that makes the brand name Fiorinal. Taking a larger dose is NOT effective and can cause severe stomach problems because of the aspirin, and may lead to ulcers. The best (and only effective one I found) generic tablet was by Westward, which doesn't manufacture it anymore--I have been writing to try to get them to change their business policy on this. Maybe if a lot of us write to them they may change their mind????

Iam confused Watson makes a generic Fiornial with codeine? 425 and makes 3546 please help me I have a product ASCOMP with codeine and it just does not knock out the pain! ## Based on my research, Watson pharmaceuticals does make a blue and yellow capsule, identified as Fiorinal with codeine (Aspirin 325 mg + Butalbital 50 mg + Caffeine 40 mg + Codeine Phosphate 30 mg). The imprint on the capsule is: "FIORINAL CODEINE WATSON 956" National Drug Code (NDC): 52544-0956 I'm a bit confused by the wording of your question though. So please do post back if this doesn't fully address your concerns. I hope this info helps! For many years, Fiorinal with Codeine "Brand" capsules knocked out your headache with no side affects and allowed you to be productive. Since the last year or so since Watson became "Activis", this drug is not the same. They don't work as well, do not knock out the headache. I've heard it might be the "fillers", or maybe they are not making them strong enough. I imagine the generic form are not as good also. It is a shame that we sufferers have to deal with this. If you call Watson Activis, they tell you "nothing has changed". ????? ## It has been a week since I am taking the Fiorinal with Codeine "generic" made by Watson Manufacturer. Out of all the generics I've tried, this one is the best. They relieve my headache with no side affec...

If you don't mind sharing your phone, I have service where I can call long distance at no additional charge to either of us. I decided to start a new thread because although the capsules never worked as quickly as the tablets, they did work by 20 - 30 minutes later. As of July, 2017 they don't. Has anyone else noticed this recently? I've asked my pharmacist about getting a different manufacturer but they can't. Does anyone have any information about another change in the formula? Boy do I wish we could do something to bring back the tablets. ## What are the markings on the capsules you've been receiving? Hi- what is the reason we can no longer buy/get Fiorinal ? I don't understand and the "6 PM news" has never reported a word about this! ## Hello, Jr! How are you? The news wouldn't report it, unless it was a recall or something due to reasons that could be very dangerous. They typically don't report on drug shortages, or when something has just been removed from the market. And I've done quite a bit of searching, but I'm sorry, I've been unable to find any information on why it is no longer available. From what I can find, Fioricet is still available, which replaces the Aspirin with Acetaminophen. Learn more Fioricet details here. So you may want to ask your doctor about prescribing it, instead. Does anyone else know more on this?

What drug stores in alexandria la carry generic for fiorinal Butalbital asa caffeine tablets. 50-325-40 ## Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm sorry, but there is no directory of pharmacies that have any given medication or its generic in stock. And from what I can tell, there is currently a shortage and I am not sure if this product will actually be returning to the market, or not. Have you tried consulting your doctor about trying an alternative medication? ## Of course the doctor has suggested another medication but it is either more expensive or under patent so again more expensive or capsules so more expensive. Are you seeing a pattern here?
