I have tingling in my face and arms, a burning sensation on the bottom of my feet, no energy, a bloated feeling in my stomach area. Has anyone experienced any of the above using eliquis? ## Since this is still relatively new to the market in the U.S., there isn't a lot of side effect information available, yet. What I'd suggest is contacting your doctor to see if they know more, they'd be the best person to help you. Learn more Eliquis details here.

I am a 76 year old man with afib. My EP suggested Eliquis and gave me a 30 day free sample. I have used it and am on my first 90 day refill. After reading all of the comments on this web site I was reluctant to try Eliquis. As of now I have had no side effects. I am about 5' 10" and weigh 215. I spend 20 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes in an exercise routine daily. If I notice any adverse side effects as time goes by I will repost on this site. ## Hello, Newport Jim! How are you? Thank you for the helpful post! Not everyone has problems taking Eliquis, it's just that those that day are usually the ones hunting up a site like this to discuss the problems. The millions of people that take any given medication, without a problem, are rarely online discussing their posit...

I have been taking Apixaban for PE's for nearly 2 years now thinking that it was great as Warfarin was unreliable and had to have too many blood tests. I am 56 and have now put on a lot of weight but didn't realize that this drug can cause this. My lifestyle hasn't changed very much so I couldn't understand why I was putting on weight. Also at night when sleeping my arm on the opposite side of how I'm sleeping also goes numb and I wonder if this can have anything to do with the drug too, as well as feeling really tired all the time. Is there an alternative as I really am feeling depressed about my weight? ## I am on Apixaban and I am having a very dry mouth and have to drink water the whole night. I talked to my doctor and he says it's because of the medicine and...

I have been taking Eliquis for 1 1/2 Months and I think I am allergic to it. Everything was okay until this week. My stomach looks like I have been sunburned and is swollen I also have gained weight, and losing more memory. My urine is also real dark. this is just not normal. Do I need to go back to Warfin? Do you think Eliquis is working for me? ## Hi Lucille, Sorry to hear about your situation. If you've developed a rash and inflammation, I agree with you that those are probable signs of an allergic reaction. However, according to medlineplus.gov, "red, brown, or pink urine" listed as a potentially serious side effect as well as a possible overdose symptom that should be brought to your doctor's attention immediately. On the other hand, dark urine could also be attribu...

My husband was on Eliquis for over two years. I watched him go from a outgoing person to someone who just wanted to sit and watch TV. One Thursday night he couldn't get up and could not move his right leg. By the time I called 911 and he reached the hospital, he was paralyzed on his right side. His mouth was drouping and he could not speak. He suffered an intercranial hemorrhage which could not be reversed. Why would the FDA approve a medicine which there is no way to reverse the bleed once it starts. He passed away that Sunday. I was in shock. It has been almost a year since his death. I told the Dr. I thought Eliquis killed him and his replay was, well lets put it this way, it helps more people than it kills . Not what I wanted to hear. ## I am very sorry about what happened. My d...

Since switching from xarelto to eliquis two years ago, I have been experiencing extreme bouts of sluggishness, itching and hives. Is that normal? ## I was switched to Eliquis low twice daily dose after 9 months on 20mg once daily Xarelto as i wanted to come off blood thinners altogether but specialist felt i was candidate for repeat blood clots due to age and other health factors. Dreadful experience - only on Eliquis 3 days before side effects of intense pins and needles all over body, pounding head, made me stop them. Back to Xarelto at specialist's insistence. Lesser side effects on Xarelto but still unhappy with feelings of weakness in legs, muddled thinking, loss of balance. Finally stopped Xarelto last month (my choice, not specialist's) and have slowly regained balance an...

After an ablation I had a monitor on for 30 days. The doctor said I had Afib and put me on 100 mg of flecainide twice a day plus 5 mg of eliquis twice a day. I seem to be having constipation problems. Plus blood in rectal area which could be from something else as I have had that problem before. ## Hi Nancy, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I could gather, "red or black, tarry stools" are listed as a side effect of Eliquis (Apixaban) on medlineplus.gov. "Black, tarry stools" + "constipation" + "blood in the urine or stools" are all listed as side effects of Flecainide on nih.gov. It sounds to me like either medication could potentially be the culprit, but I would encourage you to contact your doctor about this just to be on the safe side. Hop...

I have taken elequis for over 2 years now. I have Afib. This month my Dr added another drug - a ppi to my prescription to combat any future stomach problems caused by elequis! I take beta blockers too! I have so many side effects from elequis - tiredness, aching joints - knees, toes and shoulder joints. Difficulty sleeping due to shoulder and knee pain. How do I get off this drug - or at least reduce it from 5mg x 2 a day to 2.5 mg. x 2 a day? I would really prefer to just take aspirin but don’t know if it is effective? ## The beta blockers can cause similar side effects, so it's difficult to determine which one might be causing your symptoms. Side effects to the ppi may include nausea, stomach pain, headache, and bloating. Ref: Harvard Health PPI Medications As to the Eliquis...

I hurt my right foot over 2 weeks ago and my toes and foot turned black and blue. It was someone stepping on my instep. Last week I banged my left foot and that also turned black and blue. Is this from eliquis? ## Hello, Carol! How are you doing? Yes, the FDA does list easy bruising as being a very common side effects of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, and headache. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No that's what I needed to know. Foot looks pretty bad from just a small bump. Imagine if I had dropped a frozen oven stuffer roaster on my foot like a friend of mine did a while back. Cant imagine. ## I am on Eliquis and my arms are purple from brushing. Every time I hit myself I bruise. Is there any cream that I can put on the bruises?

My husband was put on Eliquis after he was diagnosed as having a-fib. The DR stopped his blood pressure medication and 81mg aspirin. He went through cardio aversion to get his heart back in rhythm...as been in rhythm since Dec. However, he is suffering from the tiredness, shortness of breath, gout attacks, ankle swelling and abdominal swelling that I have been reading about. He also has a very productive cough that has been going on since late December. He has been on numerous antibiotics, cough syrups, allergy pills, and even something for reflux. After reading some of these posts about Eliquis, could it be responsible for his chronic coughing? ## Hello, Ann! How are you and your husband doing? Yes, according to FDA reports it has been known to cause coughing as a side effects. It may ...

I am on Eliquis 5 mg. per day, and Diltiazem 240 mg. ER. Have insomnia, dizziness, loss of balance, weak legs, itching especially of scalp and face, frequent urination, swelling in ankle and foot, and small appetite. I am in my 80's. I'd like to know if others have any of the same symptoms? ## Yes, those are possible side effects of one, or both of these medications. You may also experience headache, diarrhea, stomach pain, and easy bruising from the Eliquis and Diltiazem. How long have you been taking them? Some side effects will go away, in time, as your body gets used to them, but if it has already been a few months, and you are still having issues, you should speak to your doctor. ## I have been taking both for about 2 years. I have told my doctor but he insists I stay on th...

I have been experiencing joint and muscle aches. Also a loss of memory and totally can't smell. Also things don't taste as good. I am on neurontin as well. That maybe together with eliquis is causing this lethargic and dizzy feeling. I had a really bad cough. I went into AFIBULATION and that is the reason for all these meds. ## Hi I Have Been Taking Eliquis For About A Week Now. What Will Happen If I Can't Take It ## Those can be normal side effects of Eliquis, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Michelle, you should take it, as long as your doctor directs you to do so. If you don't like the way it affects you, you could speak to them about possibly trying a different medication. However, skipping doses ...

I am taking 5mg of Eliquis and 3mg of melatonin each day. Is it safe? I want to take melatonin twice a day for sleeping trouble. Is it okay? ## Melatonin can increase the anticoagulation effects of Eliquis, according to FDA reports, so they should not be taken together, without your doctor's approval. It would be best and safest to consult your doctor about what you can safely take to help with sleep problems. Are you on any other medications?

Hi, I just started taking Eliquis a few days ago for a DVT and I am wondering can you lose weight while using this medication? I've read that people have gained weight but what about losing weight? ## Yes, it is possible and has been reported as happening to some people that take it, but it is a very rare occurrence. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have gained weight. I have been taking for one month. I just don’t know about this. I am a incomplete paraplegic and I only gain 10 lbs in 9 years and I have gained over that in month... ## No definitely not. I have gained almost twenty pounds. I am going to Dr Friday and see what else ...

Does ANYONE know if you can eat grapefruit while in Eliquis. NOBODY seems to be able to give me an answer! ## According to Poison Control you should avoid grapefruit while taking Eliquis: "You can take Eliquis® (apixaban) with or without most foods. You should avoid grapefruit, grapefruit juice, marmalades, limes, and pomelos while you are taking Eliquis®. These fruits prevent the breakdown of apixaban and may increase side effects." Source: ## Thank you Roy! How hard could it have been for my doctor, even for Eliquis' manufacturer, to either tell me or point me to this article? ## You're very welcome! And yes, apparently too hard for them lol ## :) Thanks again

Experienced dizzyness, headache, unusual weakness with initial start of Eliquis 5mg tab. Will be put on 2.5mg strength. Can my supply of 5mg Eliquis be split and used up as 2.5mg? hpask ## Hello, hpask! How are you? Yes, that should be safe to do, since it is not time released, but you may want to double check with your pharmacist to be certain. This medication may cause you to bruise more easily, as well as increase your risk of bleeding. It may take a few weeks for such side effects to go away, once your body gets used to the medication. Are you on any other medications?

Does Eliquis cause dark brown stools? This has started two days ago. Although I have been on this drug for the last two months. ## The last 3 bowel movements have been a maroon blackish color. I take Eliquis 2 times a day. Should I be conserned? ## Please consult your respective doctors immediately, or seek emergency medical attention. Dark colored stools, such as you've both described, could be a sign of internal bleeding, which Eliquis has been known to cause as a side effect, according to FDA warnings. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. Ref: Eliquis Information How are you both doing? Has there been any change?

I have Afib and was on warfarin for 5 years. Got tired of keeping up with Vit K so went on Zarelto. My fingers on my right hand after about a week swelled up and hurt and so did my right arm. I called doctor and he put me on Eliquis, I've got no better, infact now it's in my left hand too. Anyone had any problems with joints swelling with Eliquis. I could use information on how long this swelling will last after getting off either of those drugs. Thanks so much Belle ## Hello, Belle! How are you doing? Has there been any improvement, yet? That's not something listed among the typical side effects, according to the FDA. It has been known to cause edema, but usually of the feet and ankles. Many people have had it cause severe joint pain, which forced them to switch to a differ...
