This drug doesn't seem to be available at any dose. Have they stopped making it? I take it for rosacea... ## Hi lynn, According to The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists: As of December 10, 2012, there has been a shortage in Doxycycline Capsules and Tablets, mainly due to supply and demand (with a lack of raw materials). I'm supposed to be taking two doses of 100mg of doxy twice a day for ten days for upper respiratory infection. On my third day, but have only taken it once a day due to forgetting to take my second pill each day. Does this mean that I won't get rid of the infection because I'm not taking it right? Is the one a day ok taking even going to benefit me? It is actually best not to use an expired antibiotic, they tend to start to lose effectiveness and may not properly eradicate an infection, which could create antibiotic resistant bacteria. This can also occur if you don't have enough of them to properly eradicate an infection, or if you take them when you don't actually have an infection. ## My niece is taking this drug for acne it is 100mg and she takes it 1 X a day. SHe is experiencing chest pain and says it is a side effect of this drug????? ALso, is it ok to just stop taking this drug or does one have to wean off?? I am concerned about the shocking price increase associated with my supply of a common antibiotic drug which I may have to take for the remainder of my life. I have had 5 surgeries on my left thigh starting with a hip replacement in 2009. Everything was healing until May, 2010 when I fell and landed on my hip requiring an extensive revision to the hip and the femuir. Can doxycycline hyclate 100mg cause depression (because of the bad effect on the stomach). I was on it for a while (large dose) until my gut could no longer take it. I went off of it (for a UTI), when I felt better. I went back on it. From that point on I have had problems. Recently I was prescribed it for another UTI. I bravely took it & before the fourth dose my gut just plain went crazy. I cannot get a good feeling between my head & gut. I had all kinds of GI exams, all came out well for an 80 year old. I'm a hurting! ## The depression is most likely a combination of everything, not just due to the antibiotic. As to the GI issues, this antibiotic can be pretty rough on the stomach and generally, people over 65 are much more sensitive to medications and their side effects....

No money right now for a dentist and I have a new bottle of doxycyline hyclate in 20 mg form (using for acne) pill says lci on one side and 1336 on the other, small round white. I have a tooth abscess and want to know if I can increase the dosage safely to 100 mg per day to fight the infection? ## @Jason, Based on my research, Doxycycline can be used for a tooth abscess. The usual adult dose for a severe bacterial infection is listed at 100mg orally every 12 hours for 7 to 10 days; (but the 100mg may also be taken once daily as a "maintenance" dose for less severe infections). My only question to you would be do you have enough pills to run a full course of treatment, in order to fully eradicate the infection? I took my daughter to the docters to get a infected finger looked at they gave me amox clav 500mg( she never took them cause finger healed )now she was persribed two days ago azithromycin for sickness 250mg. Which she is taking. I went to the hospital today for same sickness and my husband is showing signs now that he is getten it . they gave me doxycycline hyclate 100mg. Iv been on the meds for a few years to treat acne and am hoping it would of stopped me from catching the virus. ## Have you consulted your doctor? While it is an effective antibiotic, the fact that you've been on it for quite awhile might mean that you've developed some antibiotic resistance, so it may not be effective at treating or preventing other infections. Thus, if you've been exposed to Chlamydia, you may need to be treated with a different antibiotic to prevent complications. ## Has anyone taken doxycycline hyclate and developed a fever?

I was prescribed both amox-clav 875mg and doxycycline hyclate 100mg. I read the pharmacy info that came with the medications. Both state DO NOT TAKE with the other. Why would the doctor prescribe both? ## The reason a possible interaction is warned of is because the Doxycycline and the Amoxicillin in the Augmentin can cancel each other out at some doses, so it may be like not taking any antibiotics, at all.
