This audio file was created from a revision of the article "Fentanyl" dated 2011-12-01, and does not reflect subsequent edits to the article. (Audio help) More spoken articles Fentanyl, also known as fentanil, is an opioid pain medication with a rapid onset and short duration of action.[6] It is a potent agonist of μ-opioid receptors. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine,[7] but some fentanyl analogues, which are designed to mimic the pharmacological effects of the ...

it is a patch that is called transdermal system and it says 25 mcg/hr and also says each transdermal system contains: 2.55 mg fentanyl Iam a first time user on this meaication what would it do to me????? ## Well, this can have some adverse effects. I am not sure if you have previously used narcotics, I know this should not be used by anyone who has not already built up a narcotic tolerance as it is a very, very strong med. 80 times stronger than Morphine as a matter of fact. My doctor tried taking from Darvocet to the patch 25s and I was so sick, for days, that I couldn't even hold down water, even when she gave me the strongest antinausea that she could. Some people love these, they can work wonders for pain, but they don't agree with some people, so you will basically have to ... ...

I have been weaning myself off Methadone! I was taking 10mgs 3 times a day. I am now down to less than one tablet a day and will continue until I can say goodby Methadone and I never want to see you again. Now to my real problem. Last week my doctor gave me the Fentanyl 25 MCG/HR Patch MYL. I need something to help with the pain I still have although the Lyrica and Cymbalta have really helped. I did not when she gave the Fentanyl Patch to me that I would have to taper off and that it carried baggage of bad side affects. I have read the messages here and have decided not to use the Fentanyl. Thanks to everyone! ## Sorry, I forgot to tell you that I have Fibromyalgia and IT IS REAL!!!!!!!!! ## That is true, the Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, over 80 times stronger than Morphine and i... ...

if you take a 25 mg Fentanyl Patch and it is not that strong of a prescription for you, can you take additonal painkillers like vicodin as needed? Like taking a few vicodin every few hours during the day while on the patch. ## Please DON'T first stop the Fentanyl It's a nightmare!!!! You are on a path you don't want to travel. Find another way, PLEASE for your own sake!!! ## Fentanyl is 80times stronger than Morphine, therefore, I guarantee it is STRONG for you! Mixing it with other narcotics would be extremely dangerous, it is highly addictive and you run the risk of overdose, with possible fatal consequences. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. You can read more about this medication here: This is one of the MOST PO... ...

I am currently wearing the Fentanyl 25 patch. I have had some (4) bad experiences this month alone. Exerting myself - gardening, carrying groceries, lifting anything; I become short of breath, extremely rapid heart rate and my legs and upper body become very weak. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. To be fair, I had awful leg weakness before I started taking or using anything. I don't know what to do. I took an OxyContin (30) mg and had an even worse experience than mentioned above. (Shortness of breath & rapid heart beat went on longer). I have ruptured disks and extreme leg pain that's why I started pain med. I hope someone can help me. ## Hello, KathyB! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the experien... ...

Please let me know the gel brands for fent 25 patches. I always used PAR and now I guess they are obsolete. I'm in northern virginia and I hate the foil backed ones as they are like gum when they get wet and then a ball of gook. I could handle the little tiny ones that are non gel but I they too aren't very sticky once they get wet. The gel ones, I can take off when I shower and stick them back on their plastic and re-stick. I wear them on my hip wear my underwear elastic is and worse case scenerio, I put a bandaid over it if the sticky isn't very sticky. Thank you for any names of gel 25's that I can ask my pharmacy to order without sounding like I'm desperate lol ## Two pharmacies near Woodbridge VA, attempted to order the PAR brand and came back to say they couldn... ...

I've been using the fentanyl patches for 4yrs now. Mostly Mylan brand (best out there). But the pharmacy switched to watson brand because of cheaper price. Here's the problem, for the last 5 months 6 patches out of 15 per month don't stick. They fall off within a couple of hours. Do you recommend some kind of cover tape that I can use? Because of the problems with these products I'm losing a lot of $$$. PLEASE HELP!!! Can someone please get back to me about this. Thanks for your time. ## Hello, Shawn! How are you? There is a cover tape available for them, most pharmacies carry it, so you may want to talk to your pharmacist about the problem. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects,... ...

Hi I am on 25MCG Patches do you ever get used to the weird feelins in your head or is that the trade off for no pai? ## You mean they actually take you pain away? Do they make you sick to your stomach? If your only problem is a bit of a funny feeling in your hear, then I would say, deal with it. But be careful if you go out driving. If you are pulled over, and act kind of drunk, you will get a DUI. ## All the funny feelings will go away with time. Make sure your Dr. Will continue to treat you and not decide one day you don't need it no more when nothings changed. You'll get sick for a good four days from the withdrawal. No sleep, restless leg syndrome etc. great pain reliever just don't abuse it and it'll work great and in a short time you won't even know you have it... ...

was on Fentanyl 25mcg for one month. Doctor is switching me to Butrans patch 15mcg. He says to short a time to get withdrawals .and how long do I wait before I use the Butran after taking off the Fentanyl ? Thank you ## Hello, Sue! How are you? I'm afraid that I must disagree with your doctor on that, because Fentanyl is a very potent opiate, so you may still experience some withdrawals. Additionally, the Buprenorphine in the Butrans may cause you to go into precipitated withdrawals, if you start it too soon. Usually you need to wait until you're in full withdrawal, before starting it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipatio... ...

Fentanyl Horror

Hi, I have been on Fentanyl (Durogesic) about 8yrs. I started at 25mcg ended up to 100mcg every 48hrs. I have numerous chronic pain conditions. I had Glandular Fever then a few months later Ross River Fever (from a mosquito) I ended up with fibromyalgia and Chronic fatigue. I then had a work accident and had surgery to repair torn tendons in my shoulder. During surgery I had a stroke. Apparently there was no oxygen in the lines and this caused stroke. Things went downhill quickly from there. 56 ischemic strokes, a large cerebral aneurysm that required life saving surgery, a couple of smaller aneurysms that burst, I already had degenerative spine which got to the point I now have ruptured and bulging discs (ranging from neck to lumbar) and neuralgia in neck and jaw from the brain surgery. Fentanyl Weening

I have been on the Fentanyl 25mcg patches for about a month and a have. My doctor switched me to the 50mcg patches but after two of them I was moved back down to the 25's because they were too strong. My pain is almost gone so I want to get off of the patches but I don't have enough money (no insurance) to keep buying them or to see the PM Doc again. I have 5 25 mug patches left. Is there any possible way to ween myself down to zero with minimal to no withdrawal symptoms after? I am desperate to be done with all of these pain killers! Please help! ## After such a short period of time, the withdrawal effects should be minimal, though you're likely to still experience some, since this is such a potent narcotic. And as to a way to taper, there's really no way to do that eff... ...

I'm in mass and just lost my blue cross that was covering the duragesic Jansen 100 and 25 mg patches and now im on mass health and they wont cover the brand name which compared to the generic is a big difference in the amount of Fentanyl. For example the 100 has 16.8mg of Fentanyl per patch vs the generic only has 10.55 by mylan. The 25 only has 2.4 i believe and the brand name is 4.2. That's a big difference to me when these name brand are barely making my pain tolerable. I've been on the generic before and they are definitely not even close to the brand name. My question is, I found the Sandoz brand generic that has equivalent amount of medicine in each patch but I cant find pharmacies that carry it or that will order it for me. Completely miserable!! NC changed laws about prescription drugs so my doctor can no longer prescribe my pain meds. I went from taking 25mcg Fentanyl patches every 72 hours to absolutely nothing! The pain in my back is unreal and the restless legs! I am on day 8 of being without..how long will this last? Dr has not given me anything to help. He said that because I was on a low dose I should be fine. NOT! Any ideas?? ## Fentanyl is a very potent opiate narcotic, over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so depending on how long you were on it, it could take a month, or so for all of the withdrawal and rebound effects to subside. Have you considered consulting a different doctor? Someone should still be able to prescribe something to help you, according to FDA and NIH directives. ...

Fentanyl / Adderall

How much adderall can be taken while wearing a 25 mcg transdermal fentanyl patch? ## Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Adderall and Fentanyl. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. Having said that - in my opinion, it would be ok to take these two medications together. However, as far as proper dosing goes, I would simply suggest following the dosage guidelines on the Adderall packaging. If in fact you do end up experiencing undesirable side effects, it would probably be in your best interest to stop taking it and try another medication or holistic approach to your condition. I hope this helps! ...

W/D symptoms of Fenanyl can last for weeks. Are you having a problem with keeping them on, have they been falling off, is that why you are running short. 25 mg fentanyl patch coming off
2 Replies RSS
I have been on it for about 2 months. I am stopping cold turkey. What is going to happen to me? Fentantnl 25MG patch. ## Hello, Jenn! How are you? Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so you stopping abruptly will likely cause some severe withdrawal effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, nervousness and insomnia. It would be much safer and easier to do a gradual taper, which may involve other medications. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? ## Just like most prescription drugs fentanyl is is under the controlled substance act witch means it is addictive, after 2 months of continues use if you quite cold turkey it could force you into withdrawl. If your currently on another prescription pain med that may reduce the withdrawl symptoms ... ...

Can aspirin 325 mg times two.be taken while using a fentanyl patch ,strength 25 MCG for 72 hours. The aspirin is used for blood thinning for A fib. Also can I use tramadol 100 mg for break through pain while wearing the fentanyl patch. Thank you. ## Hello, Rocket666! How are you? There is actually an issue with mixing the Fentanyl and Tramadol, it creates a risk of your experiencing seizures. So, if you need a medication for break through pain, please consult your doctor for something safe. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
