I was prescribed ciprofloxacin for five days by my dentist and on the forth day I suddenly developed severe lower back pain, and generalized aches and pain which have lasted for past month and only gradually beginning to subside. I only suspected the ciproxin when a friend was taking it for chest infection and developed pain in Achilles tendon and is finding it difficult to walk. ## I was prescribed ciprofloxin hcl 500 mg tabs for a tooth infection. So far I have taken 3 tabs. At this time I have had no side effects. ## Hi, Nancy! How are feeling? Can I take Ciprofloxacin for a tooth infection? I found some in the medicine cabinet from a previous Dr. Visit and was wondering if it would be effective??? ## Although Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections, it may be used for certain mouth or gum diseases, after a culture and sensitivity test is done. This will show the best antibiotic to treat the infection. (For example, Ciprofloxacin can effectively treat rare dental infections caused by the Enterobacteriaceae group of bacteria, but not others). So it may be a hit or miss if you still intend on using this medication. Dosages for dental purposes: The typical adult dose is 250 milligrams to 750 milligrams every 12 hours. I have a painful toothache. The dentist office is closed on Sunday. I have 1 ciprofloxacin 500 mg and cephalexin 500 mg. I don't know if they are okay to take for my toothache. ## Those are both antibiotics, used to treat various types of infections, so they may help, but it will not be enough to completely get rid of the infection and they will not treat pain. It is very important that you see a dentist to get to the root of the problem and, if needed, get enough antibiotics to clear up an infection. Are there any other questions?

I have a abcess tooth which one is best cipro septra or keflex? ## Hi Brenda, From what I could gather, Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections. So it's probably not the best choice as a first line treatment option.. Septra and Keflex on the other hand, are more commonly prescribed by dentists for tooth and other mouth related infections, due to their broader spectrum. You may want to talk with your doctor about either one of those last two options to see what works best. Sometimes the right decision has to come from trial and error, depending on how your body reacts to each medication. Have you taken either of these medications in the past?

is it good for toothaches? ## Ciprofloxacin is limited to the treatment of proven bacterial infections such as: -Urinary tract infections (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic) -Acute uncomplicated cystitis in females -Chronic bacterial prostatitis (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice) -Lower respiratory tract infections (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice) -Acute sinusitis (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice) -Skin and skin structure infections -Bone and joint infections -Infectious diarrhea -Typhoid fever (enteric fever) caused by Salmonella typhi Since it doesn't list tooth aches as a treatment option, I would definitely suggest looking into Clove Essential Oil.
