## my mum was put on this drug for a water infection, only took it for two day's and was in terrible pain in her stomach, she has lost her appitite, lost two and a half stone in weight, this was seven weeks ago and thing's are not improving for her, her doctor say's the symptom's are due to her stroke which she had seven week's previous to the water infection, which we don't agree with as her appitite was very good up to taking the tablet's. I was given Trimephoprim to be taken twice daily for 3 days for a severe uti,however I have developed the most dreadful water like diarrhoea , is this coincidence or is it like the medication that has caused this? ## Hello, Michelle! My 15-year old son has been taking this drug for about 8 months. He is a perfectly normal boy developmentally and has no alergies to any drug. He is big for his age, but a perfect weight for his height. He has a normal diet and is in excellent physical condition. Last week, in a match during wrestling practice, he suffered a seizure during which he bit he tongue and eventually lost consciencousness for several minutes. He was taken to the hospital and given brain scans and they found nothing unusual. Two hours later, he felt so well it was as if nothing had even happened. But a few days later, he was hiking a very small local mountain when he suffered a minor seizure that caused him to fall down but lasted only a few seconds. After that he felt fine again. Im taking sulfameth trimethoprim 800-160 for an infection on my face that went into my lynph nodes. After taking only 2 pills my top lip became swollen with a rash on the inside and blisters on the bottom of my tongue. I stopped taking them for 4 days. I took one today because the infection wasnt going away. Now, my tongue feels like needles are going through it for the past 5 hours. It's now going into my gums and lips. Was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 for infection in thumb. Was to take it for 10 days but on 8 day developed an itchy rash - should I continue to take it. I am not allergic to any medications. Can I take benadryl to help? ## No, once you get the itchy rash from this it means that most likely you are allergic to it and things will only get worse if you continue taking it and there is the risk of your developing much more dangerous reactions.
