I have a script for amoxicillin 500mg every 6 hours. What are the most beneficial times to take them? I was thinking 6am, 12, 6pm and so forth. ## There are no specific beneficial times, so you can take them whenever it works best for you, just try to be as precise as possible to the every 6 hour dosing. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks! I set up a reminder to take it every six hours.

I can't swallow this cipro 500mg tab (it's too big). Says not to cut, or chew it. It is a slow release med. Can I just cut it into 2 pieces and then take one half now and the other half 2 hrs later so that I don't get too much at once? I am supposed to take 2/day along with amoxicillin 500mg 3/day for a bad tooth infection that has spread into my lower jaw causing tinnitus in one ear. ## Hello, Zubs! How are you? Sorry about the severe infection. No, if it says not to cut, crush or break it, then you shouldn't do so, unless your doctor, dentist or pharmacist says it's okay for you to do so, other than possibly getting to much, some can be very harsh on your stomach and GI tract, which could cause bleeding and/or ulcers. Does this mean every 8 Hours were possible as someone was told it after breakfast, Lunch & tea being in my case 7.00am, 1.00pm and 7.00pm this gives you 6 hours between Breakfast and Lunch and 6 hours between lunch and Tea(dinner) & then 12 Hours between Tea and Breakfast Does this matter??? ## Hello, Jj! How are you? The dosing doesn't have to be precisely spaced. Every 8 hours when possible would be great, but if you just take them with meals, that would also be fine. My family doctor prescribed 4 Amox/K 500-125 Tab to be taken at one time before a dental procedure because of my heart problems. Is this safe to take 4 pills at one time. ## Hi Lois, According to the drug monograph for that 500mg tab, the dosing indications are listed at 1 tablet every 8 hours for 7-10 days. However, on the stronger version of this medication, the maximum recommended dose is listed at 1 tablet of Amoxicillin (875mg) + clavulanic acid (125mg) every 12 hours for 7 - 10 days. Based on that, it sounds to me like you took a few too many at one time. If you start feeling any repercussions from having done that, you may want to look into getting some probiotics.
