ophthalmic ## i would like to know what this ointment is used for? ## This is an antibiotic and steroid that is commonly used to treat pain, and swelling, as well as immune problems. Opcon A eye drops work well for a short time. I haven't found any eye drops to replace Visine L.R. that have the lasting effects. Hope this helps! ## If you only need them occasionally, use what I use —although it's Rx Only (in practice, a local doc visits a local pharmacy and we buy it OTC or if we have Rx coverage, bring a script) —TOBRADEX (generic available: TOBRAMYCIN and DEXAMETHASONE. Not for daily use. Very effective and the generic is expensive; I use my RX coverage to pay for 3 x 5mL and noted that the retail would be close to $300, ad that;s for the Sandoz generic.
