My doctor put me on Xifaxan 3 X daily for 14 days because he had no samples. Walgreens called to inform me my copay is $844.00 which I can't pay! I know this works for SIBO bc I've had samples from him before. The cost of this antibiotic is excessive! ## I have now spoken with 3 pharmacist about coupons etc about cost of this Xifaxin! Without my Part D plan my insurance said my cost would be $4500. 14 days supply! Even the insurance rep tried to help but nothing anybody can do. Across the board this medicine is too costly! Many people have SIBO/ IBS & need this med. Our government should step up & help the seniors with these Big Pharm. Unless you are on Medicaid or have SSI or other subsidy you are screwed. Most seniors are barely making it on minimum social security as ...

I stopped taking Xifaxan. How long until the bloating goes away? ## Xifaxan is an antibiotic, and its other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. It may take a week, or two for the gas/bloating to fully go away, depending on how long you were taking it. Are you on any other medications? ## You might try taking probiotic capsules such as Florastor since that brand is able to survive the onslaught of antibiotics on your system. It's important to keep the "good" flora in your digestive system and could help to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Does anyone know where I could get prescribed samples of this medicine? My dr. had enough for me to last 4 days and I'm supposed to take 3 pills a day for 14 days. I need 30 more pills. I live in Dallas, Texas. Please help. The cost for me to get this med is 400.00 with my insurance which is out of reach for me. ## Hi Bella, You could try asking your doctor for samples. Sometimes doctors carry sample packets of the medications they most often prescribe when they're given them directly from the manufacturer's drug representative to offer to prospective patients. Also, if your doctor prescribed a 14 day course of treatment, I don't see why they would only write you a prescription for 4 days? I think there definitely needs to be an open line of communication between you and...

Can this antibiotic be used to treat an infection of the molar tooth? ## Hello, Celeste! How are you? Sorry about the dental issue. No, this antibiotic really has very limited use and isn't likely to help with a dental infection. Additionally, no antibiotic will fix whatever underlying issue has caused the infection, so you need to see a dentist, anyway, Is there anything else I can help with?

In the US I am prescribed Xifaxan 550mg made by Salix Pharmaceuticals twice daily to prevent hepatic encephalitis (very dangerous disorder caused by liver disease). The problem is this drug costs $1,800 USD per month, which I cannot afford. However, through reputable Canadian pharmacies carry Rifaximin 550 mg made by Lupin Limited of Idia for only $130 USD per month. My best research seems to indicate that these are the exact same drug but that Lupin licensed the US sales and marketing rights to Salix, thus the dramatic price differential. Can anyone confirm that Rifaximin 550 is the EXACT same drug as Xifaxan 550? My life depends upon finding an affordable and safe substitute. Thank you for any assistance regarding this matter. ## Hello, Mark! How are you? Yes, they are the same, Xifax...

Found these small blue pills with sx on one side and blank on the other. What are they? ## The only pill that comes up as a possible match is brown and not blue. It has the same marking "sx" on one side and blank on the other. This brown pill is identified as Xifaxan (200 mg); which is used to treat hepatic encephalopathy, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, traveler's diarrhea, and crown's disease. It is manufactured by Salix Pharmaceuticals. You can click on the links below to learn more about this drug: Does this seem like a possible match?
