I'm taking Dilaudid 4mg four times a day, and was prescribed Nucynta 50mg twice a day for breakthrough pain since Darvon was taken off the market. I'm not getting any relief from the Nucynta. Could you recommend anything else for the breakthrough pain that isn't an NSAID, which I cannot take due to liver disease? I sure do miss Darvon. ## There are quite a few options on the market to treat pain that do not contain NSAIDs. Have you tried Tramadol? It is also a centrally acting analgesic, like the Nucynta, and is also non-narcotic, it is available by itself, without any NSAIDS: There are also many other narcotics on the market, without NSAIDs that could be used to treat breakthrough pain, such as an instant release Oxycodone or Morphine: Has your doctor suggested anything els...

I used to take Low-Ogestrel as my birth control but then switched to the Brazilian equivalent of Femodene (it is called Diminut there but the hormone levels are the same as that of Femodene). I had no problems with my first pack, but towards the end of my second pack I started to experience breakthrough bleeding. It was light at first, but now I am almost halfway through my third pack and the bleeding is daily, continuous, and heavy. It is not a red flow but very dark and viscous. I do not know what to do to make it stop. It seemed to stop for a day after my actual period during the inactive time but then it started again and got worse. Should I stop taking this birth control? ## I am having the same problem with breakthrough bleeding taking Low-Ogestrel, and I have had the same problem...

I am taking 15mg MS Contin 4 times a day and I still have several periods of severe pain that come out of nowhere. They usually last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and can be so severe that they bring me to my knees. Could this be breakthrough pain? I have an appointment with my pain doctor in the morning, but I want to see what others think so I can try to be prepared when I talk to him. I want to ask for something for these periods of severe pain. What works best with MS Contin? Thanks for your help! ## Yes, breakthrough pain is quite normal for someone to experience, when they suffer from something that causes severe and/or chronic pain. There are several medications that you can try to help with it, when it hits like that. Most doctors usually use an instant release medication ...

I have both prescriptions, opana 5mg and hydrocodone 10.325 in which I have been on for awhile for hip and back pain. I dont think the hydro works to well and has a short live and thinking about switching to opana in which I have. Any suggestions please, what does opana feel like vs. hydro ## When it comes to questions such as this, there is really no way for anyone to say how you may feel, when you take a certain medication, or how well it will work for you. I've been taking this pill for nearly 4 years and I've never had a problem until now. I am having my first ever breakthrough bleeding. I know a lot of people have them and I'm probably worried over nothing, but because it's never happened before it seems a bit out of the blue! It's super painful and I'm going through tampons every hour or so. It literally poured out at first. I bled during intercourse the last time as well, that was about a month ago. I'm not due for a checkup for 6 months and it's difficult to get appointments so I don't want to go for no reason... Any ideas? ## Hello, Biff! How are you doing? Has there been any change? You really need to go have this checked out. That severe bleeding is not normal breakthrough bleeding for oral cont...

Hey there! This is my first time on birth control. I've decided to go with Loestrin Fe. I started my period at 2am on a Monday, but didn't take it until 10:30 that night. It was twenty hours after I started, not 24, so it's okay! Anyway, I've been on my period the entire time. I started on April 7th and it's April 15th today. Before birth control, my period lasted six days. It's my eighth day and I'm still bleeding. Is this breakthrough bleeding and my body getting adjusted to the pill? Just making sure! I've taken the pill every night at 10:30pm so I haven't missed one. Thanks! ## Hello, Kaitlyn! How are you? Are you still experiencing bleeding? Yes, it could be due to the contraceptive, since you just started it. However, if it keeps going as a full...

I've been taking oralcon for two years now. I finished my period on 23 november and started with the white pill but on 4 december I started getting pains around my waist (period pains) and later I started to bleed so I decided to just take the red pill. Now I'm bleeding a lot should I continue with the red pill or should I start the white pill on a new packet. Please help angie ## Hello, Angie! How are you doing? If you are bleeding a lot, then you need to consult your doctor to have things checked out. Your natural hormone levels can change with time, so this contraceptive may no longer work well for you and you may need to try a different one.

Had a car crash two weeks ago. I broke my neck, shattered my left foot and had knee surgery three weeks ago. I have been on 60mg. Of methadone fora year now. Big issue finding a pain killer to help with acute pain. Doctor gave me fives, have to take 10 at a time. I need help here. ## What type of doctor are you seeing? If it's just a surgeon or general practitioner, he may not know how to properly manage pain, since that isn't his speciality. Learn more Methadone details here. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Under the newly enforced laws, if you're in chronic pain, you'll have to seek treatment from a pain management specialist, as regular doctors and surgeons will only be allow to provide pain medications for a very short period of time.

I started taking Nur-Isterate 200g on 12/07/16 and on 07/09/16 l had my menses. What should l do? ## As reported by the U.S. FDA, that can be a normal side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. These side effects may continue for about 3 months, or so, before they go away. However, if they worsen, or don't go away, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am disabled in NE Florida and have been on a pain management regime for about 12 years now. I am currently prescribed and using two differing pain medications in this ongoing he'll of trying to stay ahead of the often unbearable pain. I take Morphine every 12 hours-ALWAYS, and Percocet when needed for the stingy pain days. I also down Ibuprofen like it's candy. Because of this, my stomach has become SEVERELY intolerant of it lately when I have to take the Percocet for breakthrough pain. My physician has attributed this to too much Acetaminophen given that it is added to the fact that I already take so much Ibuprofen as well regularly. He switched my breakthrough med from Percocet (10/325) to Oxycodone 5mg I capsules since it'll cut down on my Acetaminophen intake immensely...

Rather than wait another month I started first pack of Lo Loestrin Fe 2 days after my period ended (started Sunday). Then I started spotting lightly 2 weeks later (very dark brown and very light). Then another week later I got my period which was this past Saturday. It's now Wednesday and the period is very heavy in the am and then almost goes away all day and then heavy again at night. Is this normal? I feel like it's going to go on forever. Normally my period is 3-4 days max and super heavy which is why I started Lo Loestrin. ## Hello, Kimber! How are you? Yes, according to the FDA, such breakthrough bleeding can be normal and may occur, off an on, for the first 3 months, after starting a new oral contraceptive. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizzi...

Hi all...I was recently referred by my PCP to a PDoc and had my 1st appr. 2 days ago. I have questions regarding the "appropriate" and "inappropriate" quid pro quo between my new physician and my continued chronic pain management. I've been a A LOT of different pain meds, as I'm sure most of us have, but most recently switched from Norco 10/325 x 12day to MS Contin 15mg SR 2x/day along with Norco 10's 8x/day. Question: My next appt. isn't for 27 days and I'm receiving NO relief from the Morphine whatsoever. So, should I make a "pain log" until next appt. and address the effectiveness (or lack thereof) then, or send the Dr. a message via his online patient portal now? ## Hi Bothgop, Sorry to hear that the morphine hasn't been working for yo...

I take 75mg MS Contin, handles steady relief. My breakthrough pain was not under any control with 15mg morphine IR. Instead of increasing that med the Dr. wanted to change it up. Leaving the morphine ER the same he added 10/325 Norco. I get a couple minute euphoria which I cannot stand. I start feeling severe sick feeling. The pain is eased. The head and stomach's strange feeling last an hour or so. Aren't the comparisons equal? If so why would one effect me so much. I do have sensitivities to medications. I just don't want to mix up my pain stability trying to find a med to relieve the breakthrough. My Fibromyalgia flares need to be shut down quick. Finally to my questions. Do you think or know of these side effects lasting extended time? Having these side affects with the ...

I started taking Lo Loestrin FE on 10/12/13, the Sunday after my last period. This Wednesday I started bleeding brown a little, but only when I wiped. Now it's Friday and I'm bleeding even more, but I shouldn't have my period for another week and a half. Is this just my body adjusting or should I stop taking it and as my gyno for something else? ## Hello, Katrina! How are you? Yes, it can take about 3 months for your body to get used to these hormonal contraceptives and breakthrough bleeding is very common during that time period. However, it is best to consult your doctor to be sure that there's nothing else unusual going on. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes thank you so much! I have been on this pill for over 2 years. The past few months I have had breakthrough bleeding at some time in the month. Can the pill start becoming ineffective? I am under a lot of stress right now and about to graduate college. ## Have you consulted your doctor? It should remain effective, as long as you are taking it daily, as you are supposed to do. However, the stress can have some effect on the hormones in your body and may cause menstrual irregularities, such as breakthrough bleeding, even if you weren't taking hormonal contraceptives. ## Talk to your doctor. I have been on loestrin 24 fe for almost 4 years and have been having similar issues over the last 6 months or so. My doctor said its still effective but sometimes your body/medication rhythm just needs to be "rese...

Is 1 to 2 tabs daily too much? Feel I need it twice daily ## Which one are you referring to? The Opana? If so, this is a very potent narcotic pain medication, containing Oxymorphone and it can be dangerous to exceed the recommended dosage prescribed by your doctor, you run the risk of overdose and causing permanent organ damage. If it is not controlling your pain, you should speak to your doctor about a dosage adjustment or possibly using a different medication. You can read more on both of these medications here: What is your current dosing schedule? ## I am prescribed OPANA ER 40 Mg 4 x daily as well as another pain med too.

please explain window period and breakthrough bleed in context of taking DRONIS 20? ## In relation to birth control, a window period usually refers to the period of time when you should take the tablets, each day. You should try to take them at the same time, but you do have a window period of several hours to take them, before it would be enough time where you would have to treat it the same as missing a pill. Breakthrough bleeding refers to any type of bleeding that may occur, while your body is getting used to the hormones in the tablets. It may appear as just light bleeding, commonly called spotting, or it may be heavier and seem like a normal period flow. Are there any other questions I can help you with?

I take 1 Opana 20 mg every 12 hours, plus 1-2 tabs of Vicodin 7.5 for breakthrough pain. Does anyone think that's being over medicated? ## Hello, Chick! How are you? No, that is a typical dosing regimen for people with chronic pain. It should be fine, as long as your doctor approves. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?
