I've been on morphing 15 mg for 9 years at 4 times a day . witch would equal to 60 MG's. A day and now they decided to put me on 30 milligrams time release twice a day . is this still the same thing or different and how ## Hello, Blackbetty! How are you? The time released can give some people better pain control, since it is slowly released over the 12 hour dosing period. That is the only difference. And no, you can't cut or break them, because that could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. They must be swallowed whole. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ##... ...

15 mg morphine
6 Replies RSS
My Doc prescribed me 15 mg of Morphine. Ive been on vicodin 7.5 mg for three years. How much of a difference is morphine? I took half of the blue pill just now. ## The Morphine is stronger than the Hydrocodone in the Vicodin, it is also a straight narcotic, without the Acetaminophen that is in the Vicodin. It sounds like your doctor is trying to help you get better control of your pain. The main issue here is, what type of Morphine pills are they? If they are the time released version, generics for MS Contin, then cutting the pill in half could be very dangerous and should not be done. It can cause you to have too much of the medication released at once. The side effects are similar and may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. You can read more here: Do you know what ty... ...

Yes, that would defeat the time released mechanism and is not safe to do. I'm nervous about taking it. ## If you have taken other narcotics, then you will feel the same effects, though Morphine is very strong. In case you haven't, you can expect to feel drowsy, possible nausea, dry mouth and experience constipation. ## my dr, gave me morphine cr 15 mg. but this is too strong for me. can i use a pill cutter? ## Good and out of pain ## My rheumatologist gave duloxetine for fibromyalgia. I've had 1 flare in more than a year, so it's worked well without all the possible side effects of morphine. Just a thought for you unless you've already tried it. Good luck to you. ## Don't cut CR tablets. They have a coating on them to prevent the full dose from you g int... ...

Can I overdose on 1 30mg ER morphine tablet? i weigh 173 lbs if that atters. i have nver taken anything stronger then a hydro 10 and kinda scared to take this medicine. ## I'm not personally aware of the difference in potency from Hydrocodone to Morphine, but I wouldn't suggest taking anything that puts a scare in you like that. If it's too strong it's too strong and your best bet would be to start off with a smaller dose (cut in half perhaps to assess your tolerance). To answer your question though, I don't believe you can overdose on 1 tablet, but you may or may not experience some very undesirable side effects if your body is not used to it. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to try it. I would just suggest a smaller dose to start off. I hope this advice he... ...

Is 30mg Morphine Sul Er able to be cut
1 Reply RSS
I am trying to decrease the pain meds I am taking. I was taking one 30mg tab twice daily. Recently I forgot and skipped a dose felt fine, I realized it had a half life but I was ok. So I've been at that dose for three day s and I'm still ok. Should I continue with 30mg once a day or should I cut one in half and take it twice a day. I thought I read that ER pills should not be cut. Is this true. Thank you ## That is correct, it is not safe to cut time released tablets, that could result in your getting too much medication, at once, and it could result in an overdose. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. However, you can speak to your doctor about tap... ...

Can you please tell me how to wean myself off? I really do not want to take them anymore l know l will just become more addicted to them. Can l cut my doseage down over a period of time until l stop completely? Please help! ## Hello, Natalie! How are you? Yes, a slow taper is usually best to minimize withdrawal symptoms, but you should follow your doctor's instructions for the best results. The FDA lists the typical withdrawal symptoms as possibly including nausea, fever, chills, rebound pain, drowsiness and diarrhea. However, if you're taking the time released tablets, you can't actually cut them, because tha... ...

50 mg morphine patch
2 Replies RSS
A 50mg morphine patch has been prescribed by an oncologist and is too strong for my uncle who has terminal stomach cancer. Is it o.k. to cut the patch in half? He is not in pain but is like a zombie. ## Hello, Christine! How is your uncle? No, that could result in his getting too much of the medication at once, which risks an overdose. How long has he been using them? The zombie like effect should improve, as his body gets used to the medication. But if it continues longer than a few weeks, then he should consult his doctor. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## You can fold part of the patch under just don't breach the seal this is how the weekend yo... ...

Getting off Morphine
2 Replies RSS
I need to get off Morphine...have been on 100mg twice daily for about 2 years. I only have a few pills left and am trying to wean myself off, but it is so hard. Is there anything i can do to make the withdrawal less painful? ## Hi Kathy, I know you only have a few pills left so this may or may not be a feasible option for you, but usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them over a period of several weeks, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for weeks at a time until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar to track your progress and keep you ... ...

No, you cannot cut, break or crush the time released tablets, that could cause you to get more of the medication, at once, which may result in a dangerous overdose. Can I take Tylenol p.m with morphine I had a morphine 30 I cut it n to 4ths and took a fourth then waited a hour and took another can I take 2 Tylenol p.m too? ## What formulation of Morphine are you taking? If it is the time released formulation, you should not be cutting it, because that creates the risk of your getting too much of the medication at once, which might result in overdose. The FDA warns that Morphine carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. As to taking it with the Tylenol PM, they can both cause sedation, so you may experience more dizziness and drowsiness than usual, thus it would be best to check with your doctor, before adding it, to make sure it is safe for you to do so. tylenol 4 vs morphine 15

I have a spinal stimulate with two leads in my back for damaged nerves, mostly on the left side. During back surgery the left side lead was cut, which not only cause more pain for the recovery but was not discovered for 2 weeks. Because of Christmas nothing can be done until Jan.19,2017. Tylenol 4 does ok but it does not last very long, certainly not one every 8 hours. The doctor wants to switch me to morphine 15mg every 8 hours. I do not want to hurt from now until surgery, but I do to want to have a difficult time getting off meds after surgery. I am ready to be well, happy and back to my normal life. Could you detail the differences between the two drugs and the after effects that will have to be over come after surgery in Jan. ## Rose, Happy New Years to you. It's very admirable... ...

Timed release morphine
3 Replies RSS
I just learned that a friends, yes seriously a friend, has for the last nine days taken a half of a 15mg extended relief morphine every day and was planning to intermittently take a whole one to hopefully avoid withdrawal. My friend is doing this because my friend is going on vacation and his prescription becomes due during the time he is away. Our state has instituted "drug contracts" with the prescribing doctor and pharmacy for people using these types of drugs. This means he can not have it filled early to take with him, and his doctors office has rules about calling for the script 48 hours maximum before it is due. He was only trying to make it last so he would not be in as much pain and not go through withdrawal. I was concerned because I know you are not supposed to cut an... ...
