In addition, you are creating the risk of developing antibiotic resistance, which may make them much less effective in the future. Have you tried just consulting your doctor to get something specifically formulated for topical use? ## I take Clindamycin prior to...

Would it still be good to take for an upper respiratory infection after 05/08/2015? ## Medications do tend to lose efficacy over time, so there is a chance that it may no longer adequately kill of all bacteria to eradicate the infection, thus, it would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription. The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have clindamycin hcl from 2008. Is it safe to take? ## According to MicroLabs USA, a manufacturer of generic medicine, their Clindamycin tablets have an expected shelf life of 48 months (or 4 years).? [3] However, when it comes to Clindamycin Phosphate, one source I found (Yashoda Hospitals - based in the UK) states that the expiration date of topical Clindamycin gel is only 60 days. [2] Additionally, other forms of topical Clindamycin (such as Clindamycin and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel) have a similar shelf life of 3 months, according to DailyMed. [3] That said, the form it comes in does play an important role in the drug's expected shelf life, efficacy and safety profile after so much time has passed. Hope this helps! ## I have clindamycin 150mg kept in the refrigerator from 3/4/2009....

Can I take Clindamycin HCL 300MG if it expired on 4/26/14? Thank you. ## Hi Dea, While some antibiotics like tetracycline can become toxic after they expire, my findings lead me to believe that Clindamycin doesn't and should also be fine having only been expired for 9 months. According to mhra.gov.uk, Clindamycin has a shelf life of 15 months. There's also an article in the LA Times Newspaper (which you can find online) stating that researchers from the California Poison Control System, UC San Francisco and UC Irvine did a study investigating a variety of old drugs and concluded that many of them are still ok to take even up to 28-40 years after the listed expiration date! That said, I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as it was stored properly and not lef...

can it be used after discard date ## It does not become dangerous, after the expiration date, but it will lose efficacy, meaning it won't work as well to treat an infection as it did, when it was new. This does create the possibility of developing antibiotic resistance. Therefore, you should see your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I can't afford a doctor but exp was a year ago. Will they hurt me? Woke up with a tooth abscess and that's y they were given to me in the first place. I have some clindamycin capsules from a year and 5 months ago, are they still good? ## Clindamycin loses effectiveness over time, which is why it has an expiration date of 1 year, once dispensed. I have an abscess tooth and was given Clindamycin about a month ago and finished it. Now the swollen face and pain is back and I have a prescription from 10/2013. Is it still good? And safe to take? Can't get into the dentist till next week. ## Hi Paula, If it were any other drug-class I might feel differently about how I answer this question, but when it comes to expired antibiotics specifically, I wouldn't encourage anyone to chance it. Because even if it is still good to a degree, the possibility off developing antibiotic resistant bacteria is always something you have to keep in mind... and the problem is that there's really no feasible way to know for certain if or how much it could've degraded since the expiration date. Have you considered looking into any other po...

Can I use clindamycin cream 4 months after it expired? What will happen of I use this expired medicinep ## There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But the question is whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the study......

my baby at 8 days old was diagnosed with MRSA in his eyes. We've been on iv antibiotics and when he was sent home he was prescribed clindamycin in an oral form. 2 1/2 ML for 5 days. Well the MRSA returned shortly after we finished the 5 days. So he is back on it for 10 days. My question is we are using the same bottle of clindamycin that is now 2 weeks old. Do we need to get a prescription for a new bottle of clindamycin? As you know MRSA is a nightmare and very hard to get rid of. I want him to be getting the best medication he can get. ## Hello, Jessica! How is your son doing?
