I was switched from toprol XL 25 mg once a day to lopressor 25 mg 2x aday. The nurse said it was the same because one is extended release ad the other is not ## That is correct, they both contain the active ingredient Metoprolol, but the Toprol XL is a controlled release formulation and the Lopressor is a regular release one. Where you told why the switch was made? ## No. When I phoned in for a prescription, another Dr ordered it for me; when I noticed the change my physician said just go ahead and use it because they are the same. I would prefer the once a day for convenience but she said not to waste the meds. Thanks for responding. Appreciate it.

Would like to know the manufacturer's name and place of origin. In other words, is it manufactured in the U.S. ## Since it is a generic, there are several manufacturers, so I can't answer your question without more information. Does the bottle list a manufacturer? Or, are there any markings on the tablets in question? If you can post back with this information, then I can discover who the manufacturer is and where they are located.

I am preparing to go on a cruise. Has anyone taken Toprol XL with Dramamine or other anti-dizziness drugs...OTC or otherwise? There are numerous drugs and foods that seem to interact adversely with Toprol XL. Thanks for your reply. ## I've been on Toprol XL 50mg for several years. I've been on Toprol XL 50mg for a little over one year. Since then I have gained 20lbs and have notice an overall increase in my appetite. Has anyone else had this reaction? ## ABSOLUTELY! I’ve been on Toprol XL for years. I got a blue letter in the mail months ago. Medicare switched me to another part d plan. I didn’t get the letter until two months after they said they sent it to me. I thought I was getting junk mail from WellCare in Florida, so I ignored it. Little did I know that they had enrolled me into that plan without my knowledge. WellCare denied my exception for Toprol XL. I’m appealing the decision. They’ve had me on the phone for hours and lied to me. Silvercript (my former insurance) also lied to me. my dr gave me metoprolol er (time release) today. 25mg to help lower my heart rate and blood pressure. I took it and about 3 hrs later stared feeling so strange. my face got real hot and it feels like there pressure in my head. I read that the generic brand could be different than the name brand toprol xl and that it could spike blood pressure. Does Toprol XL 50 MG produce insomnia for anyone? I am taking it at night and HCT(Diovan) 160/12.5MG in the morning. I have been taking Toprol XL for 4 years. Can I replace it with Diovan? ## I am 53 and take 100mg Toprol Xl each morning. I exercise at least 40 minutes 5 days per week (cardio) at the lunch hour. So I have just recently moved from the USA to Italy and I take Toprol XL 25 mg. It works great at lowering my heart rate. However I have gone from pharmacy to pharmacy and have been unable to locate it. All they have here is something called (Metropolol Hexal) and it doesn't work hardly at all, my HR is constantly in the 90-100's and I am taking the same dose. Is there any other medication I can take so this doesn't happen? Or are there certain pharmacies in Italy that DO carry Toprol XL? Thanks.

I've been getting the brand name AstraZeneca for years. Today pharmacist told me they don't make it anymore. I think he is mistaken. He still charged me more for it, but it was a different brand than AstraZeneca. Anyone have info?
