Chlo Tuss

I was originally prescribed hydromet which I know has a narcotic in it the pharmacy gave me chlo tuss liquid! From my research this product has no narcotic in it. It was originally prescribed to relieve my cough at bedtime and help me sleep. Please help is this the same or was I dooped at my pharmacy and this has no pain reliever!!! ## Amber, Chlo tuss liquid does NOT contain hydrocodone nor any other opiate type preparation. Your prior rx contained hydrocodone and was far more powerful.Chlo tuss is indicated for dry unproductive cough and is non habit forming. Why was chlo-tuss discontinued? I was prescribed this today and saw on the internet that it had been discontinued. ## I was prescribed Chlo Tuss Liquid and found out on this site that it was discontinued some time ago. Why was it "discontinued"? Was it a danger to patients, and why? Why is Chlo Tuss Liquid still prescribed and filled if it is discontinued? My symptoms: excessive nasal, sinus, chest congestion with night sweats, headache and body aches, excessive dry cough. The symptoms came suddenly within 8 hours of a dry scratchy throat. why can't this medicine be found today. It was the only thing that would stop my mom from coughing. She is 86 years old and coughs so violently that I am afraid it is going to kill her. Her Dr. has tried many things but to no avail nothing has worked. Her Dr. says that this medicine has been discontinued. I used to use Ru tuss to relieve my allergy symptoms and it was very effective. It is no longer available and nothing else I've tried works nearly as well. What is the dosage on the prescription? Tussionex also contains Hydrocodone with Chlorpheniramine, so it's likely close to what you've taken before. Ru Tuss is an allergy pill my husband used to take and it worked really well without making him sleepy. Even though current allergy medicine says no drowsiness, he still gets real sleepy. If I could find the ingredients, I would like to compare them to the new allergy medicine available. ## From what I can find, the original Ru-Tuss contained Chlorpheniramine and Phenylehprine, both of which are still available in various products over the counter, but you may have to buy them separately.

Does this have what is needed to assist with pluracy? ## Tussionex contains Chlorpheniramine, commonly used to treat allergies and Hydrocodone, a narcotic, commonly used in this manner to reliever coughing. That said, NO, Pleurisy is fluid around the lungs, neither one of these will treat that. is this what your doctor prescribed for you?

If med has expired, does that mean it's ineffective? Or stronger? Mine expired 10/09. Thank you. ## Hi Teri, Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. Tussionex contains a combination of Chlorpheniramine + Hydrocodone. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over 2 years old. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it.
