I have copd and have developed bronchitis over the last week or so. I am allergic to penicillin. My doctor believes the bronchitis is bacterial and has prescribed a medication that the prescription insert says "May cause serious lung problems. Tell your doctor if you develop a cough, shortness of breath, or chest pain" all of which I have with copd and bronchitis. He also prescribed 5 days of prednisone and a pro air inhaler. What would be the best antibiotic given this information. (The medication is sulfameth/trimethoprim 800160mg TB.) ## There are risks associated with all medications and that warning is usually included with most antibiotics, due to the possibility of hypersensitivity reactions, thus, I really don't know what I could suggest that might be safer for you. ...

I have been sick for a week. I have been coughing a lot & wheezing. I have a lot of phlegm but can't cough it up. I started using essential oils & it seems to be helping some. Could I have pneumonia? ## It is possible, however, there are also other possibilities, according to the NIH, such as a cold, asthma, congestive heart failure, bronchitis, and etc. However, only your doctor can give you a definitive diagnosis. And regardless of which condition might be causing these symptoms, essential oils are not going to cure it. Viruses will have to run to their course, and other conditions will require medical treatment. Has there been any change? ## please go see a doctor. they can listen to lungs and get an xray to see if you have pneumonia. that's what they did for me and i...

Can I take Clindamycin 300mg to treat bronchitis? ## Hello, Bruce! How are you? Yes, this is an antibiotic that can treat various bacterial infections, so it's fine if your doctor prescribed it for you. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, if your doctor hasn't prescribed it, then you shouldn't take it, because many cases of bronchitis are caused by viruses and antibiotics will have no effect on them. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I read my bottle wrong and I've been taking clindamycin every 4 hrs when I was supposed to take it 4 times daily. Will I be ok?

I have bronchitis. I was given amoxicillin a week ago to take for dental work and I still have 16 left. Can i take this? ## Hello, Laverne! How are you? Why didn't you finish the antibiotic prescription for the dental work? Not doing so creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistance as explained in various NIH research articles. As to taking it for the bronchitis, it depends on how severe it is and whether or not it is bacterial in origin. It would be best to see your doctor to make sure an appropriate medication is prescribed, if one is necessary. The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

I was given this drug for severe bronchitis and it has left me so tired. Will it help if I keep taking it? ## It sounds like the Doxycycline is really working hard on your system for you to be so tired. I felt a similar tiredness while taking a different antibiotic, so it's definitely not uncommon to feel that way. If you're already a few days into taking it then I would suggest continuing the treatment your doctor recommended until you're finished with the prescription. This will ensure that the bacteria doesn't end up building a resistance to antibiotics. How long have you been taking it for?

Never had a problem with antibiotics. This one gave me cdif. I am still trying to get rid of cdif after six weeks and two more rounds of flagyl. ## I am not sure what cdif is. My daughters grandmother had taken omnicf - for a sinus infection... after taking this she has lost her sense of smell. It has been 10-months and still nothing. ## I had a terrible reaction to Ciprofloxin 15 yrs ago, and still carry the reminders in huge, red spots all over my legs. It caused a bone-deep itch that could not be reached, which lasted weeks. And after that, I was also allergic to sulfas. Cipro is a dangerous drug and should only be used as last-resort! It is a synthetically-produced one, and very strong. Oh, it cured my bronchitis, all right, but it left me permanent reminders of that illness! Good r...

My father has a chest infection of an undiagnosed sort. The doctor prescribed a 5-day antibiotic (large white, long tablet) which I cannot recall the name of and need to -- in order to describe to the 'new' doc what my dad has taken for the problem (which has yet to cease). I do know that when I read the pamphlet, "anthrax" was listed, along with sinusitis, bronchitis, etc. for reasons the antibiotic is given. Any chance you can give me an idea of what the antibiotic might be? I'm quite sure it began with the letter "L"... Lexo... or something like that. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? Was it possibly Levofloxacin? That's one that meets all the criteria that you've described. Can you please post back and let me know? Thanks!

I thought the cefdinir would have kept me from having an abscessed tooth since I'm already on it for bronchitis. Why isn't it working for both? My tooth has a cap on it but needs the cap removed and a root canal done and a cap replaced... ## With the cap still on the tooth, there is a chance that it isn't able to properly drain to allow the infection to fully clear up. A dental abscess forms a pocket down in the roots, similar to that formed by a cyst, and it has to drain, or be drained, to clear out the bacteria that has caused the infection. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Cefdinir as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. You may need another round of antibiotics, once the cap is removed, and the root canal is done....

Hello, I'm taking an antibiotic for bronchitis. The active ingredient is Co-trimoxazole. I was wondering if there may be interactions with birth control pills? Thanks ## Hello, Naraka! How are you? If you're taking a contraceptive that contains a form of estrogen, such as one of the combined oral ones, then yes, it can lower the efficacy of them and there have been instances were women got pregnant, due to taking antibiotics, so it would be best to use a backup method of contraception, until 7 days after you have finished the antibiotic. Side effects to the Co-Trimoxazole may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
