Experienced dizzyness, headache, unusual weakness with initial start of Eliquis 5mg tab. Will be put on 2.5mg strength. Can my supply of 5mg Eliquis be split and used up as 2.5mg? hpask ## Hello, hpask! How are you? Yes, that should be safe to do, since it is not time released, but you may want to double check with your pharmacist to be certain. This medication may cause you to bruise more easily, as well as increase your risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi everyone; Thank you for any replies, I have been on cartia for some time now as have a/fib, had a TIA a couple of weeks ago now Dr`s want me to take Elequis 5mg twice a day. I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...

So far strange pain in the top of head. stomach cramps. blood in urine. pain in back passage cant sleep more than 3 hours per night. affecting spinal stenosis and arthritis. Recently diagnosed with muscle wasting disease Myasthenia Gravis and I think there is a problem with taking Eliquis and having this condition. ANYONE HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS? oh forgot urine bleeding started after a 5hour flight ## I began Eliquis on thursday evening and within a day began feeling my pulse pounding in my brain and top of the head. Also felt unbalanced, like I might fall over. Also, felt like I had a weight on the top of my head. Stopped taking it yesterday morning and began war...

Not and latey my periods have been normal I scares me A bit is there achanc the Eliquis is not working ## Hello, Tammy! How are you? There's always a chance that any given medication will not work for someone, that's why there are usually several options to try in any given therapeutic category. Have you had any of the other side effects, such as nausea, headache, joint/muscle pain or easy bruising? Your doctor would be the best judge. ## I had been on Xarelto 20mg for almost a year when I was switched to Eliquis 5mg. Reason for meds was dvt i...

I am taking 5mg of Eliquis and 3mg of melatonin each day. Is it safe? I want to take melatonin twice a day for sleeping trouble. Is it okay? ## Melatonin can increase the anticoagulation effects of Eliquis, according to FDA reports, so they should not be taken together, without your doctor's approval. It would be best and safest to consult your doctor about what you can safely take to help with sleep problems. Are you on any other medications?

How much melatonin can you safely take while on 5mg of Eliquis twice a day? ## is there a reaction if you are taking 5mg of eliquise and 10mg on melatonin ## According to The University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no drug interactions listed between Eliquis and Melatonin. That said, it would probably be best to inform your prescribing doctor about anything/everything you intend to take alongside what they prescribe you; at least to be on the safe side. One thing is certain though and that is our bodies naturally produce Melatonin, so I don't see how a pharmaceutical would interact with something already naturally occurring within us... unless of course the drug itself is flawed, which many man made substances are... Hope this helps!

I am on Eliquis as a treatment for a DVT in my right leg I incurred 10 days ago. I took 2 pills twice a day as prescribed for 7 days and have taken 1 pill twice a day (5 mg) for 2 days but am feeling woozy and somewhat dizzy about 2 hours after taking the recommended dosage. Can I reduce the dosage to 1 5mg pill a day instead of 2 pills a day? The swelling and pain in my leg has decreased considerably. I'm wearing a leg calf stocking which helps. Mike B (age 67, 200 lbs) ## You should take the dosage that your doctor has instructed you to take, unless they advise otherwise. This medication can cause dizziness as a side effect, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, headache, and easy bruising. They are typically transient and should go away, once your body gets used t...

66 yr old male, 5'11", 191 lbs. Exercise daily. Prescribed 5MG Eliquis x 2 day. Since starting approximately 3 weeks ago I have become extremely depressed to the verge of crying. Never been like this before and I contribute this depression to the drug. Also very lethargic which I contribute to Eliquis. Anyone with similar reaction? Was on a aspirin and I think I should return. I suspect this depression to be directly linked to the drug. ## Hello Abel! How are you? I'm very sorry about the way you're feeling. Yes, depression can be a side effect of this medication, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. If it is that severe, then yes, you should most likely consult your doctor about stopping...

History of valvular incompetence and superficial thrombophlebitis of Greater Saphenous Vein (GSV) in the left leg. After being on Eliquis (5mg x2 per day) for a little over 2 1/2 months due to GSV clot propagating into femoral vein (although not that impressive), I developed a case of what appears to be superficial thrombophlebitis in the medial calf of the opposite (right) leg. This seems somewhat odd as if the Eliquis is not working. Will be making an appointment with my vascular doc next week (even though not scheduled to have follow-up ultrasound for initial DVT until 10 more days). Any thoughts? ## No medication can be guaranteed to work 100% of the time, or to work for everyone that tries it. Have you had the exam, yet? If so, did it turn out to be another clot? Eliquis may cause ...

Help with bleeding on eliquis. Dr. wants my husband to go 2.5 mg instead of 5mg. Not happy with answer to his bleeding. ## Hello, Judy! How are you and your husband? Has there been any change? Unfortunately, a dosage adjustment is the way bleeding is usually dealt with, according to the NIH. Other side effects, as reported by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. How bad is he bleeding and what has caused the bleeding?

I was taken off of Xarelto and put on Eliquis 2.5mg twice daily. Everything seemed fine. Then my cardiologist increased the dose to 5 mg twice daily because she said I should be on a “regular” dose. Within a day or two, I started with shortness of breath upon the least exertion. Also, I became constiipated. I continued until I became so debilitated that I decided to lower back to the 2.5 dose. By this time, the shortness of breath had a life of its own. Anyone else have this reaction to Eliquis? ## Hi Marilynn, Sorry to hear about your reaction to the medication. Medlineplus.gov lists the following symptoms as side effects of Eliquis (Apixaban): -trouble breathing -wheezing -feeling dizzy or faint Source: medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a613032.html They go on to note that if ...

Since taking Eliquis my weigh keeps going up. If I take a waterpill once a week, I lose 3-4 pounds overnight. I think there is a lower dosage like 2.5. It must be available at that strength. My food intake or activity are the same. I always maintained the same weight. ## Yes, weight gain is a typical side effect of Eliquis, many people have reported experiencing it. As reported by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. And yes, it is available in both 2.5mgs and 5mgs. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have gained 25 pounds and recently stopped eating any carbs and back working out 1 hour a day. not even a budge on the scale. I also have a swollen belly not sure if this is a side effect or not. ## I have been...

on eliquis 2.5mg twice daily Feet swell. Pamphlet reads possible side effect. I keep feet highly elevated when sitting. Want to avoid taking diuretic. No high blood pressure, not over weight. Who has experienced this & what have you done. I am considering compression stockings. I have frequent urination, that is not a problem. In the past my feet would swell when siting at the p.c. for a lengthy period of time before I was on any meds. My next dr. appt. coming up in 2 weeks. Appreciate any feedback ## Hello, Jackie! How are you doing? How did your doctor's appointment go? Yes, just as you've read, the FDA says that can be a side effect of this medication, along with nausea, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. You may need to take a diuretic or switch to a...

Can I cut a 5mg eliquis in half, instead of getting the 2.5mg ones? I need to reduce the dosage after a successful ablation. Please comment. Thanks! ## Can I split a 10 mg pill of Eliquis in half? ## Does the tablet have a score line? It appears that the Eliquis tablets are film coated according to what I see on DailyMed. If there's no score line then I would not recommend it. ## Eliquis does not come in a 10 mg. tablet, just 2.5 and 5 mg. 2nd Eliquis is not scored, 3rd Eliquis is not film coated, just a simple compressed tablet. The tablet is so small it would really be difficult to split evenly. ## What did your doctor tell you to do? If he/she told you to decrease your dosage, why can't they give you another Rx? I don't think Eliquis is a drug you can or should cut in hal...

My mom was switched from Xarelto to Eliquis (2.5mg x 2 daily) 4 days ago. Since then, she has experienced itchy eyes, runny nose, trouble sleeping and heavy phlegm at night. Is there a connection? Or is it a cold? ## Hello, Jack! How is your mom doing? Yes, the FDA does list those as being possible side effects of Eliquis, she may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. That's not to say she may not also have a cold, though. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I just switched also 2 weeks ago and having the very same side effects. ## Thanks, Verwon. Since then, the symptoms have gone away. Her MD mentioned it could be just transitional. ## Hi Janet, I hope your feeling better. My mom's symptoms seem to have passed. the tablet was 5 milligrams will she be okay ## Dog might have eaten 5 mg pill of eliquis ## I would recommend calling a veterinary office right away if you haven't done so already. This will help determine how serious of a situation it is and help you put things into perspective a little easier. I see that you mentioned how your dog "might have / may have" eaten it, but you don't really know for certain, is that correct? What makes you think the dog "may have" eaten it? Did you do a pill count to check for any tablets that are missing or are you just assuming the possibility that your dog ate something it shouldn't have eaten? More importantly, how is your dog feeling right now? ## My 12year old 13 lbs. May have eaten a 2.5mg eliquis Rat terrier. Should I be...

Is it safe to take a Vitamin B Complex for my osteoarthritis while I'm taking 5mg of Eliquis twice a day. Also, regarding a multi-vitamin, what should I look for in terms of which vitamins, dosages and combinations that would be safe with the Eliquis I'm taking. ## Some vitamins can cause too much blood thinning, when taken with a medication like Eliquis, so it would be best to double check with your doctor, before taking them, just to be safe. There are also some vitamins that may reduce the effectiveness of the medication, such as vitamin K. Eliquis may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased risk of bleeding. Does your doctor have you on any dietary restrictions? Are you taking any other medications?

Has anyone had an extremely uncomfortable burning in their feet while taking 5mg Eliquis once a day? My dad keeps getting this “on fire” sensation on the soles of his feet and “sunburn feeling” in his legs. He’s only been on this dose of Eliquis for a week but it hasn’t gone away. Can caffeine also be making this worse? ## Hello, Lisa! I'm very sorry about what you're dad is experiencing. Yes, Eliquis has been known to cause these types of side effects in some people that take it. Ref: MedScape Eliquis Other side effects may include nausea, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and gout. Most side effects tend to taper off in severity, and eventually go away entirely, once someone gets used to a medication, but that may take about 4 to 5 weeks...

My cardiologist wants to put me on the drug eliquis 5mg 2x daily for AFIB, plus the drug metoprolol ER succinate for HBP. I would like to read patients results, mostly positive and good, after or while taking these drugs. I am 84 yrs young and with few exceptions have been prescribed drugs (example- anti-biotics) in my lifetime - not even an aspirin, so I am quite concerned about these drugs especially since I've read so many negative verging on horror stories regarding Eliquis. ## I've been on Eliquis for over a year for DVT & PE. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm sure your doctor is good & has checked your kidney function before determining your dose. I experienced headaches and upset stomach when I first started taking it, but they were mild & d...
