Can a 15 mg Meloxicam be cut in half? I have reactions to anti-inflammatory and would like to see if I can get by with 7.5 mg but already have a full bottle of 15 mg. ## Generally, if there is a score line on the pill, it is meant to be cut in half for these circumstances. But if there is not one, this can safely be done with any medication that is not time released and/or does not specifically instruct you not to do so. Just be sure to continue to take it as recommended by your doctor. ## Is Mobic (generic for meloxicam) time release ?...just wondering since it is once daily.

I only want to take half ofy op 15 can I cut it in half to swallow ## No, this is not considered safe, even though they are supposed to be formulated to prevent the release of all of the medication at once, they are supposed to be time released and there is always the possibility that cutting them could release too much at once, resulting in overdose, especially if you aren't used to taking narcotics. If you don't want to take the full dosage, at once, you should consult your doctor, because there is also a 10mg tablet available. This medication may cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, constipation and dry mouth. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments?

I am taking 2 mg dilaudid for sciatica and muscle spasms prescribed by my doctor. If i cut the 2 mg dilaudid in half and take the whole thing, will it work faster in my system? It is not time released. ## No, it will still take about 15 to 20 minutes to start working. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Monica, No that won't speed the analgesia effect derived from taking oral Dilaudid tablets. You may wish to speak to your provider about an alternate medication. Oral Dilaudid especially in small incremental doses has little analgesic effect when pain is nerve or muscular in nature. Parental or IV route of admi...

I have been on oxycodone 30mg for about 6 months now, its time for my refill and my pharmacy is having trouble keeping them in stock. I was givin 2 oxycontin 30mg op by a friend. But from all the bad reviews on the oxycontin im not sure i want to take the whole 30. Is cutting it in half safe? Will it be the same as taking 15mg? ## No, it is not safe to cut or break Oxycontin tablets. This is a time released formulation of the medication, so doing so could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which may result in overdose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I found a pill on the floor in my spare bedroom inside the closet. It is white and oval cut in half, so its hard to identify it on pill identifier.com. One half has PI and the other half side has 17. Anyone know what this is. ## WIth only a partial imprint, it is going to be difficult to determine exactly what this might be. There are several possibilities, both among prescription products and over the counter items. The best advice I can give is that you just dispose of it properly. Does anyone else recognize this tablet? ## @Girl26, There are 15mg Mirtazapine tablets with a similar description to what you had been able to identify. The full imprint on these tablets contain "WPI" on one side and "11" and "17" on the other side, separated by a vertical score line...

I thought maybe cutting tablet in half? Is it 'ok' to cut in half to try half a tablet? Thank You!! ;) ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? Did you resolve this situation, yet? What are the markings on the tablet in question? if my dosage of MS Contin is 15mg, but I only have 30mg -can I cut it in half? ## No, dont cut them they are time released. please dont cut them. ## Ed - Took the words right out of my mouth ! Never cut in half or crush anything that is time released, people have actually died by getting a toxic level. It should be on your bottle of med as a warning-sometimes it might be in the medicine info-if not please call your pharmacy so they can be aware that they forgot such an important detail. It would be awful if it is not on there as there could be others that wouldn't know & it was a new med & only wanted to take half to see how their body reacted to it & might cause a sometimes fatal event. I am glad you asked before you took it. God Bless.Hope you feel better soon! ## The ...

I need to know if I can cut my 15mg oxycodone pills in half? They are light green with 15 on one side and M in a box on the other side. The pills are scored, which makes me think that I can safely cut them in half. I don't want the full 15mg dose, would prefer only 7.5 by cutting in half if possible. ## Yes, this is a regular release Oxycodone, the generic for Roxicodone, so you can safely cut them in half. The only time it isn't safe is if a medication is time released, or there are instructions specifically saying not to do so, because some medications can cause severe stomach irritation and other problems if released too fast, such as Potassium tablets. You may experience side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. Read more: Are there any questions or...

I was just prescribed 15mg tablets for intermitten inflamation in my ankle. I am not very confortable with taking a 15mg tablet every day or even on an "as needed" basis. I wonder if I can split (cut) these tablets in half and still take it on an "as needed" basis? ## Hello, Dominick! How are you? Yes, you can do that, unless your doctor or pharmacist has given you some reason not to. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

can I cut a 30 milligram controlled morphine into 15 mg. Without all immediate effects? ## No, this is a time released formulation of Morphine, so it is not safe to break, crush or cut it, as that could result in getting to much of the medication at once, which may result in overdose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I started taking meloxicam 15mg and asked my pharmacist if I can cut it in half because the full 15mg was giving me a side effect of shortness of breath. I been taking half of it for a week now and have no side effects but my back is still in pain. Should I try taking the full 15mg or cut a half of a half in half and take a third of the pill for a week and then start taking the full dose ## Hi anna, With all due respect, these are very personal dosing questions you're asking that are probably best discussed between you and your doctor. However from what I understand, due to safety reasons, it is usually a good idea to start off small and then work your way up to higher doses from there. Some people can make that decision incrementally based off how they feel, but I find that even th...

I'm taking norco 10 mg 3 x day. I was taking 5 mg oxycodone along with the Norco at different times. I was starting to get no pain relief. My doctor recently changed me to 15 mg ir morphine tabs and now because it was not relieving the pain increased it to 30 mg er morphine taking it every 12 hrs. It's making me sick and not relieving the pain. Can I cut the er morphine pills in half safely. I'm still taking the Norco as needed. I've been taking pain Meds for 7 yrs for chronic pain and I can't go on like this. ## No, the ER means that they are time released, so it is not safe to cut or break them. If a 15mg. morphine E. R. were cut & taken into half of a half would that harm a person? ## Hello, Ariel! How are you? No, you cannot cut, break or crush the time released tablets, that could cause you to get more of the medication, at once, which may result in a dangerous overdose. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I've been on oxycodone 30's (120) and (240) methadone 10mg for 10 years, then out of nowhere they cut my meds in half. It was the worst time ever to punish me for not going in for an MRI on my back. They have other MRIs from me but I was passing a kidney stone at the time and had Lyme disease messing with every part of my body and brain... Eyes & muscles twitching along with 24/7 joint pain. It was so extreme to mess my body and mind up with awful withdrawals. I wasn't diagnosed with Lyme disease till a year later. Half my vision's gone and I can barely walk in a mall for no more than 10-15 minutes. I find it hard standing to cook or do dishes, as my back goes totally berserk. It's more painful to lie down on my new bed than to sit up and roll my back in downward...

Yes, they are Subutex 153 half moon and the are shaped like a surf board. They work way better then Suboxone strips. People keep saying they cut the strips into millions of pieces, if that is the case you don't need them in the first place. This new one orange Subutex 153 half moon surf board shape ones last way longer, and work great (oh my god they work so great!) I recommend them to anyone using the white ones or the strips, they both suck compared to the new ones. Take it of leave it but it's the truth. If you take just a half it will last you two days...unreal. ## For these subutex do they taste disgusting like the strips. As of May 1st our physician decided not to do subutex anymore. Luckily I just had my baby I am worried about breastfeeding. An hate the taste of Suboxone...

I have been on Bupropion 150mg XL for years and am now switching to 75mg SR but cutting the 150mg SR pill (MU12) in half per my doctor's directions. Is it safe to cut the pill and take it on a daily basis? The official Mylan site says not to, but that was my doctor's directions. Would like to get other opinions before I start. ## Hello, Gary! How are you? Well, only your doctor can speak to their own rationale, but my best guess would be that since you've already been taking the higher dosage, they don't see much risk of your overdosing by cutting this tablet. Unless you're taking the whole tablet, you won't get the full 150mgs. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and nervousness. H...

can a morphine so4 15 mg, sa tablet be cut in half? ## Hello, William! How are you? No, you cannot cut them. The SA stands for sustained action, which means it is a time released formulation and cutting or breaking it could cause you to get too much of the medication at once. My pain mgt MD gives me oxycodone IR 30mg but I cut in two and see if pain goes below 5 of 10 after 1 hr after first dose of half tab, if not I then take the other half. So far since my leg reconstruction surgery 7 weeks ago I have needed the full 30mg every time. Here is my question: Will I get a longer time of pain relief and thus a longer time period of my sense of well being when pain is gone by (1) taking the 30mg at single dose q 4 hrs or by (2)taking 15mg q 2 hrs, of course not taking the 2nd 15mg dose if pain<5? It seems to be cumulative but not in any consistent way that I can get a pattern tracked for optimal benefit? I was an RN for many years prior to CVA a few years ago, so am familiar with some of this but of course individual results vary. Thanks ## If your doctor app...
