There are some medications that are made for canines, which aren't manufactured to human standards, so it may not be safe for you to take, additionally, if you don't have enough to finish a full course of treatment, it creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. And while an antibiotic can help with the infection, it will not fix the underlying cause of the infection, such as a deep dental cary, so it will just keep returning, until you see your dentist and have it corrected. And when they direct you to keep it away from animals, they mean don't let them get ahold of it and eat the whole package, or let them get ahold of ones that aren't prescribed for them. I just finished taking Amox-Clav 875MG. for 7, days, 2 a day for a dog bite. 2 days after taking my last pill, I have become very sick with diarrehea, and feel like I have a fever, but do not. So I just got prescribed this antibiotic for a dog bite and I have used amoxicillin before but it has never worked for me for anything I have used it for. And yes it is something that may be prescribed by veterinarians to cats/dogs alike in respective dosages. However, according to Dr. Foster and Smith Pharmacy, the human form of this medication reportedly contains more Clavulanate than the veterinary form.
