I have a vial of B12 with expiration date of 4/2012, is it safe to still use it for injections ## I would of coarse never recommend taking expired "anything", but generally vitamins are still ok to use shortly after their expiration date, and if it's not as potent or effective, at least you'll know why. April was only two months ago, so I doubt that it will have lost much or any of its potency by now. I have some expired Vitamin C powder from Feb. 2012 and it still seems to serve its purpose well today. It may just be me, but I think the expiration date on vitamins isn't as accurate as we're lead to believe. From my perspective I think the quick expiration date on many products is just to get you to buy it more frequently than necessary. I hope my opinion helps! ...

5513 ## I am not certain what you are asking, could you please clarify? ## Can I take the medication Soma if it expired in 2007? ## I’m wondering the same thing. I found a script that expired in 2007 also. ## Yes you can, they may show signs of aging but should still be good. I did however have some Rantidine/Zantac go bad after storing an emergency night bag in my car in 150 degree Southern California summer weather ## Yes you can. It just loses its potency. ## I have 5-year-old Soma that is just as potent. What they do do is turn hard making them difficult to break in half. And some of mine are also exposed to extreme temperatures

I have a few expired patches that I found in my medicine cabinet that I guess were never used. Has any1 used a patch that is expired for around a year? I think it is kinda like any other opiates that just loose its potency after expires. Please let me know ig any1 else has tried an expired patch. ## Some medications turn to poison and can kill you if they are expired. but the most of them are just going to work less or not at all. But there is no reason to chance it. And if you have a patch sitting back there for X time you must not need it and if you did you would get a new Rx/ ## No they should be safe. My former brother in law is a chemist and he said most scrips will last 10 years. Ill try them for you ## Does this include 0.1mg clonidine patches? They expired Aug 2012. I'm goin...

Are expired ferrous sulphate pills safe to take? They expired in 08. ## When it comes to drugs/medication I think it is best to not take any chances with the past expiration date. They MAY still be ok to take if they haven't been exposed to a high amount of heat or various other conditions outside of the bottle, however I am not a pharmacist or MD, so I cannot guarantee if it is in fact safe for you to consume. There is still a high likelihood that it lost some of its potency and may be ineffective to the point where it could harm your body by not doing it's job all the way, per say. I would recommend contacting your local pharmacy or doctor to assess if the quality of the drug still remains. They may have certain tools or methods for measuring this sort of thing. Please post ba...

Can I take Bentyl that expired 8/10, 9 months ago? ## As with anything, whether it be drugs, food or drink, you should not take them if they are out of date. The date is on the packet for your safety, and you could experience more adverse effects from taking out of date medication. Also some medications can begin to loose their effectiveness passed the expiration date, so it would be best in your case to just request a new prescription given the length of time that it has been out of date. However, if you'd really like to be certain about the pills degradation, you would have to take them to a lab and have them evaluated for quality assurance. I don't know how to go about that procedure, but I am sure it will be cheaper and less stressful to just get a refill. ## Check with your...

So i’m just wondering if i’m able to take 3 month expired buspar? I haven’t been sleeping again due to my anxiety spiking up super bad at night causing me to have panic attacks in my sleep.. i haven’t been able to go to the doctor and they can’t fit me in until next month but I found my old Prescription that has the date to discard as 2/4/22. Will they still help me sleep?? ## Most medications that have been expired for a short time are still ok to take. Few, if any develop any kind of dangerous issue. Typically, the med begins to lose efficacy. I’m not a doc, or a pharmacist, and I would suggest you call a pharmacist and run this situation by them. ## What Beth stated is correct, this Buspar does not become dangerous, once expired, but it may begin t...

Hi. Can you please tell me what the symptoms of using expired Canex V are? ## In this case, since it is an antifungal cream that's commonly used treat yeast infections, the worst side effects would like be a funny odor and skin irritation, according to the NIH. It doesn't become dangerous, nor will it necessarily cause any harm, except for possibly a rare infection, if it is too old and has gone bad. ## Canex has expired 6 months ago can I still use it ## Hi please help me. I bought it in 2021 and used it twice that year. So it's been 2 or 3 years. Can I still use it or should I buy a new one? It doesn't even have and expiration date listed. ## I bought mine in 2020. I still use it and it works perfectly well... I don't know if that's a good thing? ## I bought it...

i WAS PRESCRIBED FLAGYL ONCE AND STILL HAVE SOME AND NEED IT BUT ITS EXPIRED, WILL IT HURT ME BEING EXPIRED? ## I was prescribed flagyl once and still have some and I need it...will it hurt me to take it being expired? ## This isn't a medication that gets dangerous, once it's expired, there are very few that do. However, it does start to lose effectiveness, so it most likely won't work as well as it did when new. If you have an old medication and aren't sure about its safety and efficacy, the best thing to do is to properly dispose of it and see your doctor for a new prescription. Are there any questions or comments? ## Hello, I have the same symptoms as I did 5 years ago. Extreme abdominal pain. I have a bottle of 250 mg Metronidazole. It was dispensed in 2013. I see no...

Hi my mom is on 75 mg of lyrica and she can not refill her script for a few days, ny mother in law gave me an old prescription which her late husband took. they are the same 75mg Lyrica but they are 6 years old! will it hurt my mother to take these? I know that some old medications can acually poison your system. Please let me know. ## Hello, Mandi! How are you? They will no longer be effective and should you should just dispose of them. Lyrica is not a narcotic or controlled substance, so she should be able to get a refill a few days early, without a problem. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can purbac antibiotics cause harm if it expired 4 months but was kept in the fridge? It was taken accidentally without checking the expiry date. can it become toxic? ## Hello, Pierrie! How are you? No, this antibiotic doesn't become dangerous once expired, but in liquid form it may turn bad and make someone slight ill, it will also lose effectiveness. You should watch them for nausea and vomiting, if it gets severe, they may require medical attention. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

can scopex syrup be used after the expiry date. and if not, why? ## Hello, Tarin! How are you? No, a liquid breaks down and loses efficacy very fast, so once expired, it's no longer viable as a medication. You should see your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Does the same apply to scopex sugar coated tablets? What is the shelf life of scopex?

Does anyone know what would happen if I took one the the referenced pills if it's expired for a year? ## The worst that will happen with this type of pill is it might be slightly less effective, very few pills actually get dangerous with age and this is not one of them, All of them do, however, lose potency over time, so it might not be as strong as it was when you first filled your prescription. I am concerned here about the fact that you are trying to self-diagnose, though. If you are experiencing edema/swelling, there could be several reasons for it, and taking a pill that was prescribed to treat an old condition might not be appropriate for this one if your condition has changed. You should really consult your doctor to rule out serious problems.

Is it safe to take a halcion if it's been expired for 20 years? ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? No, any medication that is that old should be disposed of, medications lose efficacy over time, because they degrade and there is a chance that one that is this old could make you ill, if you take it. The FDA lists Halcion as containing Triazolam, which is a benzodiazepine. They are most commonly used to treat anxiety and nervous disorders. They carry the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have 2 roxicet 5-325 tablet that expired 9/28/2012. Out of the ten that were prescribed the two left look in good condition don't smell funny or anything. Going out of my mind with a migraine and wondering if they are safe to take since I've got nothing else and can't drive. ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? This medication doesn't get dangerous, once expired, but it does begin to lose effectiveness, so it may no longer work as well as it did, when it was new. Due to the Acetaminophen in them, taking extra isn't safe, so it would really be best to dispose of them and see your doctor for a new prescription. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipati...

I have a bottle of 25MG Topamax that I take 3 pills (75MG) at bedtime for extreme headaches that make my skull bulge where the pain is. I noticed that the pills expired 3/22/2011 but I no longer have medical insurance. Are they still ok to take? ## Topamax isn't a medication that gets dangerous, per se, after the expiration date. But it does start to lose effectiveness, so it will not work as well as it did, when it was new. The effectiveness will also be affected by how it was stored. For instance, if it was stored in a dark, relatively cool, dry place, then it will degrade much slower than if it was store in a brightly lit, warm, damp area. Learn more Topamax details here. I know it isn't always financially possible, or practical, but as soon as you can, the best thing you can...

I got a prescription for Vyvance for BED about 6 months ago and never started it. Do you think it's expired by now, and won't work if I start it? ## Hello, Amy! How are you? No, it should be fine, if your doctor still approves of you trying it. Tablets and capsules are usually good for at least a year from whenever you received them from your pharmacy. The FDA classifies Vyvanse as a stimulant, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as dizziness, headache, dry mouth, insomnia, nervousness and anorexia. Is there anything else I can help with?

I also take Celexa and buspar but I'm still having bad anxiety and I have some hydroxyzine from 2011 and I was wondering if it is safe to take it? Please any help would be great. ## Hello, Duckie! How are you? I'm sorry about the way you're feeling. This medication doesn't become dangerous, once expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it may not work as well as it did, when new. It would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor to obtain a new supply, if needed. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Hydroxyzine as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and sedation. Is there anything else I can help with?

So my husband took some Baclofen thinking it was ibuprofen. He started getting really drowsy so I checked out the bottle to make sure it was ibuprofen and the bottle read Baclofen. He took two 20 mg doses, and it was expired from 2 yrs ago. What could happen since he took 2 and they're expired? ## In many cases, expired meds are just fine (depending on how long it's been expired and how well they've been stored). However, if he hasn't made any signs of improvement since the timing of your post, I would probably encourage you to contact a local pharmacy and/or poison control (available 24/7 at 1-800-222-1222); and in worst case scenarios, the emergency room. My thoughts are that a pharmacist or poison control center will at least know what signs and symptoms to be mindful...
