I was started on Multaq after ablation got my heart to beat normally. I has previously been in Afib 62% of every day. The ablation did not last very long and I am again in Afib most of the time. My doctors want me to continue the Multaq just the same. My only symptom is fatigue. ## Multaq contains the active ingredient Dronedarone and it is used to treat irregular heartbeat, including Atrial Fibrillation and your doctor probably wants you to continue taking it, because they fear worsening or your condition, if you stop. In addition, a sudden withdrawal of these types of medications, that affect heart function, can result in rebound effects, which could cause your condition to worsen and put you in life threatening danger. Are there any other questions? ## Some background first...... My ...

Experiencing Pain in my calf & leg muscles during the daytime. During the night, I wake up with leg muscles twitching. Get up, go to bathroom, back to bed & back to sleep. Cardiologist has had me on 20mg Xarelto/day for approximately 2 years for afib but haven’t had any negative reactions till now. Could Xarelto be the cause? Should I be concerned? ## Yes, there is a chance that it could be due to the medication, but there is no way to give you a definitive answer. The FDA does list its possible side effects as including joint/muscle aches, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. What dosage are you currently taking? Are you on any other medications? How often have you been experiencing these symptoms? ## I’m on 20mg/daily Xarelto. Have been on this ...

My Dr is reducing my diltiazem from 120 twice a day to once a day, and says he is concerned about this water retention. I am on Jed's for the water retention and I am concerned that my heart rate will go bonkers. ## I am concerned that by reducing my daily dose of diltiazem (120)twice a day to just one dose of 120 will cause my heart to go back into Afib.the doctor is concerned with the edema in my legs,he has me on a diuretic.,and has me on just once a day with the 120 dose of diltiazem.( just started). I am also on metropol 75 twice a day. ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions and the only thing you can really do is take the dosage they have told you to take and see what happens. Since you are on the other medications, they should help prevent a dangerous s...

I’m taking hydrocodone for sciatica until I get approval for my injection. Now I’m having severe nausea, constipation, dizziness and a bout of Afib. Anyone else face this horrible situation? Thanks. ## It is an opiate, and they are known to raise the risk of someone experiencing Afib, according to FDA reports. The nausea, dizziness, and constipation are also common side effects, along with headache, and dry mouth. It also carries the risk of being habit forming. What injection are you looking into? Can you post back and be more specific? That would enable me to provide you with more information. Are you on any other medications?

Sotalol is keeping my husband out of afib. His pulse rate is low (47 to 55) 'gave it to him in emergency room. Didn't, even know he was in afib found out at doctor visit. I am very worried about size effects would. Like to know if other people are taking it and if they are comfortable with it ## Hello, Silver star! How are you and your husband? He should consult his doctor regarding his low heart rate, it may be indicative of a problem and is usually included in the warnings that come with this medication. As to whether or not others are comfortable with it, it varies from person to person and usually depends on whether or not they experience a lot of side effects. The FDA lists the typical ones as possibly including nausea, blurred vision, sweating and weakness. What side effec...

I was diagnosed in 2006 with a-fib and was on metoprolol along with another that I forget. In 2014 I had to get a new cardiologist, he put me on sotalol 120mg 2 x per day and 60 mg once per day. Then in 2017 my pulse was into the low 40s so now I have a pace maker. I still have a-fib once an while. My Dr. said it will never will go away. I also have had 2 abaltions, been converted half dozen times. All I can say about a-fib is you will learn to live with it. Because as all the Drs. say is a-fib will not kill us. ## Hello, Gene! How are you doing? Given the multiple issues you've had and your requiring a pacemaker to be installed, your a-fib must be pretty severe. If left untreated a-fib can be fatal, since it can cause poor blood flow, which could result in stroke, and cardiac dange...

Has anyone heard of Pradaxa being used for blood clot patients who don't have atrial fibrillation? Primarily to achieve the benefits of no frequent blood testing? ## Pradaxa contains the active ingredient Dabigatran, which is just another oral anticoagulant. Learn more Pradaxa details here. You can even look at the information at the link I provided and it lists it as sometimes being used as an alternative to Warfarin, since it doesn't require the frequent tests. There are several others under investigation for this use, as well. Are there any other questions or comments?

I WAS PLACED ON ELIQUIS FOR PROVOKED DVT FROM A KNEE INJURY. SEVERE FATIGUE AND HEADACHE ON THIS MED. SWITCHED TO LOVENOX. WITHIN 5 DAYS OF STARTING, I DEVELOPED INCREASED HEART RATE, FLUTTER AND AFIB. STRESS TEST SHOWS NO CAD AND NEG CT FOR PE. I FEEL THE SXS ARE FROM THE DRUG. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE. ALSO HAVE CHILLS EVERY EVENING. ## Lovenox has been known to cause Afib as a side effect, according to FDA warnings, as well as heart failure, increased risk of bleeding, anemia, and easy bruising. As to the chills, it has also been known to cause a fever. Have you consulted your doctor about trying a different medication? There are some news ones available that might work better for you.

Do I still need to take my losartan now that I am on diltiazem and digoxin for Afib? ## What has your doctor advised? What have your blood pressure readings been? How's the a-fib? The Losartan is an ARB and the Doltiazem is a calcium channel blocker and while they both treat the same types of conditions, they are often used together to help enable better control of them. Thus, one shouldn't be stopped, without your doctor's approval and supervision. Are there any other questions or comments?

Hi, I am an Indian, age 78, 5'7" in height and weigh 60 kg. I'm a vegan, I do yoga and light exercise. All parameters pathological test reports normal except that I've been on high blood pressure medicine for over 20yrs. Previously I was taking atenolol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg, whereas my blood pressure was quite controlled. About 4 years back symptoms of Afib developed. Doc prescribed telma CT 40/6.25mg, metoprolol 50 + cilacar 10 and xeralto 20 in the morning and telma 40 in the evening. My BP still ranges around 150/95, no improvement in Afib - which repeats every month or so. Is it not a case of being over-medicated? Can I go back to just taking amlodipine? How do I get rid of Afib? Are there any changes you can suggest? ## It is really hard to say, and it would be b...

I take Xarelto for AFIB ...I have a cold with a bad cough. Can I take iophen-C-NR for my cough? ## Hello, Don! How are you? Iophen-C NR contains Codeine and Guaifenesin, so no, you shouldn't take it without your doctor's approval. The Guaifenesin can sometimes affect your heart rhythm and may be dangerous for those with a pre-existing heart condition. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? There are some products available that are made for those with hypertension or cardiac issues, such as Coricidin HBP, so you may want to ask your doctor about taking it for your cold symptoms.

I have Afib and was prescribed amox clav 875 for an upper respertory infection, I was wondering if it was safe to take it. ## Hi deb, According to the FDA, the only contraindications listed for Amoxicllin and Clavulanate Potassium are in patients who have a history of allergic reactions to penicillin, as well as patients with a history of "associated cholestatic jaundice hepatic dysfunction"; neither of which pertain to A-fib in my understanding. And odds are if your doctor prescribed it then you should be fine. However it's always a good idea to ask your doctor for a second opinion before taking anything that you're unsure about. Hope this helps! ## Thanks so much for the info, I feel better knowing that

Hello - my dad was treated for prostate cancer 5 years ago via radiation and is in remission. He also is dealing with atrial fibrillation and is taking eliquis to counteract this. However, he recently has been bleeding quite a lot / passing blood in his urine / passing bloodclots and just had to have a transfusion to fight against the blood loss. The doctors are trying to find a remedy to stop this bleeding (they have said that around 5 years post prostate radiation treatment blood in your urine and clots can occur). The main issue is that my dad does not want to stop his eliquis in fear of a stroke and obviously wants to cease the non stop bleeding he is passing through his urine. Has anyone else experienced this? Prostate cancer with bleeding years later / A-fib / eliquis where they h...

I was having extreme fatigue, joint pain, muscle weakness after starting Eliquis and started to having black stool with nausea and abdominal pain. I gradually reduced the dose until no longer taking Eliquis nor ever will. It really put a fear in me. Asprin works for me via my AFIB. I can tell if my blood is too thick when my heart is working hard to pump the blood out of my heart. I feel much better when my heart is pumping normally when the blood is thinner. You sometimes have to insist to your doctor the side effects you are feeling, this is a fairly new medication. Anyone else have these side effects? ## Yes, you are not the first person to post about these types of problems with it. If the Aspirin is working well for you, then it is likely a good idea to stick with it, unless your d...

Had afib since 2006. Had a cardiac ablation 1 week ago. Dr put me 50mg of flecainide a day. 5 days later started severe lower back pain and severe lower a dominant pain. So bad today I had to be taken to ER in ambulance. Blood work and CT scan were normal. Heart rate was 160 in ambulance. Was released and told the pain is muscle skeletal issue. Still in lots of pain. Is this related to the flecainide? ## Hello, Traci! How are you? I'm sorry that you're so miserable. Yes, those symptoms could be due to the medication. It has been known to cause those side effects in some people that take it, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, headache, constipation, weakness and blurred vision. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to try a different medication.

My afib was diagnosed just a few months ago, and because I have two stents, They kept me off Cumadin and let me still take Plavix and aspirin, and put me on Multaq 400 twice a day. Just a few days ago I began to halucinate two three times a day. Can Multaq cause Halucinations? ## Multaq contains the active ingredient Dronedarone and is most commonly used to treat irregular heartbeat. And no, from what I have researched on it, it is not listed as having any mental side effects, however, you should consult your doctor to be certain. Have you contacted your doctor, yet? Hallucinations could be the sign of some serious medical conditions, such as a small stroke, which especially a concern since you are on blood thinners. Anytime you experience such an unusual occurence, you should contact y...

I have Afib and was on warfarin for 5 years. Got tired of keeping up with Vit K so went on Zarelto. My fingers on my right hand after about a week swelled up and hurt and so did my right arm. I called doctor and he put me on Eliquis, I've got no better, infact now it's in my left hand too. Anyone had any problems with joints swelling with Eliquis. I could use information on how long this swelling will last after getting off either of those drugs. Thanks so much Belle ## Hello, Belle! How are you doing? Has there been any improvement, yet? That's not something listed among the typical side effects, according to the FDA. It has been known to cause edema, but usually of the feet and ankles. Many people have had it cause severe joint pain, which forced them to switch to a differ...

I am 67 and have afib. I am put on eliquis, but ever since I have been on eliquis I am having very bad lower back, hip, shoulder, ankle etc. pain!! I will be having an ablation in the very near future. When my heart returns to normal I will stop eliquis. I will be taking Tattokinase. It is a natural enzyme that gets the job done without the side effects. Please reserch about the benefits of nattokinase on the internet and get educated about it; it would take me too long to explain things about it here. And tell your doctor about it, demand that he would look into getting informed about it instead of pushing dangerous pharmaceuticals on you!! Nattokinase is a very effective blood thinner, it is natural with NO side effects. Since no body makes big money from it, it is discouraged by big ...
